I could not find any markers markings but I am guessing from other items in the house of this estate sale it is Danish and probably from the 60's or 70’s. It is of smaller proportions making it ideal for a smaller room. The approx. measurements are: 3’ 6½” tall/ 2’ 11” across the front and is 1’ 5¼” wide. 1890-1920 ART NOUVEAU DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY + BENCH This turn-of-the-century mahogany desk has been finished in a durable satin oil-base paint to bring a contemporary feel to a classic antique style. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This desk makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door. Only on the outside. it does not go through, nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 90+ year old antique. As you will see from the image above(as in real life) It is not noticeable until you are specifically looking for it, or until your face is right up to it. As in the image below. The height of this desk is 50.5 inches. But don't worry about transporting it. It breaks down into ... moretwo sections. The top section sits down snuggly into the bottom section. So there is no risk of it tipping off. It needs to be lifted straight up out of the base to disassemble it. The depth of the desk is 15 inches. So this could even be used in a smaller room, giving you the advantage of an all-inclusive secretary without the large footprint. The width is 31 inches. This is a perfect size! You can see from the back how the top section sits down into the base with a protective moulding around the front and sides. Even with the bench. The footprint of this desk is minimal. and how gorgeous is its profile? And. By the way, the moldings and applied carvings are all intact throughout. Here's a picture with the unit broken down. When you look at the base. You can see how deep the moulding is that wraps tightly around the upper section, but you can't see the groove inside the moulding that drops the upper section even further down into the base. Here is a fantastic original circa late 1700's English solid oak desk with gorgeous figured mahogany. The mahogany may have been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when mahogany became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. The interior is solid oak.some beautiful quartersawn and this slant front will lock with a replaced lock and key. Hinges are heavy iron and original. The top drawer is a false drawer and then the 2 over 3 drawers are all graduated. All of the drawers inside and out are hand dovetailed as shown. Antique writing desk secretary 1800's Please read provenance.
This rare and ornately beautiful writing desk was discovered at the estate sale of the heirs of Mrs. Theodore Peterson of Boston. The desk came with a handwritten history of the desk. Said to have been bought by Mrs Peterson in England sometime in the 1800's. Mrs. Peterson is said to be the mother of civil war officer Homer Black's wife. Eugenie Peterson. Mrs. Peterson died in Harrisburg in 1924 according to the timeline document. The estate sale conductors claimed that the desk had hand written letters from civil war officer Black in it but they were removed by the family to be kept in the family. I have done no personal research to support the letter's claim and thus do not guarantee the claim of the letter or the estate sale conductor's story but I will include the letter that came with it. The condition is amazing considering ... moreits age. The drawer pulls are missing. The leather top is worn out and separated at the seam, the top handle is missing, there is some damage where the pull or possibly a latch was originally, there is missing veneer on the right side of the top. See pics. Despite all this, the dovetail joints are tight, the hinges are set in place and the only odor it emits is that of wood. No smoke or mildew, just good old wood smell. Offered is a wonderful old secretary top or wall mount cabinet from an estate. Stripped. Ready to be sanded and refinished. Held together with great old hand wrought square nails. Circa late 1800s. Wood looks to be chestnut or walnut. Part of backer missing, 1 upright dividier has some damage, initials punched into inside of drop front, 1 hole in backer on top shelf. Top a bit loose, some moisture stains to be sanded out, some wood splitting on top trim lots of wear and tear, or as I prefer, character. It has two scrolls for paper, a fold down desk, mail/letter slots and a drawer. It measures 40 1/2" high, 19 1/2" to the bottom of the desk and 20 1/4" wide. Some of the wood is peeling in the back and it looks as the screws for the hinges for the desk have been replaces, both of these imperfections are pictured. French Louis XVI Antique Satin Wood Marquetry Writing Secretary Desk Chest Table This is a magnificent Louis XVI style antique Secretary Desk leather top writing desk with satin wood burl wood insets and superb marquetry and parquetry bordering on satin wood grained fronts and sides with finely engraved brass mounts. Dolphin feet, and drawer pulls. It measures about 32 inches(81.28 cm) tall by 25.2 inches(64 cm) wide by 16 inches(40.64 cm) deep. It weighs over 41 pounds(18.6 Kg) by itself. Without any packing materials. It features two pull out drawers with wavy. Curved fronts, plus a slide out pull out leather topped writing desk platform that also can be taken completely out. The drawers are all dove tailed joined indicating earlier era construction and show aged wood inside. There is magnificent marquetry pinstripe bordering very finely ... moreinset wood pieces that are only found on the more exceptionally crafted pieces. Here's what I stated about this gorgeous cabinet's condition: One wood split crack and chip of inlaid veneer marquetry on front middle of bottom drawer. The drawers have some resistance when pulling out. But the can be pulled out completely and fairly easily, but just have some snug fit little tug drag to them, as does the slide out writing desk platform, but not at all a problem and just not real easy and loose pulling out. Some minor surfaces scratches, but other than these remarkably well preserved and beautiful condition dovetail joined antique writing desk cabinet. Truly an incredibly beautiful and stand out showcase piece that is hard to find one as remarkably crafted as this. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone!
