It is fully functional and very sturdy! I noticed that one of the screws is missing from the top portion of the writing desk so the top is a tiny bit loose with a slight wiggle. There are some pen marks and paint marks on the desk- you know how kids are! There is a 4 in split in the wood on the top writing desk. There are scuffs and scratches from use/storage. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. It is 36" wide and 24" deep at the largest points. This piece is listed for'local pickup only' We encourage buyers to stop by our 11.000 square foot shop to preview this amazing piece in person. The original owner(1866-1936) was wheelchair-bound. So this desk was well used and loved. It has remained in the same family ever since. The box measures 15" wide, 10½" deep, and 5½" tall(I believe this is large for a writing box of this age) You must look at the photographs to appreciate the beauty of this piece! The top is adorn with delicate designs. Separated by thin strips of metal. Gold gilding, mother-of-pearl, and various shades of inlaid wood make up the floral/vine-like center and the borders around it. Even the ... moretop's edges feature a gold& mother-of-pearl star design. There is a diamond-shaped brass plate around the key hole; the original key is included and still works to lock& unlock the box! There is also an inlaid brass notch on the box's top to lift the lid with ease. Amazing craftsmanship! The box has a hinged lid and opens fully to reveal a rich purple velvet-covered inclined surface. The purple is now faded around the edges with age(as you can see in the photos) There are five cubbyholes. One of which is rectangular(with a lid) to accommodate pens/pencils; and four square cubbies perfectly sized for the two ink bottles(included, although one is missing the cap) as well as other writing supplies. Other features include a spacious storage area in the base for paper or small books This is opened by the pull of a green ribbon(now faded) And last(but not least) is a hard writing surface that flips down from the lid. NO RESERVE… This auction is for an extremely nice old. 1913 child's Home Schooling Desk. It could be called the original Lap Top. This one is pretty much like new inside and likely was either not used much, or maybe not at all. As you can see in my photos it folds up closed neatly so it can be tucked away. My closed up photo has the wood on the exterior, but I think the chalk board goes on the outside. When it is closed up it measures approx. 22 inches long, 17 inches wide, and about a bit under 3 inches thickThe exterior wood is in very nice condition with no damage. There is a Lewis E. Meyers& Co. name in the upper left corner. On the bottom of the wood case is a map of the United States, which does show a lot of age, likely from the slide wear, plus age darkening. The top opens up and swings completely around so you can use the ... morechalk board and access the storage areas. I haven't quite figured out how exactly the top adjusts in different working positions. The schooling instructions and examples are on a roll that can be rolled out to expose whatever the learning projects. I could only show some of the different picture examples on the roll, because of limited photos allows on my auction. The very first one on the roll is dusty because that is the one exposed all these years. There is also one little pencil size hole in the lower right corner on this one. Description You are considering a wonderful antique ladies sterling silver desk set made in the Normandie area of France. I could not fine a reference to the maker. Lavolley-Colani on the Internet, but did find reference to the place, Falaise, in the Normandy area of France. This fits because I am selling this for my friend who purchased it in Paris at a street market. The set has four pieces: Letter opener with silver handle and"ox bone" or ivory blade, fountain pen with possible gold tip(or possibly brass) desk knife, and wax stamp(not engraved) I see several marks on these pieces, but the only one I can identify is the Minerva profile on the letter opener which allows me to say that this is sterling, at least 925 but possibly 800. There are other marks, but I can not determine what they are except that right at the base of the ... moregolden pen tip where it joins the silver are the letters"C S M" The box is fitted for these pieces with suede leather bottom and silk top, with padding and metal hinges. The only piece with evidence of wear is the desk knife which shows some use wear on the very tip. Otherwise, the pieces appear to be unused but have been previously polished. The floral design with open areas was obviously intended for the engraving of a monogram. Hinge on box is a little loose and fabric at hinge fold is frayed. Otherwise, please evaluate the photos to estimate the worth. Such a gorgeous antique set! Please let my photos as well as my written description serve as your guides when making your buying decision. ANTIQUE HANDEL LILY DESK LAMP; RARE YELLOW GREEN SLAG GLASS; DUFFNER ERA
For sale is a beautiful documented Handel lily lamp as shown in pictures 1-12. This lamp is relatively rare in that its glass color is not Handel's standard dark green. Rather. It is a lighter striated yellow green. Also the base metal and the metal holding the petals has a lighter golden brown patina that is more in keeping with the muted colors of the glass. The true patina color is shown in natural sun light in photo 3. The true color of the glass is shown in natural light in photos 2& 3. Although the base and shade are unsigned. This lighter colored variation of Handel's lily lamp is pictured(documented) in"The Handel Lamp Book" by Hibel. Hibel& Fontaine at page 30 at the top right. The lily pad base of the lamps were made of cast iron and thus much more difficult to emboss with the Handel mark than the softer ... morepot metal table lamps. Hence, most of these lily pad bottoms had weak lettering(a couple of letters) to no impressions at all. The lamp has been rewired with a period appropriate brown cloth cord that has been spliced at the bottom. See photos 9& 10. The lamp has its original bakelight plug. photo 8) The socket has a GE paddle. Photo 12. The socket works perfectly. The socket shell is spot welded closed at two spots. You can see one of them in photo 2. The shade is 4 inches long from back to front tip(i.e. The front to back diameter) The shade's side to side diameter is 4 1/2 inches wide. The shades front opening is 2 1/4 inches in diameter. It takes one of the narrow pointed bulbs. Unfortunately. The lamp has one panel of glass missing. Fortunately, it is in the least conspicuous spot. The underside. The framing for the petal is still intact. The missing piece can only be noticed by viewing the lamp from the back side(photo 11) or from the underside(photo 12) Because of Handel's overlapping petal pattern, the loss is barely noticable. Antique Tiffany Studios Abalone Desk Set
This is a beautiful Desk set made by Tiffany Studios New York. It belonged to my great grandparents. Unfortunately. Due to unforseen circumstances, I am having to sell it. There are 11 pieces in this set. They all are stamped Tiffany Studios New York with the corresponding model number on the bottom of each piece. They are bronze with an all over brass gilt finish. Each piece has beautiful, ornate disks of abalone shell which was highly popular during the production of these items. This pattern was produced from 1910 through 1917. The Abalone pattern is reminiscent of the vine in the niche of Tiffany's 1893 Byzantine Chapel. One piece(paper knife) is the Zodiac Pattern which was the most popular cast Tiffany Studios pattern and it's production spanned 30 years. The picture frame is a reproduction and was added to the set by my parents ... morein the 1970's. It is a very nice match to the set. Antique Side by Side Desk Curio Early 1900's Good Cond.Carvings Beveled Mirror
Early 1900's Combination Curio Antique Peice. Side by Side. Used by some through the Depression. Well-cared for over the years. In near mint condition. Was never restored, in original condition. Bowed glass on curio may have been replaced. Not an expert. But I beleive, though not for certain, this to be of Mahogany Wood. This peice is NOT wobbly. It is sturdy. Four Legs are wood- no cracks. All solid. Overall, in very fine condition. Only flaw: missing handle on curio door. But, there is an easy fix. Hardware, drawer pulls are delicate and pretty for sure. Carvings are detailed, unique in thier own rite, and pretty. Overall the carving theme seems to be of hour glass or shell, in my opinion. Highly carved, refined. Overall, the peice is simply elegant. It is darker wood. Many of this style of antique is oak or other, but few are this ... moregrain and this color. Top shelf over desk. Mirror is beveled. All drawers pull great. Eschucheons(key holes) all in place- though I do not have the key for locking. Inside desk is neat with pull out drawer and some shelving. Hinges on desk are Secure! Fine to hold a lap top. Curio neat to store those show-off collectibles. Four shelves. The shelves can be adjusted for heigth, however, currently, the top shelf is the longest. Measurements: 5'4" tall(final height at carving over beveled mirror) 3'1" wide, and exactly one foot deep, would be 11" from wall, but bowed glass makes it exactly a foot. Nice functional peice- and, a peice of history. Somewhat petite, not obtrusive size out from wall. THIS IS FOR LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY. This is a rare antique cachepot. Marked W. Guerin Limoges France. Dating ca. 1900-1932. The piece is entirely and skillfully hand painted with two different bouquets of crisantemums and green foliage on a pastel background. The border. The handles and the feet are heavily decorated with gold. The piece is 6 3/4" high. 5 1/2" wide with handles, by 2 3/4" The small size of the cachepot makes it perfect for letters and cards on a desk. It also looks great with flowers. The condition of the piece is close to perfection with no damage. The only fault I can see is some wear to the gold of the feet. The rest of the gold looks great and the paint work is amazing. Antique Oak Chautaugua Industrial Art Desk with Matching Bench School Learning
Antique oak Lewis and Myers school desk/learning center. Dated 1923 and manufactured in Valparaiso. Indiana. I also have the accompanying seat that completes this set. The top of the desk features an American Resources Map with area, population, mining, and manufacturing. From what I can tell the paper is cloth, somewhat distressed with a few minor stains. Top measures 21 1/2"X 17 1/4" Unopened height is 26 1/2" tall and stands on 2 adjustable legs that are adjusted by thumb screws. The desk also features a slide out drawer, desk top also slides rear-ward to reveal yet another desk top. The first top with map and sliding top is removable or locked in place with a sliding pin to lock in place. The Oak bench measures 15 1/4" in length by 7 1/2" in width, and is also adjustable in height styled exactly like the desk ... morewith thumb screw type adjustment. In the full up position it measures 14" full down position is approx. 10" in height. When the top is opened it reveals operating instructions for each child, shelf type compartments on both sides and a compartment in the center for writing materials I would guess. Atop the opened shelf area, or what would be the underside of the sliding desk top is cloth paper with the name"The Chautaugua Industrial Art Desk" a plan to promote the culture of work and play among children in the home" with a scenic lake front and boats in the backround. This cloth paper has various lessons which are printed on rollers. The first illustration is line drawings, various shapes and sizes.It is copyrighted 1913 by the Powers and Myers Co. The second illustration is of various animals, shadow style, blocks and circles, also shadow style. The third is a short illustration of the 3 bears story, an apple, hen on nest, pearl necklace, basket a woven rug and the procedure to complete. So small that it is difficult to photograph(last photo) I really do not know what to call the style, but I do know this is a quality item. Note inner most likely brass trim surrounded by what is presumably satin. While the item looks like it might include inlay decoration, the decorative work is instead hand carving. This is a very unique. Antique-1930's? I think, but not for sure of the exact age) clock. It is a tape measure style table/desk clock. This is from an estate that I purchased another from. I purchased 2. So, this is the last one because the other sold in a past auction. These were the first one's I had ever come across. I uploaded several pictures hoping you can tell more about it and the condition. It looks to be a metal material with a gray-ish/green?and yellow g old color/tone trim in places. I'm not sure how to set it or how it works. When I went to wind it on the bottom. It has been wound too tight and would not wind. I am not sure how to repair clocks but maybe someone will know. It does show some used in condition and wear including color wear and surface wear. There are scratches, and some discolorations including a small ... moresurface rusty color place on the top that you will hopefully see in a few of the photos. And, of course it shows age related wear. On the bottom, which I also took a picture of, imprinted/engraved is'MADE IN U.S.A. PAT. NO. D-95,184' From top to bottom, excluding the brass color knob on the top in the middle, it displays approximately 2 1/2 inches tall, add about 1/2 an inch if including the metal knob. Pair Of Reverse Painted Antique 1920's ALADDIN Bankers Piano Desk Lamp
Here is a pair of antique Aladd in"The Wonderful Lamp" r everse p ainted 1920's Bankers Piano Desk Lamps. Being sold as a pair. I will not sell them separately. Solid cast metal bases. The 2 have exactly the same base. Marked Aladdin Muncie IN underneath. The Wonderful Lamp Stickers are still on as well. The taller lamp had no shade when I bought it. And then finally a reverse painted one came a long that actually kind of goes with. Or flows with the original old shade on the smaller lamp. The taller one's shade is more detail ed though. It does have a minor chip on the left corner. And a very small fleabite chip on the right front corner, they are nothing to freak out about though, I am OCD when it comes to damaged ligh ting in my home. And they dont bother me. But, I do intend to take the lamp to The Art Glass studio here ... morein town, to get the owner to at least acid etch the tin y spots. So it will not be as noticeable. Once etched. The spot will blend in much better. H e may have even better ideas. He has worked with glass for over 50 years now. Im recovering from the worst flu of my life, and havent been able to get down there yet. But I will this week. The smaller lamps shade has no damage. Fleabites. Nor chips, its in great sha pe. I rewired both for safety so they are good to go for another 8 0 years. I re-wired the shorter one with a round bakelite plug and correct twisted cloth cord. Then I ran out of that wire, so the taller one has modern brown wiring. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking here. Take a close look. Shade s ize on tall lamp is almost 9" W by 4" tall and 6" deep. Over all the lamp is 1 8" tall and about 10" wide. Shorter lamp's shade is 9" wide by 3.25 tall and 4" deep. Over all it stand 10" if you were to point the shade straight up. Which would look ridiculous. In normal position the lamp is about 7.5 inches high. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. A mythical English folklore representation of nature. The casting is superbly detailed and executed. And the clever pivot mechanism that operates the clapper is wonderful. There is a maker's mark. Some time ago the legs were damaged and the feet were sawed off, and each leg now shows signs of that damage in the form of significant cracks and chips; nevertheless the piece remains sturdy. It has a very unique design with an upside down floral ball look. An arched stem coming out of the leaf base. It has a Paulding socket. The ball shade has a free form bottom rim. We see one crack on one of the panes of the curved glass, one pane looks to have been replaced from when it was first made. We did not find any makers marks anywhere on this. It measures approx. 13 1/4" high to the top of the acorn/flame finial and 10" across. Truly a stunning piece. There are a lot of scratches to the outside of the glass panes, but still oh so gorgeous. Early 1900's Emeralite 8734"G" Double-Knuckle Desk Lamp. Made by the H.G. McFaddin Company around 1917. Scarce High Polish finish model. almost 100 percent of the original finish is remaining. All brass construction with iron base weight. Original cloth covered wiring and Bakelite electrical plug. All adjusting screws move freely and lamp adjusts easily. Patent date of 7-10-17 on top adjustment wing nut. Marked“EMERALITE 8734-G” on underside of base. As well as on green enameled manufacturer's plate on the frame. No cracks in the green cased glass shade or in the brass lamp frame/ base. Shade measures 8 5/8 inches X 5 inches. Base measures 6 ¾ inches X 6 ¾ inches. Lamp is approximately 13 ¼ inches tall.
