The desk has a large amount of surface scratches on it, particularly ... moreon the top surface. I am unsure of its actual age. I would guess that it dates to the 1940’s or possibly a bit earlier. It has the original hardware on the drawers although some of the drawer pulls are missing parts of their swivel handles. The desk drawers pull in and out smoothly and have dovetail joints. There are some nice carved details to the front of the desk, but it will most certainly need to be refinished as there are a lot of scratches on it, and some stains inside the drawers as well. The desk is 30” tall, with the space for the chair being 21” high, and 17.5” wide. The desk is 48" long, and 18" wide front to back at most.

There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described. C.1890 This is an utterly stunning piece of antique Meiji period Japanese furniture– it is a scholars tansu cabinet. Which comes in three pieces. There are two matching tansu cabinets, used for storing paper, ink, and other sundries, and a top that fits over both cabinets. This top can be taken off to slot in place between the cabinets, forming a small desk for use while travelling. It is entirely covered in marquetry work of the most amazing quality and design. There are a large number of exotic woods used in the marquetry– Katsura. Persimmon, and Cedar for example- which is continued on the inside of the cabinets on the drawer fronts; there are also ornate brass ... moremetal work hinges, clasps and handles. Although antique Japanese Tansus can be found for sale. The chair seat swivels and the chair rolls around on casters. 16" wide x 19" deep x 35-1/2" high overall with a 19" seat height as you see it in the pictures. Looking underneath I can see that you can lower it down about 1-1/2" and you have about 6" total screw extending down below the spinning disk. You should be able to raise it 2 or 3 inches anyway. Seat height would then range between about 17-1/2 and maybe 22" You merely turn the disk to change the seat height. I lowered the seat to the minimum for shipment. The seat back has a black material tacked into place on the sides. I think it's old leather. But for all I know, it could be something else. Please look at the pictures and judge for yourself. Beautiful. I found a few issues which I think are not very noticable. There was a crack in the top of the upright back support timber that I had to glue(the crack extending below the slot was not glued) One nut securing that support was replaced with a more modern one at some point, there is a split in the wood surface on the back of the

Old desk set. Made from horn, with a wood base. Horn pieces include pen rests, pen holder, and a pipe holder. Round opening in wood base has a glass ink well for a dip pen. Antique Jansen Louis XVI Ebonized Mahogany Display Desk This maginificent display table/bureauplat is charmingly shabby. Though unsigned. It is almost certainly by Maison Jansen. The style, the quality of workmanship, the materials, are clearly of the highest quality. Please see picture number 6 for a close up of the underlying wood grain, which appears to be mahogany(though walnut is not an impossibility) The framed glass top. Reveals 2 separators with gilded scrolling, providing areas for 3 locked drawers. The locks are brand new and not original. This piece would make a jewelry or fine fashion arts display case of pure perfection for any shop featuring an upscale shabby chic style. A nearly identical piece is shown in the June 2013 New York Times Style Magazine on pages 86-87 STYLE: The ebonized mahogany and carved and gilt molding identify ... morethis piece as an interpretation of neoclassical Louis XVI style favored by Maison Jansen and European early 20th century royalty and the Kennedy White House. The republic style legs place it in the 1920-30's era. WORKMANSHIP: The intricate carving. Gilded moldings, and ebonizing are of days-gone-by and simply unavailable in today's market. Though the legs appear somewhat fragile supporting the weight of the overall table, they are solidly attached with heavy metal flanges and grommets. The drawers show the dovetail joints(pictures 9 and 10) All joining of the piece are solid and exhibit NO separation. MATERIALS: Though wood identification is difficult with painted furniture. There are enough small areas with worn paint to show the underlying wood. This is unquestionably a very hard wood, and given the reputation and standards of Maison Jansen, this is almost certainly mahogany. The desk is 30.25" wide, 37" high, and 14.5" deep(from drawer) When opened, the writing surface is 27.5" from the floor. It features original brass hardware, a single pull-out drawer beneath the desk, and six compartments inside to store letter, bills, etc. I estimate the age of this piece to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition as indicated in the Condition description. There are some light scratches and cup marks as pictured. This is a gorgeous Antique English Washed Pine Desk. I purchased it in Bernardsville. NJ at an English Pine Furniture Shop. The owner imported antique pine furniture from England. It is absolutely beautiful and well made(see phote of drawer dovetail) I paid around $975 for the desk. I am offering is at a much lower price for due to 2 issues: 1) drawer hardware is missing the pull part(see last photo. and the desktop has been replaced. 2) the desktop has been replaced. When moving years back, my husband left the top behind, so he made a replacement- it is now just a piece of wood cut to size. The original Atlas sticker is missing and based on the type of paint scheme. Base stamp and design would suggest a late 1950's model as does the cast iron base stamped with a simply 1. This stand is in excellent condition considering it's use and age. The original paint is in very nice condition as seen in pics provided. Total length is 12 inches high x 6 inches wide.
