Published in Edinboro& London by W. A.K. Johnston. 1883. A facsimile copy of the title page will also be included for authenticity. It was drawn by Alexander Keith Johnston(1804-71) who formed the business with his brother William Johnston. They became the most respected Scottish cartographers and map publishers of the19th century, producing the most detailed and accurate English language maps of the period, perhaps only rivaled in detail by the contemporary German August Petermann, who published for Stieler. Keith Johnston's name appears in the title area and the publishing details are in the bottom center margin. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed, being sold as shown in the main pic. Overall, a beautiful rare map with nice color that would frame up nicely. Size: The map image measures approximately 12 1/2 by 16 1/2 inches(32x42cm) on a 14 1/2 by 18" 37x46cm) page with a margin all around for framing as seen in the pic. Condition: The map is in Good condition with overall light tonal aging and a centerfold as issued. There is some darkening along the edges and some light foxing. See the pics for more on condition. This is an original engraved antique 1867 physical map of the World showing the Chart of the Ocean Currents No. 05 published by Mitchell drawned and engraved by J.M. Atwood. Philadelphia. It was removed from the geography book being very careful to cause little damage. It was difficult due to the very poor condition of the book when found recently.It has two colors added to the engraving Purple and yellow. Very striking and not too much. Glasgow and Edinburgh, and is one of a number of similar map pages I'll be offering this week. This world map features the Ocean Currents of the world. And is fully titled: General Chart of the World on Mercators Projection Showing the Courses of the Chief Ocean Currents by J G Bartholomew FRGS' it includes currents and rates of flow. The colours and fine detail are clear and strong. And the maps are signed at the bottom by Wm Jno Turner FRGS(William John, Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society) The maps are professionally joined at the centre, with perfect matching to the front.
