There are creases on the corners, splitting at the ends of the centerfold and some darkening and handling smudges, see the pics for more on condition. Overall it does have a strong impression with nice original color and a quality patina that looks much better on the actual map, the darkening is slightly accentuated in the pics. The map is very detailed and shows the continents of North& South America as they were during the 1840's. The map also features the interesting depiction of the State of Texas as an Independent Republic, and California being a part of Mexico. Towns and borders are shown in detail throughout the map. The The map is a strongly defined steel engraving with hand colored outlines. It is printed on medium thick paper, featuring a plate mark. The engraver was J& C Walker and was published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge(SDUK. The paper size is approximately 16 inches by 13-1/2 inches with at least a 1-1/2 inch margin on all four edges. Condition is very good, the map is uniformly age toned with no foxing, ... moretears or holes. Light finger smudge marks occur mainly in the margins, also the map has been rolled for so long that it needs to be flattened out.
