Up for auction is a Vintage Antique ENAMELWARE CHILD'S CHAMBER POT ~ ~ Circa 1930s-40s ~ Maker mark appears to be"AM or MA" the outside is a robbins egg blue with a black stripe around the rim and inside is off white. There is a small chip inside the size of a pinhead. See pictures. This pot is in beautiful condition. ~ This potty was probably used in a wooden potty chair. Vintage Enamelware Chamber Pot and Lid Black and White
The best I can tell. And remember from what my grandparents told me, this is a chamber pot. It appears to be enamelware. It is white with black trim. The pot is approx 9" deep and the opening is approx 8 1/2" but the pot flares out more than that. The lid is 10 1/2" in diameter. There are chips, look at the pictures for those. Offered is a great vintage enamelware child's potty or chamber pot in dark blue with a white interior made in Poland in great condition for a piece of vintage enamelware. There is no missing enamel; there are some scratches on the bottom and some minor rough spots along the outside upper edge. There is a small pea size blemish on the outside that shows up as a lighter blue which is a manufacturing defect. The bottom is marked in white with a teapot MADE IN POLAND 18;and this potty measures 7" in diameter at the top. 4" in diameter at the bottom, and 3-3/4" tall. It has a very cute bear decal on one side. I have owned this piece for at least 25 years. I don't see any chips. However there are a few places under the rim where the enamel is thinner then the rest(occurred durint the manufacturing process) There are some barely visible scuff marks as is common with enamelware. Vintage Enamelware Chamber Pot White w/Red Rim & Handle + Lid + Original Label
Use this as a decorator piece in your modern bathroom! Before indoor bathrooms were popular. These chamber pots were used in every bedroom/household. People used these pots so that they wouldn't have to make a trip out to the outhouse in the cold, dark night. In the morning these full pots were carried out and dumped in the outhouse. Judging by the size. This one was probably used by youngsters between the ages of 5–12. This one is unique because it has a lid and the original manufacturer's label on the side. It reads. I don't think plastic, as we know it today, was widely used during this time period but I understand that Bakelite was used, however, I can't guarantee this. There is also a ripped price tag on the side of the pot which I cannot read. SIZES: Pot only—7 1/2" tall x 9 3/4" diameter top. Total height with handle straight up is 13" Lid—10 1/8" diameter x 2" height CONDITION: There are several dents. Chips and scratches on the lid and pot. There are also several rust spots on the pot which someone tried to cover with a clear varnish or acrylic to stop the erosion, I suppose. The repair work is difficult to see in the photos.
