IT IS IN VERY NICE SHAPE AND THE COLORS ARE EXTREMELY BRIGHT AND THE GLAZE IS SHINY. THE POT IS 8 7/8 INCHES IN DIAMETER FROM THE OUTSIDE EDGES OF THE TOP LIP AND 5 1/8 INCHES TALL. THERE IS A MAKERS STAMP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE POT WHICH DATES THIS PIECE TO 1891. MARKINGS OF THE LABEL SAY"ORMONDE" OVER A CROWN. UNDER THE CROWN IS A CURVED BANNER WITH"ALFRED MEAKIN LTD" IN IT. ANTIQUE FLOW BLUE CHAMBER POT 1890'S FULLY MARKED PURCHASED IN ENGLAND IN 1968
Up for auction is an antique chamber pot in flow blue made in the 1890's. It was purchased by me in London in an antique store in 1968. The original price tag is still with the pot. I didn't know at the time what I was buying and thought it was some kind of vase. In my travels in England later on I discovered its nature because I stayed in some hotels that had chamber pots under the beds. It was used as a vase for many years. The dimensions are: circumference at the lip; 8.5 inches; circumference at the lower bulge; 9.25 inches; height; 5.5 inches. It is in excellent condition having only small ding on the underside of the bulge. About 3 mm long. It was originally gilded, but most of the gilding has been worn off. A unicorn on the right and a small figure of a lion on the very top. The lettering is too blurred for me to make it out. Gorgeous Flow Blue Antique Irine Brownhills Pottery Salt Bros Chamber Pot #533
I could find no damge. See image for manufactures marks. Approx. 8.75" diameter and 11" to the handle and 5.25" high. Age is somewhere between 1874 to 1896. Brownhills. Between Longport& Tunstall. Brownhills: The packhorse lanes through Brownhills: One of the main pack-horse roads, which left Hanley by Woodisun(Marsh Street) Brook Street(off Marsh Street North) connected with the lane from Newcastle and wound through Cobridge and the lower end of Hot Lane, Burslem, where it branched; one route going approximately via the present Nile Street, Burslem, and the other, a narrow lane behind, and to the west of what is now Waterloo Road, but which was then a portion of the adjacent fields. Passing Cross Hill and in front of the church yard, it ran by Bournes Bank, a steep incline, to Swan Square. From here the road probably traversed ... morethe slope by way of St. John's Square, or through the Market Square, on to Hill Top. From thence it went down the narrow steep passage of the Back Sytch, past the Sytch Water Mill on the Brownhills Hall estate and past the hall, where it would join the road from Newcastle and Longport, into Tunstall and the north. From Burslem, the Mother Town of the Potteries, an important pack-horse road ran from the Market Square, as already mentioned, via Pack-Horse Lane, winding by St. Paul's Church, Dalehall, via Trubshaw Cross, fording the stream at Longbridge(Longport) by the present road past a group of houses called Longbridge Hayes. This Wood& Son chamber pot is in remarkable condition given its age. Mfg'd in England circa 1890 this item is a vintage example of flow blue craftsmanship. The bas relief Trilby pattern is further enhanced by the deep cobalt of the flow blue design and brightly accented by the GOLD decoration. There is no discernable cracking or crazing and the finish and the glaze is bright and shiney. The gold accent around the lip of the pot is a little worn but thats to be expected with something 150 ish years old. This is a gorgeous piece of antique pottery! Use this pot in myriad ways: as a collector and for display; centerpiece; as an indoor planter; or if nature calls. for the purpose intended.
