All four areas have shelves. Including the lower section, which slide out for ease of accessing the pieces. The front panel(door) slides firmly in place, sitting in some grooved areas top and bottom designed to seal the box. The face(door) has a metal handle for lifting it in and out of the box. The iron top handle acts as a secure means of transport(see picture 2) Chabako were used to store and display tea ceremony implements as well as to carry the necessary tea tools to an appropriate venue to perform the tea ceremony. This chabako is made entirely of a durable light weight Japanese kiri wood(paulownia) The sturdy top carrying handle is durable enough to lift this chest even if fully loaded with tea implements. It contains a mizusashi(water vessel) Chawan(tea bowl) Kougou(incense holder) Ochakoboshi(bowl for used tea leaves) Futaoki(lid or ladle rest) Chashaku(tea scoop) Fukusa(silk cloth) And hishaku(bamboo ladle) All pieces pictured are including in this listing. This beautiful round wood Japanese antique clock. Probably dating from between the 1910's and early 30's boasts a richly colored solid wood frame with brass trimmings and a cream colored face that brings out the amazingly stylish retro font of the big black numbers and minute-marking circular border. There is no brand name that I can find but the face says"MADE IN JAPAN" at the bottom, and there is an engraved fish symbol/logo on the inside mechanics. Except from some minor expected chipping of paint on the face and very light wear and tear it appears in excellent condition. I don't have a key to wind it so can't confirm whether it works or not. Antique hand carved Rosewood statue of an old Japanese man. Beneath the man is a Pelican and a little boy. The statue stands 24 inches high. On the bottom it may be signed as there what look like 2 marks. This can be seen in the last picture. There is some wear from age on the Rosewood on the base in front as can be seen in the 2nd picture. On the bottom in back is a small piece of wood missing this can be seen in the 6th and 8th pictures. There is no other damage to the piece. For it's age it is in good condition. Antique Oriental/Japanese Lacquered Shelf With Gilt Decoration
Very decorative oriental shelf. The faces and hands of the figures seem to stand out slightly in relief. The shelf at one time folded flat apparently. Now the shelf part stays in place with a metal pin for support. Please look at pictures. I tried to capture as best as possible. The original two hinges are intact on the fold down part. There is an original old label on back but unable to read. The shelf overall is in good condition, wear marks with crackling of paint as expected. It is still a beautiful shelf! ANTIQUE JAPANESE NATURAL WOOD HIBACHI
A very nice wood hibachi. The Japanese have used this particular style for centuries. However. I do not know how old this piece is. An unusual feature on this example are the two carved details which are exactly opposite one another. The remaining liner is copper but only covers about halfway down the side. The bottom lining is missing. The hibachi is 14 1/2 inches by 121/2 inches by 9 inches and is very heavy. Aside from the missing parts of the liner, the only condition issues are a long crack on one side and a number of small cracks on the rim which are most likely a result of humidity differences between Japan and California where it has resided for 20+ years. None of these cracks are a threat to the structure of the piece.

Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position ... morewith the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. In addition to illustrating in color and discussing in detail 108 distinguished inro and their accompanying netsuke, as well as 18 related miniature objects, it presents highly informative essays on the making of inro, on pearl shell inlays, and, in particular on the materials and techniques of lacquer art. Entire lamp from base to top of hardware pole is 28" to the top of the base is 15" and the base is 9" in diameter. Light sockets are not original and the cord is not new but is in good condition. This lamp has some flaking of the enamels and is missing enamel in four circles that are in the second band of decoration from the top. The gilding is worn off that once covered all the metal areas but I believe that is the case with most of these pieces. Champlevé is an enamelling technique in the decorative arts. Or an object made by that process, in which troughs or cells are carved or cast into the surface of a metal object. And filled with vitreous enamel.
