Original antique chamber pot. The bottom is mark Utah. White pottery and clear glaze with tight overall crackle crazing. At one time it was cold painted over the glaze. This antique ironstone chamber pot was made by Mercer Pottery Co. It is in great condition with no repairs. Cracks, chips or fleabites. It does have crazing inside and out with some discoloration. Antique John Moses Glasgow Pottery Co. Stoneware China White Bed Pan and Urinal Made in Trenton. N.J. USA. Stamped on the bottom of the pan. Is a version of the British Royal Coat of Arms, Stoneware China" and"J.M. Co. This is one of the marks used by the Glasgow Pottery Co. The Glasgow Pottery Co. of Trenton. N.J. was founded in 1863 by John Moses and remained in operation until around 1902. The pan is in good condition with no chips or breaks. The pan has crazing. Some discoloration, some dark spots, and some cracking around the urinal, which appears to be under the glaze. The pan measures approximately 17" long. 11 1/2" wide, and 5" tall. Old primitive style chamber pot with applied handle. This stoneware pottery piece is in great vintage condition and would look lovely on display. It is unsigned and measures about 7" across. Vintage Stoneware Chamber Pot One Vintage Chamber Pot. White Stoneware. Mark on bottom reads: Burleigh Ware Est. 1851. B& L, Ltd. England, Reg. Trade Mark. Measurements: opening of pot is 9 inches in diameter. Handle makes it 11 inches across, foot of pot is 5 inches in diameter, lid of pot is 9 ½ inches in diameter, pot and lid stand 8 inches tall. The lid has a fine crackle glaze. There is one chip in the outer rim the lid. And two smaller nicks in the inner rim of the lid. The pot has a star crack on the inside which shows a small nick on the outside. A small bit of glaze is missing from the outside here. Other than the flaws mentioned here. Long before there were the white‘thrones’ in our houses for those who had to‘GO. the only thing people had were the‘outhouses, but that didn’t help when it was nighttime and no one wanted to‘go’ outside. So they used a pot, called The Chamber Pot, which was called that because it was used in their chamber or bedroom at night, then emptied in the morning, and stowed until needed again the next night. Shown is an antique white stoneware chamber pot that has a lid, oh yes, very necessary at the time, thick walls, and a metal and wooden handle. The pot measures 9 inches wide at the top rim, 10.50 inches at the widest part of the pot, and about 8.75 inches depth. With the lid on, it measures 11.75 inches. The pot has a design around the exterior side but it’s hard to say just what the design is. The lid has gold edging around the rim of the lid and on the lid’s handle. The condition of this vintage piece is good considering the age and usage of this item. These hairline cracks are located around the rim and are approximately 2.50 inches long and appear to go through to the other side. There are three cracks that have been repaired in the top handle of the lid also. Just had to put that lid on fast, I guess. What a conversation piece for your bathroom if you use it to hold toilet paper, magazines, or flowers. Sit it on the floor or on the back of the commode– everyone will have a good laugh realizing how times have changed and will be smiling when they exit the bathroom.
