There seems to be the slightest rub of the lid on the backside shoulder edge and a nick. Perhaps but otherwise, near museum quality to me. The glaze on the top edge of the tankard looks poured on. Image 12 shows the depth of the glaze and crackling depth. Polychromic Hand colored transfer of a stylized water bird resembling a Great Blue Heron wading in flowered wetlands decorating each side of syrup body has great color and is in beautiful condition. Interesting thumb lever appears to be styled or formed as the back of a book and is serrated in a chevron on the thumb side for a sure grip while pouring. Stands 6 1/2" to the top edge of the slim tankard. And 8" to the finial on beautiful conical lid. Handsome slim tankard form with beautiful classic loop handle with great thumbrest. You will not find many of these around in this condition. Stamped"BENNETT'S/ JAN 23. 1873/ PATENT" I would be interested in the patented feature or innovation represented by that patent. This pot is absolutely a one of a kind as it is dedicated in memory of someone. It has wonderful graphics all over it. It is a very rare pot. On the outside of the front it says: In Remembrance of James Hallas Died Feb. 2nd 1874 Then Dear Wife We Pray Rise And Piss Take You That Handle And I This This Pot It Seems To Us Is Sent Some Mirth To Make Is Only Meant Then Let It Be As They Have Said We'll Laugh And Piss And Then To Bed" On the back it says: A Present This Pot It Is A Present Sent Some Mirth To Make Is Only Meant We Hope The Same You'l Not Refuse But Keep It Safe And Oft It Use And When You In It Want To Piss Remember Then Who ... moreSent You This. Pottery Stoneware Chamber Pot Slop Bucket Metal Bale Wooden Handle
This is a vintage pottery or stoneware chamber pot or more accurately slop bucket. It measures. Not including the handle, 9" tall by about 9 1/4" in diameter across the top. This is made of a heavy pottery substance and the unglazed bottom rim looks like a crockery material. It has an overall pattern molded into the body of the bucket but there are the customary flaws as was common in common everyday pieces. There are a couple of stress lines that seem to affect the glaze only on the outside in photo two you can see the worst one. There is also one in the outside bottom and a small one inside. These lines DO NOT CARRY THROUGH to the opposing side of the pottery piece. There are also excess clumps of clay in the design that have been glazed over and small bubbles that have popped in the glaze during the firing process. Please zoom ... morein and look at all the photos closely. It also has some major chips around one handle on the outside"ear" that holds the wire in place, see photo 5. The wire handle is still intact and functioning so it really hasn't created a major problem. The handle is wooden and has been painted black and has lots of wear to the paint from everyday use. The outside rim of the pot also has some of the glaze rubbed off from the wire rubbing against it. It has no other chips, cracks, crazing or stains. Pottery Stoneware Porcelain Chamber Pot with Lid Marked Virginia
This is a vintage pottery. Porcelain or stoneware chamber pot with lid. It measures, not including the lid, 5 1/2" tall by about 8 1/4" in diameter across the top and 10" overall at the longest point including the handle. This is made of a heavy pottery substance and the unglazed bottom rim is white like porcelain material. It has an overall pattern molded around the lower part of the pot of a sort of interlocking scallop. The lid has acanthus leaves around the rim edge and the same interlocking scallop design as the lower part of the pot. The handle is molded to look and feel almost like a bent stick or tree limb. There are some small bubbles that have popped in the glaze during the firing process, see photo 7. There are also visible stilt marks on the inside of the chamber pot from the stilts used in the kiln to keep it off ... morethe bottom of the kiln. There is overall tight crazing. There is one deep cut near the rim. This does not go through to the inside, see photo 6 and a drop of white paint to the upper left of that in the same photo. There is a black touch mark under the clear glaze on the outside of the pot where someone had a smudge on a finger touched it and then put it in the kiln. It is inside the outer handle. It is signed in sepia colored paint"Virginia" on the underside bottom. I date this from the early 1800's to 1899 because of the mark being signed only"VIRGINIA" and could possibly date to the civil war period. Please zoom in and look at all the photos closely. The underside of the lid rim has an excess piece of clay that is glazed over and fired on. See photos 9& 10. Original antique chamber pot. The bottom is mark Utah. White pottery and clear glaze with tight overall crackle crazing. At one time it was cold painted over the glaze. Antique John Moses Glasgow Pottery Co. Stoneware China White Bed Pan and Urinal Made in Trenton. N.J. USA. Stamped on the bottom of the pan. Is a version of the British Royal Coat of Arms, Stoneware China" and"J.M. Co. This is one of the marks used by the Glasgow Pottery Co. The Glasgow Pottery Co. of Trenton. N.J. was founded in 1863 by John Moses and remained in operation until around 1902. The pan is in good condition with no chips or breaks. The pan has crazing. Some discoloration, some dark spots, and some cracking around the urinal, which appears to be under the glaze. The pan measures approximately 17" long. 11 1/2" wide, and 5" tall.
