From the Zulu people, South Africa. The word ukhamba is a Zulu word for a large clay vessel and the term is commonly used by all African cultures. The vessel measures 7 inches in diameter by 5 inches in height(17.7 cm by 12.7 cm) It is in very good condition and dates to the late 20th century. A fabulous collector’s item. Coming from an important mid-West collection of African art, it is guaranteed authentic and would make a fine addition to any collection of Zulu art or African art in general. In Zulu. Ukhamba consists of two words: ukukhama(which means to squeeze out or compress out as in milking a cow) + bamba(to hold in place so as to receive that which is squeezed out) The ukhamba is a vessel, a reservoir, and a protector of that which is valuable and good for physical and spiritual nourishment. It is a central piece in the rite of social fellowship and that rite itself is treated with respect and studied deference. The clay pot is made out of earth, and symbolizes the Eternal Mother and womb from which all emerge and gets buried in order for others to emerge. The clay pot gives shape to its liquid contents and this means the shaping of all human knowledge by a lived life on earth. Ukhamba pots are formed by building up coils of clay and smoothing them down with items such as the back of a spoon or a water-worn rock. The pot is put to one side until it has reached leather-hardness. When incised designs are created using found objects such as maize cobs, sharpened bicycle or umbrella spokes, combs and anything else that will create an attractive pattern. Originally, pots were mostly decorated by attaching lumps called amasumpa(warts) to stop the pot from slipping but today the most intricate designs are to be found, ranging from leaves, houses and shields to complicated geometric patterns. Antique White Stoneware Mercer Pottery Co. Chamber Pot
This antique ironstone chamber pot was made by Mercer Pottery Co. It is in great condition with no repairs. Cracks, chips or fleabites. It does have crazing inside and out with some discoloration. This chamber pot is 5 7/8" tall, 8 1/4" wide across the top, 9" wide at it's widest point and weighs 4 pounds. The pictures you see are those of the actual chamber pot being auctioned.

Rare F. Winkle Red Transferware Slop Bucket Offered here is an amazing. Large 2 piece waste or slop bucket in an all over transferware pattern in red, produced by F. Winkle& Co. in Stoke, England. These were produced between 1890 and 1920. F. Winkle Co. ran Colonial Pottery and produced transferware. This bucket has the original splash bowl that sits on top. The bucket was used for dumping and transport of chamber pots and wash basins. The splash bowl was inverted to keep the waste water from spilling out as it was carried. The center pour hole allowed one to empty the wash basin without also tossing the soap as it was dumped. These are quite rare and to find one like this in such beautiful condition is a true find. Thank you for considering this auction. My mother loved chamber pots. Especially beautiful ones with lids. She used them as décor all around her home. This one is marked Queen EPP& Co. on the bottom. The chamber pot itself is 9 inches wide at the mouth. The base is 6 1/2 inches wide. The bowl is 5 1/4 inches deep. The lid is 9 1/2 inches wide. From the top of the lid to the bottom of the chamber pot the height is 8 1/2 inches tall. The pattern for this pot is called Queens. I think it refers to the shape of the pot. The pot features a beautiful maroon. Or deep red, transfer on it. This type of artwork on dishes or pottery is called transferware. There is one small stain in the pot. This pot has no chip. This is a wonderful antique chamber pot(aka toiletware) made by the E. Palestine Pottery Co. Ohio) in their Marquette pattern. This piece is dated to have been used prior to 1910. It has the E.P.P.Co. marking on the bottom also states"Marquette" Shows wear on the pink bands. But there are no chips or cracks- normal crazing of the glaze due to age. 8.75" diameter(not to handle) x 5.5" tall.

WHITE CHAMBER POT or POTTY by Thompson Pottery 1868 -1920 aka CCTP Co.
This is an antique CHAMBER POT or POTTY from Thompson Pottery. There is an embossed design around the perimeter and it remains solid white. They made some ironstone but I don't know if this is ironstone or semi-granite. The diameter is 9 3/4" x 5 3/4" tall and the handle protrudes less than an inch from the rim. The blue mark on the underside dates it between 1886 and early 1920's. It is in very good condition with one tiny chip on the bottom rim of it's base and there is some crazing due to age. The C.C. Thompson Pottery. Named after Cassius C. Thompson, operated in East Liverpool, Ohio from 1868 until 1938. They changed their logo in the early 1920's and again in the 30's. Like many other potteries in the late 1800s, they produced Rockingham and yellowware and later semi-porcelain dinnerware. Antique handled Ceramic Porcelain Chamber Pot Bowl by the Cook Pottery Company of Trenton. New Jersey as Mellor& Company at their Etruria Works(I believe, 1894-mid 1930's. Very nice- measuring approximately 8& 1/2 inches diameter x 5& 1/8 inches deep. Pink Band with embossed swirls and gold lines. There are a couple chips on the bowl base. Some age discoloration spotting inside the bowl and light crazing. Pink is bright, gold has some wear. Thank you for looking~ Have a super day!

Large Pretty Antique Chamber Pot WEP Co (West End Pottery) 1893-1938
Antique WEP Co(West End Pottery) Made between 1893 and 1938, chamber pot. White with gold design. Diameter is 8.5 inches at top. Pot height is about 5.5 inches. In excellent condition. No chips or cracks. No noticeable crazing. Small flaw in bottom of pot- can be seen in the photo(picture 4) W.E.P. CO is stamped on bottom. Cleaning out aunt/uncle's old farmhouse and found this.
