1971 Wolliscroft tile Cat in window by Christina Sheppard in V&A museum England
This is a wonderful whimsical piece of art in the form of a dust-pressed earthenware tile with painted and graffito decoration in color glazes depicting a cat and a potted plant on a window sill with hills behind. Spotted drapes. This was designed by Christina Sheppard in 1971, it is signed with an interlaced CS monogram on the front in the bottom right hand corner. The Victoria& Albert Museum have this among their collection of Christina Sheppard tiles.This is a quality piece of work and very decorative. Molded to the base IRONSTONE WOOLLISCROFT ENGLAND. I do know of one available for around $200. it is the only other one I've seen for sale. so starting this at a low& reasonable start price. The Wolliscroft Ironstone business in it's many forms has been around since the mid 1800's but primarily did tiles from 1910-on. ... moreIt appears they are still in business today, the old building I believe was torn down in 2000. Pair of White Ironstone plates- Wolliscroft c.1855
2 ironstone plates. Produced by George Wolliscroft in Staffordshire, England circa 1855. Plates are in good but used condition and show signs of normal wear. No cracks, but there are some flea bites and glazing points from kiln firing and a few spots of discoloration and overall crazing. Plates each measure 9 1/4" in diameter and are 1 1/4" high. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases. I accept returns. Only if the item is not as described. Item must be sent back in the same condition it was sent in and in the same packing materials, i.e. bubble wrap and shipping peanuts, no newspaper.
