There are flat grooved columns on each side with hooks at top, they are connected ... moreto back with a shelf. Applied carving adorns the crest with hook on each side. Instead of the typical lift up lid there is a large drawer at the bottom w. brass handle pull. on the left side behind column is an umbrella holder with original drip pan. The shaped beveled mirror is original, hence there are a few spots and streaks, but doesn't detract from the looks. Total width, including umbrella holder, is 39" depth is 18" height is 80-1/2" We have not refinished this hall tree, the finish appears to be original and is quite good, the piece is structurally strong as well. Curious English Furniture Piece Designed to Store a Chamber Pot. Circa 1900. Mahogany Wood and Porcelain This discreet and smart piece of furniture is a very original piece. Made in England in the early 20th century(circa 1900) It is a small auxiliary article designed to hide and use a porcelain chamber pot, a delicate hand-decorated piece. The piece of furniture is made of beautiful solid mahogany wood and has survived to our days in striking condition, having been fully restored so it can boast the wood’s nice dark reddish color just like when it was originally manufactured. The set is original and very decorative, making up a highly attractive item. The wooden container is rectangular and compact. AUTHENTIC CHAMBER POT JH WEATHERBY & SONS ENGLAND CIRCA 1900 w/o LID
The J.H. Weatherby& Sons(Ltd) A family-run company was founded in Tunstall in 1891 and moved to Hanley the following year. Named'Falcon Pottery' it was the base for their manufacturing and trading of earthenware, and was one of a number of similar potteries in Stoke on-Trent. It first made domestic ware such as printed toilet sets. Trinket sets, vases, teapots, tableware and tableware fancies, jugs, fern pots and lidded chamber pots. Soon after World War I, Weatherby began to supply advertising ware to hotels and caterers and later to hospitals and institutions. In the 1920s and 1930s it experimented with modernist matt glazes and introduced Art Deco-style vases, tableware and fancies. The manufacturer's"DURABILITY" mark on the bottom tells us this particular chamber pot was made after 1892 in Hanley. England. This ... morestamp was used from 1892-1924, but the introduction of indoor toilets gradually replaced chamber pots. There is a hairline crack from the rim about half way down into the vessel. This crack hasn't expanded. And as long as the buyer doesn't plan on using it for its original intended purpose, this shouldn't be a problem. The inside bottom is pitted and the glazing shows its true age. It really is remarkable that items as fragile as this have survived more than 100 years. This pot has no lid. But chamber pot lids seem to be a collectible, and currently there are many available on ebay that might fit this pot. I've taken photos of the handle to show that is has not been repaired or replaced. I displayed this for several years in a guest room that was also decorated in turn of the century Victorian. Guests and friends were intrigued. As few among us can say they have actually seen an authentic chamber pot.

Comes complete with a double handled main pot with a splash guard inner section with a pierced handle and the finishing lid. I have checked for chips,cracks and found none which surprised me.The only thing I can fault is some fading gold flaking which is common.The 3 piece soap dish matches the slop jar. Pot in very good condition, says Dresden China on the bottom of it and YES it comes with the matching lid which apparently is very rare these days. Red Transferware, With A Lake Scene All Around The Pot, And On The Inside Bottom As Well. There Is Some Slight Crazing On The Interior Of The Pot, Which Is Common And Expected In This Antique Pieces And This Actually Adds To The Character Of It. Overall In Mint To Excellent Conditions That Can Be Appreciated In The Pictures, Considered As Part Of The Description.
