Nice lot of four matching cast iron doorknob keyhole backplates for your consideration. these were aquired with locksets where the lock faceplates had the bluebird or swallow pattern on them. I think these might have been the original plates for that design. Although I am not sure since I can not cross reference the manufacture catalog number on the back of each. Which is 5940. Measure 5 3/8 x 1/12 inches. 2 1/4 inch from ctr of knob to ctr of skeleton key barrel. A nice lot of harder to find Early period Victroian Eastlake cast iron backplates. All the plates are in good condition and I suspect that they might even clean up nicely to the original copper Jappanned finish, since they appear to have quite a bit of old varnish that would have protected them over the many years of service. The first and smallest of the plates is a white plate with gilt accents and features a lovely young Victorian woman in the center. It has a unique edge and measures 7 ¾” in diameter. There is no hallmark or makers mark on this piece. The second plate features a gilt edge with a yellow border and some raised accents. It also features a Victorian woman in a red dress in the center. The plate measures 8 ½” in diameter and has a Karlsbad hallmark on the back with“Austria” The third plate is also a Carlsbad plate and on the back it says“Carlsbad China Austria“ The plate has beautiful coloring with a green and gilt border with a Victorian woman in the center with a green dress on. This plate measures 8 ¼” in diameter. The last plate is the largest and also the most detailed. It features a Victorian woman in the center with a maroon ... moreshall. 4 Vintage brass knobs or door handles very heavy solid brass 80's
This is for 4 knobs. The diameter of all of the handles is 38mm. There is another auction straight after this for 6 knobs that are very similar except they have a backplate that is an integral part of the knob. Whereas these 4 have a seperate backplate. I would estimate they are 80's, they are in good condition, they came from my house when I changed everything to chrome, a couple have a bit of paint on that needs to be scraped off the backplate. I am having a really good clear out after refurbishing many flats and houses over the past 20 years! So selling all my old unused handles and knobs. I will also combine postage.
