We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of vintage. Duncan Phyfe styled, Lyre tables or nightstands. The tables feature solid, hardwood construction(mahogany or cherry) and Italian marble tops. The pair has a center front drawer(functional) which is accented with a rose and leaf"swag" There are nice finial details on each lower corner of the table tops. The tables are finished in a reddish brown stain. They are in very good condition with only very minor areas of wear/age. There are no deep scratches or blemishes. Absolutely gorgeous hand carved tables with inlaid tops. They are each 21" high. And 21" wide. The tops lift off the bases, and the bases fold flat for easy shipping. They are intricately carved with a leaf motif. Marked India. They are fairly heavy and sturdy feeling, despite how delicate the carving. No cracks or repairs. A Truly American Company 1873: Widdicomb Brothers& Richards incorporates as Widdicomb Furniture Co. 1887 and 1891: Local histories of Grand Rapids describe Widdicomb as the largest manufacturer of bedroom furniture in the world. 1950: Widdicomb merges with Mueller Furniture Corp. to form Widdicomb-Mueller Corp. 1970: Widdicomb Furniture Co. name is purchased by John Widdicomb Co. Products The first products of the Widdicomb Furniture Co. were spindle beds that were generally shipped to retailers unfinished or“in the white” An 1878 article in The American Cabinet Maker. Upholsterer and Carpet Reporter states that Widdicomb made only“nine styles of work. and specialized in low-priced ash, maple, cherry, and walnut bedsteads.
