Item# 120011RYI24 ... moreThis listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result is breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. Ahlberg, Antique Furniture, New Haven, Conn" The drawer is hand dovetailed at the back, nailed at the front, chamfered on the thick bottom along the sides to rabbet into the drawer frame and is nailed at the back of the drawer with a modern nail. Front drawer, faux rear drawer facing in original finish and first surface. This is a notated piece from a highly respected colleagues' personal collection. Pa. inlaid period Pembroke tables are exceedingly rare. This gentlemen was a Prince of our industry and we will all miss him dearly. The proceeds of the sale of his estate was all donated to various charities. Various museums were bequeathed over 100 of his tall case clock collection. We have some amazing pieces from his estate. Some we will keep to remind us of him and other's, like here, will be offered on this sales platform. Everything is original on this Pembroke table right down to the brasses. The original finish has some blemishes on it but we make no apology or excuses for it. We could clean the surface and rub this out but that would be entirely your decision. Ours is not to touch it. PERIOD TIGER MAPLE PEMBROKE TABLE 1800's
This item is a wonderful period tiger maple pembroke table in the Sheraton style. I believe it was most likely made in the early to mid 1800's. The table is all tiger maple as far as I can tell and stands 26 1/2 inches tall. The top of the table measures 19 3/8ths. inch wide and 20 Inch deep with the leaves down. With the leaves extended it measures about 34" wide. The table top is cracked. Please see the photos for more details. The bottom of the drawer is hand chamfered. I believe the hinges may have been replaced. Please see the photos for details as I am not a furniture expert. I have not cleaned or altered the table in any way. It is exactly as I found it here in St. Petersburg Florida at a private home. I believe this should be easy to ship and will work with the buyer in whatever way possible. With our highest compliments we are thrilled to offer you this remarkable Circa 1770 Colchester, Connecticut walnut Hepplewhite Pembroke table with a shaped cross X stretcher& molded top and legs in its first finish. We obtained this piece from a party who had spent a considerable sum on having a coat of paint applied in the very early 20th Century removed without gouging the table or disturbing its original finish. This process is truly a time consuming art form and something we would ... moretake on with great trepidation. What this party lacked was an expert antique furniture woodworker. A asset that we are truly blessed in having. Sometime in the 19th Century, after this treasure was pulled out of a Colonial home or a Barn, the hand cut Butterfly fasteners that seam the top boards together fell out from shrinkage. This caused a seperation in the top planks which was addressed by someone inserting 18th Century screws through the top to fasten the boards down but failed to close the seperation correctly. We purchased this table several months ago and have been like expecting parents waiting for our woodworker find ample time to perform the museum grade restorations(while we are constantly interrupting him with emergency repairs) by re-installing hand cut butterfly fasteners(called"Ducthmens" in the restoration trade) and then cured the screwing of the top by the installation of walnut dowels which now fasten the top in addition to the original period screws that come up through the table's interior frame box. The end result that appears in these pictures is after the investment of over 14 hours from our conservation wood working expert& twice that

Fine American Federal Period Sheraton Pembroke Table New York c. 1810-20. Crafted of magnificent solid mahogany boards, entirely original! Item# 120011RYI24 This listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result ... moreis breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. All three leaves boasting a perfect glowing golden mahogany waxed surface. The top and leaves are fully solid single mahogany boards, with no veneering or joining. Each leaf has cropped corners, lifting on original hinge hardware, with a rotating wing that smoothly glides out to solidly support the upraised leaf. There is a single drawer, outlined carefully with satinwood string inlay running below it. The drawer is hand dovetailed, front and back, ... morewith a hand planed and chamfered bottom. It features fully hand crafted brass pull hardware, original to the piece and a gorgeous piece of art in it’s own right. The frame sits over tapered legs, the secondary woods of solid pine. I believe this is a Sheraton style Mahogany Pembroke table with doors in the front and a leather top for writing. It is an uncommon item. It is open in the back. no back panel) and no signs of ever having one. Because of age and use, it shows some minor scratches and dinks, which only add character to the piece. It is in good used condition and very well made. Front view dimensions: with closed wings 21.5" Outside depth at widest point of table top arch- 15" Legs from floor to main body(where the doors are) 16 3/8" Total height- 28 1/4" Inside dimensions- 16"w x 10"h x 12"deep. I can't find a maker’s name on it. The only marking is 6014 carved underneath the main body or storage area. Definitely an unusual vintage piece!

This is a fantastic piece and one of the very few George III period pieces that employs birds eye maple in its construction. This table is in its original finish with fine structural integrity. It has had some professional restorative upkeep preformed on it and a repair a very old leg block split that was no doubt caused by the piece being pushed far too hard across. Its been addressed professionally. We observed it and obligated to inform you of it. We consider this as having no effect on the value of this wonderful ... morepiece, it is a remarkable fine piece and especially given the price we are offering it for. This piece has one drawer and a faux drawer facing on each of its ends. It has stunning turned and tapered legs and absolutely charming tiny brass leg cupped pivoting original caster wheels. Each the drawer and the faux facing are framed by birds eye maple cock bead moldings. The secondary woods are made from yew wood and pine with a wonderful red wash on it. The finish and surfaces are all in an untouched original good condition. The top has a few mars on it that are well within acceptable limits for an 18th century piece of furniture. A proper waxing will address this. Each leaf has finely crafted double wooden carved leave supports with hand carved wooden hinge systems. Pennsylvania c. 1780 w/ Marlborough legs and Shapely Stretchers Item# 1401NVP18PS This is an exceptional American Chippendale Pembroke table. Crafted with a very dense and vibrant grained Cuban mahogany top. The flow of the grains is incredibly attractive, the intense ribbing through the center made accentuated by the smooth straight grains along the edges of the leaves. Lifting over triangular wings that easily swing from their resting place integral with the frame, the surface is broad and highly functional. Both leaves retain their three original hand forged iron hinges. A single drawer eases in and out of the front of the table with a brass bail pull(replaced) ... morethe drawer front framed in an applied cockbead molding around most of the dovetails of the front joint. The bottom is deeply chamfered with triangular blocks set in the bevel to secure the drawer bottom firmly. Finishing the lower edge of the apron on both sides of the table is a thin tri-bead molding over the tapering Marlborough legs embellished with scrolling returns with a shapely stretcher joining into the legs with a tenon; these lift vertically in a cyma-curving climb embellished by offset nibs above and below each stretcher until they ultimately cross in an over-under joint. Truly eye catching are the crisp fluting and perfectly tapered form of each leg, this executed on the front and side of each leg with the interior corner being bevelled and interior sides left plain. They are sharp and very fine. The quality and craftsmanship in this fine piece is above reproach in every way- precise joinery and perfect carving have resulted in an investment grade work of art.
