Someone cut off a section of the very bottom so that it would fit closely next to something.however, it still is level because they cut off only a section, not the entire tip(please see the last pic) The other flaw is that there is a hair line split on the top where the wood has a miniscule separation. I had to inspect closely to find this. This table requires no restoration whatsoever. Has beautiful detail in the grain. Measurements are as follows: Oval Top is 32.75" long x 18" wide 27" tall from floor to top middle decorative shelf is 7.25" wide x 16" long with scrolling lower 2 round shelves are 10.5" in diameter. This is a beautiful well cared for table that has been refinished with a durable surface. It has four carved claw feet at each corner and a center leg for support. The dimensions are 42" X 42" The table opens and has 2 leaves that extends its length to 66" The legs are all fluted and 4 have carved claw feet. The center leg does not have a claw foot. Their are 4 chairs and they have spindle backs and have a leaf motif that embellish the top portion of the back. They have rec ent ly been recovered with a c ush ion ed seat. These cushions can be removed which will reveal the o rig inal caning sea ts that were there. However the caning will ha ve to be r eplaced. I think 2 of them are s till in tack but are prob ably on the i r way out. T he option is there if that's the look you' re after. Tel: 01432 357753 Description: This is a very attractive late 17th Century antique English oak baluster turned leg. Single frieze drawer side/ centre/ hall table. The table stands on turned bun feet, rising over this are the plain stretchers and lovely rich coloured baluster turned legs, having a moulded frieze and the drawer having a very decorative punched and chip carved decoration either side of the moulding and a matched punched decoration in the moulding of dog tooth designs. The drawer has pine linings and oak side rails, with the drawer runners cut into the side of the drawer frame. The table is surmounted by a solid oak top with cleated ends(which are a later repair) The table has a beautiful rich antique patination. A ... morelovely original antique country oak table suitable as a hall, side, centre, writing table or desk, of classic joined construction with mortise and tennon joints with dowels. Date: The table dates circa 1650- 1750- 17th- 18th Century. Condition: The table is in good condition for its age. There is some gnarling in one of the feet with minor distress marks to leading edges. There are some old woodworm holes and a little filler has been used in the side rail of the drawer. Nothing structural but worth a mention. The table is around 200- 300 years old therefore has character to reflect its age. There is a little lifting to one of the cleats in the timbers and the top is pegged in the corners, where the top meets the legs. The drawer front has a couple of pieces of wood'let in' over time. Again this all adding to character and authenticity. You are looking at one fine piece of furniture. Part of JDI Collection* and purchased new by the current owner 25 years ago for a larger home than the bungalow* she now resides in. She paid just under a $1000.00 for it from an elite furniture store. The photos say it best. I have included with and without flash photos so you can see it the hues in different lights. To my eye it is a bit less red and a bit more golden(typical of fine oak) then either set of photos shows. Since the carved legs stand proud the base is larger than the top surface. The base is approximately 40" x 40" outside foot edge to outside foot edge) and the top is 36+" x 36+" Stands 17" off the floor. I have checked the web and a comparative is about $1200.00 today from JDI. Beware of lovely looking carved tables that are not the real thing. I found ... morea similar in appearance table that was selling for $400 to $600 dollars on line at 6 different web sites-read the review from a customer who paid several hundred dollars for it on line- Ball and Claw Coffee Table by Coaster We bought this because it looks great. It looks"heavy" it is actually made with pressed wood and synthetic materials. The legs won't even hold the screws tight. Bottom line. It"looks" great but is poorly made. NO PRESSED WOOD HERE! Look at the solid-thick-heavy oak legs. They are as tight to the frame as the day it was sold. This table is lifetime quality and may become a family heirloom. You can pay as much for a new nice looking piece of particle board as the opening bid on this real-quality piece. Thank you. This is the first time I’ve ever seen this model of a tiger sawn oversized library table. ... moreYou can call it a conference table or a library table, but I call it one gorgeous table. It is so heavy. It comes apart in four pieces, the top is actually tiger sawn oak veneer over a laminated ash top that is 1-7/8 inches thick. There’s a seam down the middle where someone must have cut it and then re-glued it to put it into a home because it’s so heavy, without realizing that it’s manageable if you take it apart first. We brought it back from the estate from which we purchased it, stripped it, sanded and stained it, made sure that the seam in the middle was perfectly sound, reinforced the base and the top to make sure it was all good, then refinished it in a beautiful medium amber oak stain. The table dates from probably the 1890s– 1910s, and has a wicked thick round-cornered top, a double column pedestal platform shoe base that is 4 inches thick, big turned spindles in the center, and is joined together with a big cross member. The size of the table is 86 inches long, and it goes across 48 inches across, and is 31 inches high. I am a spread-out type person, myself, and I have a similar table in my office.
