Chinese Rosewood Rose Marble Top Table Carved Lion Heads & Fruit Qing Dynasty
Up for your consideration is a nicely carved Chinese table from the 19th Century. Qing Dynasty period. Per the writing on the bottom of this table, this was purchased as a gift in 1896. There are 4 lions heads carved above each leg of the table. There is four carved"panels" between each of the legs which have a leaves and fruit carved design. One of these panels is broken and you can shift the two halves apart slightly. One of the panels is missing a small carved piece of the wood near the bottom edge. One of the round beads along the top edge has also been damaged and has been partially broken off. There is writing on the bottom of the table in red which states: A present to my mother 1896 from her brother from Hong Kong" The name Barbara Parson(or Parsons) is also written in red on the bottom of this table. The piece stands ... moreapprox. 18" tall and is approx. 14" diameter across the top and weighs just under 17 pounds. I believe the wood to be rosewood(I cannot guarantee that it is. However) and the insert is rose marble. The rose marble is dull and scratched. I believe that it can be polished back to life, but I will leave that up to the buyer's discretion. If you are looking for a table that is in great condition. Then this is not the table for you. Considering the age of this table, I would say that it is in acceptable condition with damage, and wear from age and use. It stands firm and is a sturdy table. It's roughly 100 years old and most likely ebonized rosewood. The top has an inset piece of scalloped rose colored marble. The table measures 18 inches all around; 18 inches high by 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep. The marble is in great condition. As for the wood, there is one bottom runner missing. It's a smooth curved piece and should be easy to have made by a carpenter. When in place, this table will be solid. There are a couple of little nicks in the wood and one triangular repaired crack on top, but the majority of this piece is in exceptional shape for its age. It has a notched molded skirt. Heavily carved four outside legs, great center column with little balls attached to the outside, which is typical of Brooks, and the bottom return finial. The casters have been replaced with repros, which is no big deal. The marble has a slight stain in it, but nothing too serious. Overall, this is a really nice table at a reasonable price. The base is all solid black walnut, all carved back in the 1870s-80s era, and it looks like someone has either re-lacquered it or at least put a clear coat finish on it, because it looks a little shinier than a 120-year-old table would look. The patina looks really nice against the white and gray grain ogee beveled edge top, which has no cracks in it. The size is 37 inches long, 28 inches deep, and 30 inches high. I't as good as it gets in antique furniture. There's no damage, no repairs. It's in wonderful original condition with a great patina. The marble is in great shape as well. Thereare 2 very minor super ficial nics on the edge. They can barely be fet to the touch. There shown in the pics and hardly visible. I don't sell suprises. So while they're minor issues, I mention them. I'll estimate this piece around the turn of the 20th century in age. The stand is 30" high. It's 12 1/2" at the widest bend in the legs. Tennessee Central Railroad Railway Marble Industrial Coffee Table Top
Own a piece of American Railroad History. Tennessee Central Memorabilia is extremely hard to locate. This Tennessee Central Logo came from the floor of the old Freight Depot building Vestibule that sat on 1st Avenue here in Nashville. It is made of Tennessee Marble. Which was mined in East Tennessee from the mid 1800's until the early 1900's. Two colors, Grey and' Cedar' it is called, more of a purple tint. It measures about 34 inches across, and is just under an inch thick. In 1972 as they were tearing down the Depot a gentleman went to retrieve some of the Architectural Glass Blocks and this was in the floor. He asked the workers if it was to be saved and they told him no it was" going to the dump" He convinced them to let him salvage it. 3 hours later with a screwdriver and a claw hammer he had it out in one piece. ... moreHe's owned it all these years. I purchased it from him a while ago. It's been in my Living Room since. The Marble is as smooth as glass, polished very well. Use your imagination and consider a simple base, or use reclaimed wood and rails etc. One of a kind Historic item. Guaranteed Authentic and old! Condition is overall excellent with some minor chipping in the very top. This is a local pick up only. It's mounted on a piece of Ply Wood with wires stretched across to keep it stable and secure. Stunning Rams Head Marble Top Wood End Table - from the 1800's or earlier
This auction is for a magnificant antique wood table with hand carved wood rams head legs and a marble top. I do not know the age of the table but it is at least 3 generations old. It has to be at least from the 1800's and maybe the 1700's or earlier. It was my Great. Great, Great Grandmothers(3 greats) and I am not sure where she got it or how old it was when she got it. It has a nice marble top. The table is in very nice condition. The heads of the rams if you look at it very closely are ever so slightly different do to them being hand carved. The marble top being old mined marble is farly smooth but has soom slight roughness in places adding character to it. The table stands 31 1/4" tall and the top is about 14" in total diameter. As far as I can see, it does not have any markings indicating who made it. On very close ... moreinspection I see that at some point it looks like one rams head had broken but was securly and beautifully re-attached. In one of the pictures I point to that. The marble slides slightly in the frame when tiped. Certainly not a problem but wanted to mention it. It is however secure. This is a beautiful table and a beautiful piece. It deserves to be displayed in a high-end estate. This will be very well packaged when shipped and insured. I wil ship it through UPS.
