This is an oversized walnut or possibly mahogany solid wood gate-leg drop-leaf oval table. Which is most unusually oversized, that probably ... moredates from the Victorian era, 1870s to 1890s or so. It has hand-cut dovetails on both lipped drawers on both ends. We brought it in and had to replace a couple of broken spindles on the bottom frame. It had been refinished previously, and our cabinet man Norm put a coat of satin sheen lacquer on top of the existing finish. It measures 54 inches long, and when the 22-inch leaves are flipped up, it becomes 65 inches wide, 54 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. When the leaves and gate-leg braces are down, it becomes a sofa table measuring 23 inches wide. Look at the many turned spindles on the base, hand-cut dovetail drawers, raised panel, with the original period hardware. The table was described as being ca 1780 and as being made in New England. What I think makes is quite unique is the scalloped leaves on the table. Have come across this design very rarely in my 35 years of furniture dealing. The table appears to be made of birch wood. You be the judge of the wood type. It just has a great sheen and glow to the tabletop. Check out the one pic with a shot of the entire top with the leaves up. Just awesome. Great legs on this table as well with the design of them, not just squared out legs. I suspect this table originally belonged to someone of some stature. The top has dowel plugs where the legs and frame are attached ... moreto it. One side of the main top appears to have been mended at one time and a nice job of doing it was performed. The main top where it was pieced together has the seams coming apart. That is not splitting of the wood. A good master carpenter could fix that issue quite easily. The table is 38.5" long by 14-3/8" across with the leaves down. The table is 27.5" tall. With the leaves up. The table is 40.5" across. This is a very nice vintage Mersman Danish double drop leaf table. It is branded"Mersman 22-53" on the underside. Inside of the table. The measurements are appx. 15 1/2" tall x 19 1/2" deep x 49 1/4" wide with the leaves down and 66 1/8" with both leaves up. It is in overall good condition and a very sturdy and practical table. It does have standard wear marks and scratches but is in good condition for its age and comes from a smoke free home. The freight cost is an estimate. Willett Solid Cherry Coffee Table and 2 Drop Leaf End Tables Here are some great solid cherry Willett coffee tables and a matching coffee table for your buying consideration. Recently picked the pieces up at an auction. Willett furniture was made in Louisville. KY. Started making furniture in 1934 and went out of business in 1962. The Willett brand is very popular with collectors. I would guess the tables are from the mid-50s to early 60s. The cherry wood just glows! Cleaned them up with Murphy's wood soap and orange oil and then applied Liquid Gold. Certainly some minor dings to the wood and some scratching from years of use. But still look great. The end table leaves has a wood slide pull that holds the leaves in the up position. They are all there. The leg and drawer hardware all match and appear appropriate to the furniture. Only ... morething is see to report is that one of the leaves has a small piece out of it where it hinges at the table. Finish was matched well at some point in the past and the issue just adds to the personality of the furniture. I am not a fan of new things or IKEA disposable furniture! The end tables have metal wheels and end caps on the legs. The coffee tables sets on its' legs. Never had rollers on it. I see no cracks, splits or repairs(other than leaf noted above) to report to you. The coffee table has a nice scalloped trim that comes up on 3 sides of the top of the table. The end tables are 27.5" tall. By 27-5/8" across, by 18.75" wide(36.25" wide with the leaves up) Sorry, other items that can be seen in the pics besides the coffee and end tables described here are not included. This particular table is oak and has storage at both ends. On one end is a door with storage and a shelf. On the other end is another cabinet with a door and a utensil drawer. Even more rare and unusual are the spring operated gate legs and string pulls. most drop leaf tables with gate legs require you reach under and manually pull the legs out to support the leaf- notice this table has string pulls hanging from each end. The legs are spring operated so when you life ... morethe leaf the leg pops out into position. When you want to fold the table down you pull the strings and retract the legs. The strings are in very good condition and work well. The springs work pretty well too. One end pops right out when you lift the leaf, the other end requires just a little bit of help and it pops out into position as well, both ends work as designed when you want to fold the leafs up- just lift the leaf and pull the string to withdraw the legs and then drop the leaf. I also like it when a old piece like this has a makers tag and the patent tags because it is a lot easier to prove the age of the piece- this one has"pat applied for" and has the makers tag"A.C.W. I'm missing the 2 inserts that would enable that extension. Those two inserts could be found by the new buyer. One of the brass caps on one of the 6 feet of the table is missing. ANTIQUE OLD HICKORY GATE LEG DROP LEAF TABLE /W 6 CHAIRS
Up for auction is an antique Old Hickory drop leaf.Gate leg table with 6 Old Hickory chairs. The table measures with sides down- 24" X 42" each leaf is 21" by 42" and the height is 30" The overall measurement with the sides up is 66" X 42" This is a great set I have had it for over 20 years and have never really had a place for so it was in a closet along with all the chairs. There are a couple little marks on the table top but otherwise it is fantastic shape. The chairs are also in great shape, but there are some weave breaks, nothing major and they have been there since I bought the chairs. It's a beautiful set. I always thought that someday when the seats got really bad I would have them all redone, but never got to do that, because I never used it. The table is almost 22 inches tall. Not sure of the age. If it is antique. It has been refinished. It looks wonderful, except for a spot on the end where it scraped on something.
