Item# 120011RYI24 ... moreThis listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result is breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. Ahlberg, Antique Furniture, New Haven, Conn" The drawer is hand dovetailed at the back, nailed at the front, chamfered on the thick bottom along the sides to rabbet into the drawer frame and is nailed at the back of the drawer with a modern nail. Mahogany Drop Leaf Dining Table By Conway Co. Baltimore
Vintage mahogany dining room drop leaf table with 6 legs. Made in Baltimore by the Conway Co. Measures about 76 inches long and 42 inches wide when fully opened. Rests on 4 legs when in the drop leaf position. 2 legs on each end swing open to hold the leafs in place. Piece is small enough to put away until that extra company comes. When table is not opened fully it measures just about 42 inches L by about 28 inches wide. There is a slight unevenness I noticed in picture on end of 1 leaf. My driveway tilts down and I think I did not make the leg straight. If this is not the reason for slight tilt it is an easy fix to remedy. There are a few scuffs here and there on a table expected of an older piece. Still a very great extra table to have.

Diminutive Federal mahogany drop leaf table by the WURLITZER Company. It has two drawers, locking side leafs, hairy paw feet, exquisite grain. Yes, you read it right, by the Wurlitzer Company. Each drawer has a bronze Wurlitzer plate and the bottom of one drawer is stenciled 7061 WURLITZER. The best we can tell from doing online research is during the 1930's(the depression) demand for their musical machines and instruments waned, to augment their bottom line and keep their employees working in their North Tonawanda factory they experimented with furniture. Well if this table is any indication. They did the very best quality. The grain is exquisite, we see just a couple of very minor scratches. So gorgeous. It is in very nice condition with only a few light scratches. I am not sure of the type of wood. Maybe Mahogany is my guess. Lots of nice wood carving on the legs. It fold down to a 2 foot table. The idea was to protect the body from being snatched by evil spirits. After the service, the sides were unfolded and food& beverages surrounded the casket. The celebration of life then began! I was told this is a tea table. It has a tilt-top or drop leaf. When the table top is raised it locks into place. It shows wear from years of use and has a nice patina. I don't see any damage or repairs. It is marked Mahogany and I think the maker's label or store label says T ENN for Tennessee(see photos) What I really like about this table is that it has a cross bar at the top for carrying. Antique mahogany dining table with drop leafs and gate legs. There is no maker's mark. But I believe it is from the 1940s. Two standard size side chairs can slide underneath on the ends with leafs down. With both leafs up it can seat 8 comfortably, 10 possible. There is one watermark on a leaf(see pic 4) And the top of one leg has some splitting that needs repairing(see last pic) Other than that there are some light scuffs and scratches, normal for a table of this age.
