Duncan Phyfe style antique drop-leaf dining table and 4 chairs set
For consideration is a solid mahogany antique drop-leaf dining room set in the Duncan Phyfe style. Has 2 pedestals and four chairs. The table has the original Watertown slide mechanism. And was made by Extensole out of Sparta, Michigan. Entirely original, including the brass claw cap feet on pedestals. There are two leaves for this table, making it a 77 inch by 40 inch at its largest(w/the leaves) and 24 x 40 when the leaves are out and sides are dropped. 53 inches with just the 2 sides up. I have easily had 8 place settings when the leaves are in. The four chairs are also solid mahogany. And the pads have a red and green herringbone fabric on them, but they could be popped out and updated with whatever fabric is more appealing to you. Beautiful old Oak drop leaf farm table with legs that are turned spindles and the top is a typical two piece construction that is a tell tell sign of its vintage origin. The leafs are held up by a swinging gate arm(visible in one of the pictures) on both sides. Arms are solid and swing easily. With the leafs down it is a compact size allowing it to fit in any kitchen or small area. There is a slight imperfection on one of the inside of one of the edges and there are some minor scratches on the top. This table is still in better condition than most tables of it's age. Vintage Northwest Chair Company 1900-1950's Oval Maple Drop Leaf Folding Table Details Label on bottom says Northwest Chair Co. Tacoma Wash. ~ I did some research and it appears they operated out of Tacoma Washington from about 1900 to 1950. Their furniture is considered to be pretty high quality according to various comments on antique blogs, I believe this piece was first acquired by the family in the 1940's so I am guessing that's the approximate circa but it could be older as we had many other maple pieces dating back to the turn of the century. Height from floor to top of table is about 25-1/4" Long side of oval top is about 30-1/4" Short side of oval top is about 26" With one leaf dropped the table top area is about 30-1/4" long x 21-1/2" wide With both leaves dropped the table top area is about ... more30-1/4" long x 12-1/2" wide There are minor scratches and scuffs on the tabletop and various places around the support spindles and framing. Most appears superficial and could be refinished. There is crack on the inner table top skirt in one corner. It appears cosmetic not structural and is hidden beneath the table so can't be seen. This crack does not go all the way through the skirt and appears to be a shallow surface crack or grain separation. Otherwise the skirt is rock solid with no movement or looseness as a result of this minor wood split. S ee pics with arrow pointing to issue. Also there are some small chips in one of the spindle ends where it contacts the floor S ee pics with arrow pointing to issue. and the metal floor glides have some rust. These could probably be polished or replaced with nylon glides if you have hard floors. If you like restoring antique furniture then this would make a great project. Some of the work is already done because it is somewhat dismantled. The only things missing are the two pieces that hold up the leaves when they are in position but that should be relatively easy to make. It looks as though there is one coat of paint on this. The multi-colored top must have been used for a work bench at one time. There are no drill holes or saw cut marks on the top. For easier and less cost on shipping I will leave it the way it is. I may try and remove the leaves which are attached with 3 hinges each. The measurments are 41" with the leaves extended and 36" wide. Without the leaves extended it is 20" x 36" The height will be 30 1/4" when the legs are attached. Local pickup is available.
