The barley twist legs look great on this gate leg table. Each gate swings easily and the leaves are very sturdy when up. The leaves raise independently ... moreso you can just one leaf up or both. This gate leg table is very sturdy and has minor wear consistent with age especially to the finish on the top. There are two age separations to the top as well which do not affect the structural integrity of the table, but do add to its rustic charm. With its rustic oak and beautiful patina this lovely table would make a wonderful addition to any home. This table goes from 13″ wide with the leaves down to 35.5″ wide with both leaves up. The only issue I have sound with this piece is that someone added a few nails to the top. The top must have been lose and they nailed a few nails into it to tighten it up. The nail heads are very small and are flush on the top of the table so they are very hard to see. I did not notice them until I cleaned the piece. You are looking at a stunning. Rare antique solid oak with Burl Walnut Jacobean refectory/dining table and chairs. The table is pre 1879 and is from England. It has Barley twist legs and self-enclosed leaves/extenders. It is in excellent condition. The chairs have only been recovered. But the finish is original to our knowledge(we've owned these pieces for over 40 years) Extending boards are in perfect working order. The table measures 40" wide and just under 64" long. Each extender is 28" long. Making this table a generous and spacious 120" 10 ft. long when extended! The chairs are 2 different designs. 3 of each design. Each of the chairs is also solid oak and have the barley twist legs, as well as stiles with blocks and finials. They are all in excellent condition, but the seats have been recovered. Table legs and front chair legs feature the spiral carving called barley twist. Our consignor's father bought this as an antique in the 1960s; she fondly remembers many Thanksgiving dinners with her family at this table. The warm. Homey wooden table with its paneled table top, carved legs, and matching chairs would be perfect in a kitchen, casual dining room, family room or craft room. Or a pub! THE OVER ALL SILHOUETTE IS WONDERFUL- BARLEY TWIST- PIERCE CARVED.THERE ARE A FEW AGE APPROPRIATE SURFACE CRACKS AND A SCUFF HERE AND THERE- BUT IN OVER ALL EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT CONDITION!
