ANTIQUE FRENCH BARLEY TWIST OCTAGONAL TABLE WALNUT or OAK
Up for auction is this amazing estate find Octagonal Barley Twist table. Made in France circa 1800's or early 1900's with a cane/rattan top. I can't be sure whether it is oak or walnut. The table stands 29" tall and 26" wide. There is a small hole in the cane as you can see(I believe it can be repaired) The table is showing slight signs of age and wear but it is in very good condition and very solid. It stands very level and secure. There is no wobble or lean whatsoever. It looks like it belongs in a castle or museum. Thanks and good luck.

It is getting harder to find a Good smaller size Barley Twist leg table these days at a good price. This is a well made table with pretty Barley Twist Legs. It has a Medium Dark Oak Patina to it. These were used at"tea time" in the UK. They would be set up and then the tea would be served. After"tea time" they would be folded down and set up next to a wall until it was time for tea again. Today. These make wonderful entry tables with a pretty plant or flower arrangement on them. The also make a nice end or side table. They do not require at lot of room to store if you are not going to use it everyday. It has a medium dark oak patina to it and is a little darker in real life than the pictures show. It has some dings. It has a very nice"double beveled edgr" top along with a neat& fuctional drawer that is bordered with"bead trim" The drawer has the very old"wide cut dovetailed" construction method used in building it. This type of joint were used before 1915. This table is well made out of Solid Oak. 1920's English Oak Barley Twist Pub Table with self storing leaves
Antique(estimated 1920's) English oak pub table. Barley twist legs, self contained leaves make it a nice game table size when compacted. Fully extended measures 60 1/2 inches x 35 3/4 inches, 30 1/2 inches tall. With the leaves retracted, 36 1/2 inches x 35 3/4 inches. I purchased this for my own personal use over a decade ago in an antique store from a woman whose family lived in London and would frequently visit there on buying trips when the exchange rate was more to her advantage. The finish was represented as original and shows normal wear(mostly just on the top) for the age. Well, I'd say it looks pretty good for a table that's almost 100 years old, but I am not an expert! The leaves are slightly darker than the center, as it has been used more in its compact state. With it's unique size, it could be used as an end table, lamp table, side table and even a bedside table. Again, this is a well made table. It has a pretty beveled edge top as well as the pretty Barley twist Legs with"Teardrop Feet" It has some very pretty wood grains showing through on the top. The table is 14" X 13 3/4" and about 20" tall. It has a medium dark Oak Patina to it. It has some small blemishes to the finish on the table top(light or dark spots or marks) nicks. This auction is for a pretty and unique Honey Oak Barley Twist Stand or Cabinet from England. This is a neat& nice stand with Jacobean accents on three sides of the box. The one that was on the back did not make the trip from England. It has a"pin cushion" attached to the underside of the lid. It has a removable tray for spool storage. Not only is a neat sewing stand, it would make a super entry piece it would make in a small to medium size foyer! It could be used as a side. lamp table or bedside table. We seldom see a sewing box of this one quality. It's s tructurally sound and should last for at least another hundred years or so. This cabinet/stand is not new or a reproductions. It been around quite a while. The top is 16" X 16" and it's 29" tall overall. The body is 15" X 15 1/8" and the storage ... morearea inside is about 14 3/8" deep. The removable tray is 12" X 13 3/8" and is divived into 7 compartments. The Patina is a honey oak. A WORD ABOUT THE CONDITION. The overall condition of this stand is good. Good overall condition, This lovely gate leg side table features absolutely gorgeous quartersawn oak(also known as tiger oak) with a beautiful patina. Made in England around 1920 this table is in very good condition and very sturdy. The legs are a thicker barley twist than most. Giving this gate leg side table a heavier, more masculine feel than many other gate leg tables. Both gates swing open and closed very easily. With both ... moreleaves down this table is 19.5″ wide and it opens up to a full 54″ with both leaves up. You will notice on the top there are four black lines stained into the top. The top has also sustained some very minor surface marks which we have captured in the accompanying photos. These minor cosmetic markings lend character and charm to the table. The quartersawn oak of this table is particularly beautiful and very hard to find in such good condition. Don’t miss out on this table!
