This is a wonderful old primitive 2 drawer cabinet. Rescued from an old barn. Very crudely made. Looks to have been remade from pieces of other furniture a long time ago. It measures 30" high. 17" wide and 24.5" deep. Paint is a burnt orange or brownish/orange color. Great paneled sides. Both of which are different from each other. Drawers are slightly different sizes. Top back board of the top is a little more raised than the rest. Shows much age and wear and imperfections. Lots of paint spatters and crackle. We recently acquired this find at an Estate sale of a master word working craftsman in Chicago. Illinois Here we have a beautifully rugged relic of days gone by that stopped us in our tracks at a recent auction…a hardwood Master Carpenter’s workbench. Circa early 1930’s. The patina is absolutely amazing. This hasn't been made to look aged or distressed. The gentleman who owned this bench would have been over 100 years old, if he were with us today. He was a master craftsman who created many of the hand made clocks and cabinets in their simple home beginning in the early 1930’s, and we could only imagine how many hours he must have spent ... moreworking away at this very bench. This authentic vintage carpenter’s bench bears all of the patina and markings of its age and purpose. You’ll find both deep and superficial cuts, grooves, and wear marks… small paint splatters, a few small burn marks and more… each helping to tell the story of its history. There are two vices at the front of the bench in perfect working order. We found this antique bench to be neat, orderly, and lovingly maintained in the basement workshop of the home. We’ve taken care not to change a thing, simply giving it a linseed oil treatment to bring out its beautiful tone and texture. We think the look and size of this beautiful bench would make a great sofa table. Kitchen island, hall table, or even a workbench once again for today’s craftsman. This is definitely one of the nicest carpenter benches we have come across! Someone took the time to preserve the character of this bench and they did an unbelievable job! It could definitely be used a workbench again. But we are thinking beyond that. With industrial and primitive being two of the hottest decor styles in demand right now. You can have the best of both worlds right here! Do you have extra space in your kitchen? If not you might want to think about knocking down a wall for this one! This would be the most unbelievable kitchen island or sideboard in your dining room! No room there? How about a very unique bar? Do you see the trough along the one side- or should I say drink rail? This bench is not too big and not too small- it comes in at about 75" long by 24" wide by 33 1/2" tall. The length and width measurement are just the main workbench top and not the vises that stick out a little more. Regarding the width you would add about 6 1/2" for the vise and handle for a total of roughly 31 1/2" in that spot. The length including the end vise would be 83 1/2" long the way it is pictured. It does not appear to go in all the way and where it is pictured is as far as it goes. We are not 100% sure if that is how it is supposed to be or if it should be able to go in a little further. It couldn't go much further in though with the nuts sticking out of the side in that same area. It's an antique workbench so it has a lot of wear and tear to give it the character it has. If you are expecting something new and perfectly smooth on top this is not for you. It is impossible to describe every flaw and frankly in our eyes we do not consider them flaws. Structurally. This is is so beautiful in the Empire style. The large column center post ends in four beautiful curled legs in a square base format. The top is SO nice! This is a 42" round but has two leaves to expand to 66" for dining. Although this was someone's fine dining table in the early 1900's. This also makes an elegant kitchen table, or game table! It is small enough for 2-4 people to sit around nicely but with the leaves you can add up to six people, maybe more. So versatile! Great for a lake cottage or NY city apartment. The finish is just wonderful. This is not a patch job. I see no damage to the table at all and the original sliding hardware ... morelocks tightly with a wood handled latch. The chairs were originally cained but someone has simply added a wood cut seat to each eliminating that whole broken cane issue. These are very sturdy and are marked Wiffmer MIlling& Mfg Co. PA. Signed by the woodworker. Chairs are gorgeous with lion faces on the backs of each! One thing to note is that the leaves are not original to the table. They are cut to size and refinished to match closely(slightly darker due to being from another table) but they are not exact. They match very well. They have dowels to lock into the circle shape. Lastly. The table has for nice wheels on the bottom that are removable but they allow your to roll the table wherever you want it. This table measures 42" round and extends to 66" with two leaves. It is 30" tall. The chairs are 39" tall x 20" wide x 19" deep. This is such an easy set to move around. The top come off and the base will fit through any door. You can transport this in an SUV. Antique Possum Table - Baker's Table for Kitchen - Age Unknown
Old possum table. It's in very nice condition. The hutch part just sits on top of the enamel table top. The enamel table top has some wear but it is an antique piece so it really adds to the look and appearance. The enamel has some staining and some chipping along the edges on the wrap. There is a breadboard pull-out just above the bottom drawers beneath the table top. The bottom drawer bottoms are metal and I believe are made of tin but I am not an antique dealer so don't know for sure. Description of item for sale: This antique table dates to the early/mid 1800's. It's a classic Flemish style table made from thick. Heavy oak throughout. The top is nearly 2" thick. With it's weight and sturdiness, this table would make a beautiful kitchen island: the surface could be raised with spacers either between the top and base or under the feet. The table is in very good antique condition with damage only on one trim section of the skirt(see photos) Of course it is rustic and there are numerous small nicks, minor discolorations, cracks and scratches.
