An excellent original Japanese samurai wakizashi blade with beautiful calligraphy written on both sides of the scabbard. The blade is wide and healthy and the sharp cutting edge measures 40.5 cm. There are no bends cracks chips or forging flaws. The Edo period polish is in overall excellent condition with areas of light surface corrosion. The Temper line is wide. Bright, and very active. The tang is unmarked with one hole filled with copper. Nice original copper habaki. Scabbard has been glued together sometime in the past. The handle is missing. Please feel free to ask questions.

Cutting portion of blade measures approximately 20 1/2" while total blade length is 26" Blade appears to be in decent condition. While it does have some light scratches and openings in the grain. I did not see any chips or cracks in the cutting portion of blade. I am unsure what the age of blade and fittings are. The sheath looks a bit too ornate to be very old. And the wrapping on the handle does not look very good. A Nagasone School nihonto Wakizashi Shinto Era- blade circa 1650 to 1700 In high polish condition. An excellent Shinto period Japanese Wakizashi. The beautiful Ko-Gunome-Midare Ha Hamon indicates the blade is from the Nagasone School(at Yedo) in Musashi Province. Circa 1650-1700. The blade is in very good condition with a fabulous high polish, no nicks etc, the hada(grain) is very visible, clearly a cherished weapon in it's day. The 21 inch blade(excludes habaki) has three mekugi-ana holes and proves the blade is of a good age. The tang is Mumei(unsigned) The Habaki I believe is silver, normally they are brass so this a rarity in its self. The sword generally is in very good condition. The same(rayskin) has split one side as it has dried(olive oil may correct this) or can be restored by a tsuka restorer with ease. The most famous of Tegai forging is Kanenaga. He is considered the founder of the Sue Tegai School Papers are Koshu Tokubetsu Kicho(Extraordinarily Precious) Data from 1973 to 1982. NBTHK Hozon special grade paper was issued on 27 February 1977) This kind of swords therefore be scarce also very popular with the Samurai because it is the best quality swords. Japanese Sword Wakizashi Signed Sa Old Style design 50 cm Nagasa
I have had this thing forever it seems. It was one I got from my friend that his Grandfather brought it back from Japan before the Nanking invasion. It looks like it was getting ready to be repaired as the ware was large and they cleaned it out which is proper procedure for these type inclusions. But it must have been a well thought of blade to go to all that trouble. But it looks like he fled with the blades before it could be finished? I do not know but it is worth getting someone in Japan to look at it. I made a canary wood saya and purple heart tsuka just to rest the blade in as it was bare when I got it and made a habaki for it. I polished it as it was rusty and the lines were rounded over. I took the very bare minimum on this blade as I knew it had that old feel to it. The tiny kissaki and almost no sori shape was just very much like ... morethe 1300's period. It has 3 menuki ana one filled with lead. The nakago is 14.5 cm long and elegant, 6.1mm thick at Hamachi, 0.4cm sori, it has boshi and hamon is intact and very organic and Ko Midare Itame and Masame hada. Japanese Sword Muromachi Period Japanese Wakizashi with Kogatana 37 cm Nagasa
This is a very old Shobu-Zukuri style wakizashi. It is a very organic blade with the flared tip; think shinogi-ji very elegant and a real slicer. It has the original saya and tsuka. Although missing one part of the hardware on the tsuka it is a very fine old blade. I did a very light clean-up polish on the blade and the tsuba was a little loose so I made a copper bushing for it. It has a two piece copper habaki and a signed Ko-Gatana knife all original to the blade, There is a little rust on the edge I will remove before shipping as it is just surface. I have too many blades and it is time to move them to a new home so I have time to look after the ones I will keep. We only have 2 hands: 5.2mm thick at Hamachi, 12.3 unsigned nakago, 0.9 cm sori, Itame and Mokume hada mix, Ko Midare organic hamon, full turn back at tip; the blade has not been ... moreshortened or chipped heavy as the lines are too perfect.
