For auction is this fine antique Japanese wakizashi sword set. The 17th century blade is a real beauty. The japanese polish is high quality and mint condition, ... morecompletely damage free clean blade with very sharp edge, also flawless with only a couple of very minor usual kizu above the shinogi line(ridge) nothing on the cutting surface. The temperline is Sanbonsugi hamon. A very fine pattern developed in the 16th century by Kanemoto. The activities are truly fantastic with fully packed activities. Lot of Nie crystals, Sunagashi, Inazuma, elegant peaks and valleysm very dense and flamboyant temperline that is very scarce and desirable and hard to find, especialy on a minty blade. The grain work is also very good and healthy. Not overpolished blade, the tip is elegant with a fine clearly visible boshi also full of nice activities and shape. The tang has 2 holes and unsigned with nice patination. Although it is unsigned there is sayagaki in the shirasaya. A judgment by the master polisher. Although I did not have time to have it translated fully it is clear that it states the blade was made by Katsukuni. The Katsukuni smiths were well known for being skilled at creating the famous sanbonsugi hamon. The Edo koshirae is great. The old saya has kaeritsuno(horn hook) too, the lacquer is good with minor dings from use. The double copper habaki in nicely filed and heavily gold washed. The copper tsuba has nice open theme and the rim is gold washed also. The tsuka has good old rayskin and tight ito. Finely detailed inlayed copper menukies in the shape of bulls, good iron fuchi and kashira also. Nothing rattles. Very nice sword. It also comes with copy of japanese registration card along with the shirasaya set too. Highly recommended sword made to high standard. Hard to find a blade with such a nice temperline as this, the pictures do not do justice to its quality. cutting edge: 53.5 cm(21 inch) width: 26 mm thickness: 5.5 mm total length: 87cm(34 inch) International(with tracking number. Comments: Reisen Sadamori(Hawley SAD 523. 100 points) was a swordsmith of the Kongobyoe ... moreschool of Chikuzen province. The smiths of this school all use the character‘mori’ in their mei. The first part of Sadamori’s mei comes from the harbor town, Reisen in Hakata City. Sadamori's earliest extant dated work is 1350 AD. He worked in the region governed by the. As evidenced by a rare tanto inscribed Shohei 25. This date corresponds to the Northern Court’s date of Ohan 3, which is roughly 1370 AD in the Gregorian calendar. There also exists a tanto with a 1369 date on it, roughly establishing his work period. The Kongobyoe school passed down from smiths Takanawa. Morikuni, Moritaka, and then to the various other smiths of the school, including Reisen Sadamori. The school’s style exhibits both Yamashiro and Yamato influences and consequently their work can be described as majiwarimono, or"off the path" The masame in the ha of Kongobyoe works lends to their general classification of Yamato-den style. The jigane has a very slightly whitish cast which in conjunction with the nagare(streaming) tendencies, is seen in swords from the Kyushu region. Kongobyoe swords are defined by their high quality jigane, thick kasane, chu-kissaki, and thin hososug

Comments: On commission The Shimada school is said to have been founded in the mid 1500s by Yoshisuke. The brother of Shimada Sukemune. Yoshisuke’s name seems to have been carried on by several generations of smiths of the Shimada school, and work of these later smiths has been attributed dating from the mid-Muromachi period. Although the Shimada school was not one of the Gokaden, they maintained a close relationship with the Sue-Soshu school, and some of their swords show pronounced Soshu influence. The Shimada school seems to have also had technical exchanges with the Shitahara and Sengo schools, and with the smiths of Mino province. The Myo-O are particularly venerated by the Shingon sect of Japanese esoteric Buddhism. They are a group of wrathful deities known in English as the Mantra Kings. The Wisdom Kings or the Knowledge Kings. Fudo Myo-O is the best known of these deities. He is the patron of the martial arts, of healing, and of business. He carries a sword that represents wisdom cutting through ignorance, or truth cutting through illusion. He also carries a rope in his left hand, for binding demons/illusions. REFERENCES.

Japanese Samurai Sword Repair Parts- Saya Hook- Wakizashi This is a nice horn piece which goes on the Saya of a Japanese Wakizashi. I have heard it called by various Japanese names. But the piece is so unusual that the term for it is not in the daily vocabulary of most collectors. This feature is found on only the best-appointed Japanese swords, and as often as not, the original has been damaged or broken off at the base. Anyway. This piece is made from 100% authentic water buffalo horn to the exact specifications of an original one. It was commissioned many years back by a collector/restorer who searched for years before he found a skilled Asian craftsman who a) knew what he was doing, and b) would make one for less than $150. Trying hard not to press his luck, he had a few made in Katana, Wakizashi, and Tanto sizes. Of course. Some Wakizashi ... moreare basically a short Katana as opposed to smaller than a Katana. This hook is not for a Katana-sized sword. SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED- WHEN THEY'RE GONE. THEY'RE GONE! Examples of swords with a hook fitting on the Saya: samurai sword. Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto, Saya, Habaki, Fuchi, Kashira, Kurikata, Kojiri, Koiguchi, Menuki, Saya, rayskin same, Tsuka, tsukaito, Kozuka
For auction is this fine antique Japanese wakizashi sword set. The 17th century blade is a real beauty. The japanese polish is high quality and mint condition, completely damage free clean blade with very sharp edge, also flawless with only a couple of very minor usual kizu above the shinogi line(ridge) nothing on the cutting surface. The ... moretang has 2 holes and unsigned with nice patination. For sale is this wide strong Shinto period wakizashi in shirasaya. The blade was made around 1600-1650's. It is in good japanese polish, no nicks, rust, pitting, stains, scratches etc. but there is one area with flaws on the ji. The hada is visible, the hamon is good strong suguha based pattern with strong nie cristals. The tips is strong with good large boshi. Also nice activities can be seen here. The tang is unaltered with deep patination. There is signature on it. But hard to translate it, perhaps says Oguchi. The blade is housed in good copper habaki and shirasaya. cutting edge: 51 cm(20 inch) width: 29 mm thickness: 6 mm International(with tracking number. Insurance) shipping cost: European Union countries: $32 United States and Canada: $39 Australia: $39 Please note. Aviation law changed and now edged weapons can only be sent via ... moresurface option, this will cause a 1-2 weeks delay or maybe more, of course it will still have tracking number and insurance on it. My pride and joy- A fine late 17th century Japanese wakizashi. Completely original late 1600's/ early 1700's blade in great polish with no fatal flaws. The blade is in a quite rare/ uncommon shobu zukuri style. This is not a cut down Katana. Instead it was in my opinion forged as a wakizashi and would have been part of a pair of daisho(katana and wakizashi) worn by the samurai of yore. The blade has cutting edge of about 14 inches. Blade is about 1.5 inches wide at the widest point. and the tang measures approx 4.2 inches. In its saya, the total length is 23.5 inches long. It has an irregular hamon that covers the length of the blade with no flaws and shows nice activity. Which could enhanced with just a basic touch up polish done by a professional(something i neither have the money or contacts here in the UK to arrange myself) The ... moreis in very good condition for a 300+ year old blade. There are some minor openings along the spine of the blade but they are minimal, look worse in the pictures than they do in the flesh, and are not fatal flaws. The blade is not'tired' and could take another polish. The edge is razor sharp and has no nicks/ chips that i can see with the naked eye. There is no rust/ pitting. The nakago has not been tampered with and has a nice even oxidization. The koshirae are nice but kind of a mixed bag. The tsuba is very nice. With nice carving and gold embellishments and certainly has much age(1800's? though dating tsuba is beyond a novice like me. The tsuka is rock solid, the whole blade has no movement within its mounts. The tsuka has a tight and well done green ito wrap with fully intact same showing some nice nodes. This obviously again has age. The copper menuki, and the horn kashira(spellings? are obviously later additions however. The habaki is a quality one, nicely done in thick gold foil(which is starting to crack slightly along the edge on one side) The saya is in good condition with black laquer(that has suffered some minor paint chips over its life. not many and aga

Attributed to the Shinto Jumyo by the NBTHK. The blade has very recent Hozon origami. Sugata: Unokubi-zukuri based on hira-zukuri. Shallow tori-zori, iori-mune. Shinogi-hi on one omote and futasuji on ura. Overall length: 17.83 inches(453.00 mm) Nagasa: 12.99 inches(330.00 mm) long. A ... morecouple of small, thin kitae-ware, and some minor scratches on the kissaki that can only really be seen in a x10 macro photograph. Mounts: The mounts have Hozon origami. Koshi-kazami saya. Tsuka wrapped with jabara-ito, and black patinated copper habaki. Edo period mumei tsuba of a concert under a tree. Stunning dragonfly fuchi-kashira in iron and gold, and tree peony menuki. The kozuka is decorated with parent and child lions. Comments: A very nice wakizashi in excellent mounts. With a blade from a highly regarded school in very good condition. It is unusual to have both the blade and the koshirae papered. Scans of the papers issued by the NBTHK are at the bottom of the pictures. The Jumyo school existed from the very earliest days of the Mino Den. They were located in the county of Saigun. Particularly in Shimizu village. There were many Jumyo smiths, so it is difficult to be sure which smith made a particular sword. It seems that the Shodai. signed Jumyo and Noshu Onogun Sai-gun Junin Jumyo) came from Yamato in approximately 1302 and was one of the forerunners of the Mino tradition. The migration of many smiths from Yamato during this period may explain the amalg
Here is a great Wakizashi. Circa 1550, 54.5 cm. cutting edge, fully mounted with complete wrapped handle. Habaki. Seppa and Scabbard. The fittings(Fuchi Kashira and Menuki) are all old Shakudo style wrapped over nicely configured Rayskin and the Tsuba is an old(Katchushi? style. Pierced with three comma shapes. The Scabbard is lacquered black and the blade is uncut and has a slight(two inch) ware in the Shinogi-Ji on one side. Between 6 cm. and 11 cm. above the Habaki, which could easily be made into a short groove or hammered flat. This is the only flaw in the blade. Because of the closed'crab claw' design of the temper. I would guess this sword to be related to the Sukesada group. I believe the handle alone. With these fittings to be worth the price. The Fuchi Kashira has a floral design and the Menuki are Shishi(Lion Dogs) Both ... moreShakudo. This blade would look great. Either alone, or matched up with a similar looking Katana. Mihara school works are actually highly regarded. And the school has many Juyo Token to their credit. Their swords are skilfully made, and

Up on the block. A Japanese Wakizashi(Companion Sword) this is a WW11 or earlier sword, I don't know a lot about Japanese swords, I do know that this set is missing a few pieces, the spring steel clip that keeps the sword snug in the scabbard and maybe a chain that fits from the hole in the butt to the hole on the end of the guard. The blade is in good condition. No nicks, it is sharp. When the sword is in the scabbard the two together measure 27" long, just the sword alone measures 24" long overall, the blade is 19" long. It takes special training skill and tools to properly polish and sharpen the sword. 2 Do not use sandpaper. Steel wool or any abrasive materials on any part of the blade including the tang(nakago) These will scratch the blade and detract from its beauty. 3 Do not use ANY type of metal polish on the parts of the sword handle. Guard or scabbard. The fittings on the sword are generally not supposed to be bright and shiny. 4 Do not handle the blade with bare hands. The oils and acids from your skin can cause the blade to rust(in some cases it may stain almost immediately) Use a clean cloth around the blade to handle it. 5 Whenever one draws a mounted sword out of its bag or scabbard. Make sure the position of the hilt does not go lower than the scabbard. SWORD MAINTENANCE- HOW TO PREVENT RUST Rust is the major enemy of the Japanese sword blade. The best course of action is t

Hello. I welcome you to NihontoArt. I currently have a Website where you can purchase directly some unique Japanese treasures directly. You are welcome to visit me at: Nihontoart where you can find many other unique antiques for sale. I will be uploading swords within the next few weeks. You can contact me through ebay or directly through my website's address with any questions. The link is on the homepage under" contact" If for whatever reason I don't re ply it is because the email has not been properly received. Please try again. Please see the bottom of the page where many pictures are posted below. And take the time to read the full description(it is worth the time) The purchase details are listed at the bottom. I am posting this really beautiful and unique DaiSho set dating back to the Muromachi& Edo period(16th ... moreto 17th century) I have been collecting antiques for for many years and I would like to share these great finds with you for a very good price. Please keep in mind that there are many swords on ebay. But be cautious as to which ones are imitations and if they are good investments. There are only a certain number of these items left in the world and not all are worth investing your hard earned dollars. Everyone is welcome to see and ask questions, but only serious buyers please. My collection is of very high quality items, every piece I own was hand picked and meticulously inspected during my lengthy trips to Japan. I would categorize my blades to be of a higher grade compared to most of the others sold on Ebay. I have sold many on ebay but mostly are sold privately. People with Zero Feedback please contact me before! Blade: The Katana is nice long with elegance and curvature to it. Is accompanied with NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho certification. According to the certificate it has been attributed as"Kanesada" Kanesada had multiple generations and its work spanned from Bunmei Era to Tanbun Era, so its difficult to know exactly when it was forged but I would safely put it at 500
