Costa Rican Blue Jade Belt Celt Pendant ca 500- 800 AD Dimension: 16 cm by 5.8 cm by 1.8 cm Material: Highly translucent blue jadeite Provenance: Central ... moreValley of Costa Rica You will never find any better quality blue jade that this. Especially as an ancient artifact. This belt pendant is made from a highly translucent aqua colored jadeite. Light even passes through the thickest portion of the celt. This simply an amazing museum quality artifact! In typical fashion. It is highly polished on the front, with a satin smooth polish on the rear and sides. This pendant was made from a larger full celt, that was string cut from each side until a narrow septum was left connecting the two halves. The septum was snapped and this piece was made from one of those halves. The septum on the rear remains quite visible, but care-taking grinding was done to smooth the edges. There are two conically drilled holes(drilled from the back) for suspension. Although heavily polished, mineralized deposits remain in areas, especially in the under cuts and pitting on the celt. The pendant comes with a custom museum mount. Which is poitioned to have the septum showing, but with minor bending, it can be changed to have the polished front showing. Available provenance will be provided to purchaser. T his piece is absolutely guaranteed(money back) to be ancient and authentic as described. Buyer pays $15.00 shipping in the US. Which includes Priority Mail and insurance. Actual shipping costs apply elsewhere.

This is a reproduction of an original piece from the Tumaco culture. Which flourished between 500 BC and about 500 AD in what is the Pacific coastal area ... moreof southwestern Colombia. This piece represents the head of an Indian woman, intentionally separated from the body as part of a funeral rite. The ceremony had the implicit connotation, that when a human being dies, so does his control of thoughts and the mind. The artistic expression in these figures is realistic, keeping individual physical features, and becoming a living portrait. This particular woman wears a delicate headpiece, her large earrings in flower shape symbolize her capacity to'listen to others' and in her nose a beautiful gold'nariguera' that was used as a constant reminder of'el peso de la palabra' or the weight of our words, and the responsibility to use them wisely. The shape of the head, considered a trait of beauty, reveals the custom in this group of binding and molding the form of the skull while young. Little is known about these cultures that occupied the area in and near Colombia. The Tumaco and Tolita groups lived on what is today the Colombia/Ecuador border. And their civilizations flourished and faded from 500 BC to about 500 AD. As other groups from Colombia, they were excellent goldsmiths and ceramists, the pieces that have survived are of extraordinary beauty, and interesting in their diferences from other groups. Pieces are characteristically peaceful and serene in expression, and colors are a softer gray, due to the ash content of the clay in that region. As always, because of the abundance of gold in the area, once the Spaniards arrived, whole groups were wiped out to loot the treasures. This group's high point was long before this arrival, but much was lost from burial grounds that could have given clues to their existence. The legend of El Dorado fueled more and more exploration. Even today, burial grounds can be discovered and pillaged, leaving little to study. Ceramics that remain today are from t

This is a reproduction of an original piece from the Tumaco culture. Which flourished between 500 BC and about 500 AD in what is the Pacific coastal area of southwestern Colombia. This particular woman wears a delicate headpiece, her large earrings in flower shape symbolize her capacity to'listen to others' and in her nose a beautiful gold'nariguera' that was used as a constant reminder of'el peso de la palabra' or the weight of our words, and the responsibility ... moreto use them wisely.

T he condition is mostly good. Showing great age and wear overall, with a heavy green patina, about 25 x 16 x 40 mm(over 1-1/2 inches) in size. This is a really great looking example of symbolic imagery used for weaponry(as it is) but may look even better with very careful cleaning( Please check the dimensions. Most photographs have been enlarged, and may look larger than the size of the actual items. Colors may appear somewhat ... moredifferent in the viewer’s computer than the item is in person. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false We welcome INTERNATIONAL SALES. If you have questions. striking! I really don’t have a lot of information about this carved statue. It looks to be in the Olmec style and appears to be quite old. I think the material might be Mexican onyx or maybe alabaster. Or it could be something else. The head is a little large. With a bulbous shape in the back. The ears are pierced. As well as the corners of the mouth and he is wearing a simple loincloth. Approximate Measurements: 9”H x 3½”W In good condition for its age. The arms are broken off. But are included and can be re-attached. Also. There are a few bruises/abrasions on the surface. interesting! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PAYMENT We accept the following forms of payment: Paypal Pay with credit cards or other PayPal funds. Patojo Pot from Ometepe Island. Nicaragua-Nicaro Culture 800-1200 A.D Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This is a rare"patojo" pot from Ometepe Island. Nicaragua and made around 1000 years ago by the Nicaro culture(a branch of the Greater Nicoya Culture) Ometepe Island is located in Lake Nicaragua and it's name means two volcanoes. This is an interesting and rare piece of pre-Columbian pottery that it is decorated in the form of a guinea pig with eyes on either side and a snout at the tip of the pot. A"patojo" pot is called this because it is commonly made in the shape of a shoe, which is pronounced"patojo" in Spanish. These were made by pre-Columbian cultures all over the Americas and the reason for this is that these pots allowed the user to dip into the warm contents from the pot while the ... moreelongated end of the pot rested in a classic"comal" style oven. This anthropomorphic vessel has marks that represent the hair on the animal and that change at the tip to fit the face of the creature. This pot measures 6 3/4" X 4 3/4" with a height of 4" and the mouth of this pot is 3" wide. This piece has only got ships to the flared rim which still has red pigment on the top and seems to have black pigment on the underside. On the bottom of this piece the hash marks stop and on it are a collector's numbers. International buyers pay full cost of shipping. Whatever that might be. Please see my other auctions for more artifacts. Thanks for Looking!

Here is a Mayan eccentric or exotic from the Yucatan Peninsula of South America. These items were thought to have been used as an offering to the underworld gods asking their premission to enter their underworld domain(a cave) The Maya could then ask a blessing or maybe advice on some delima they were facing. This one appears to be of a snake which held high ranking in many parts of thier culture. A very rare item that comes from my personal frame of eccentrics. It's 3 1/4 inch long and 1 in. wide x 1/4 in thk. at max. made of a light white or tan Chalcedony or Colha chert patinated with white over the ages. A really nice piece worthy of anyones collection!
