The blade is much older. And dates back several hundred years. The sword blade was made during the koto pariod. And is signed with two characters, and dates back to before 1596. The blade shows it was used in battle. And has survived with only small chips which will come out when it's polished. ITEM MEASUREMENTS The tang measures about 6 3/4" long and the cutting edge measures about 22 1/2" long. This is a Japanese sword wakizashi in mountings. The blade is signed"Masamune 政宗" Shinogi-zukuri shape. Muromachi period ca.1550 era made Shimada school blade. The blade is in old polish, no rust, no stain and in excellent condition. The temper line is attractive hitatsura(full) temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep turn back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, no forging flaws and in good condition. It is rested in old bamboo shape ho-wood mountings. Handle is relacquered, no dent, no crack, no loose and in good condition. It measures 17" cutting edge, 1" width, 4.5mm thickness at the notch and 26+1/2" in mountings.

Temper(Ha) and Hada keeps fantastic condition. Especially Hamon style id really fantastic looks like bright cloud. It has 3.35 width and 0.8cm thickness. So it is heavy weight appearance. I bought this a while ago for my personal collection but now i must sell it. a little info on the sword that was given to me when i bought it: Extremely thick. Heavy, Samurai mounted Shinto period Wakizashi: Nakago has been shortened but some of the signature is intact. The owners name is in the first column- Bushū ju Higuchi. The second column would be a date column for Anei(c. 1772) and may be part of a cutting test or other special inscription. The back is the start of"Soshu" 21 5/8 inch cutting edge, wide suguha/midare hamon in ko nie tight ko itame to muji hada, no flaws, 80% polish, Copper habaki, 2 5/8 x 2 7/8 4 lobbed iron tsuba, copper seppa ... moreand mismatched copper with floral design fuchi/kashira, matched floral shakudo and gold menuki, black ito, black lacquered saya. This sword is 1 3/8 inch at the hamachi and 3/8 inch thick across the mune. this is a BIG blade for a wakizashi. NTHK npo papers to 5th generation Tsuna Hiro. Received 74 points at shinsa. Overall condition is low excellent. This is a really big blade. when you hold it in your hand you can feel the difference immediately compared to the average Wakizashi. at it thickest it is 3/8ths" thick. Thats almost a half an inch thick( im not talking wide- thickness) has beautiful matching Menuki with black and gold floral design and a grasshopper on one of them. The Tsuba is a old iron Tsuba with a very simple floral design. It is signed by Ichiri. Blade is very nice with a very wide Hamon or temper line going straight down the blade. Saya is in very nice condition. Comes with the NTHK papers and english translation sheet. You can find WWII blades around but it is getting harder to find the true older blades and especially a papered sword. papering a sword is not cheap and you can normally only get it done about 2 times a year when the Japanese come to the U

Antique Named Japanese Wakizashi Tanto Samurai Sword W/Scabbard Dated 1626
I was fortunate enough to pick this 400+ year old Tanto Sword and Superb Wooden Scabbard with brass trim at an estate sale in East San Diego County. An acquaintance of mine happens to be a premier dealer of asian antiques and has extensive knowledge and research books at his disposal. He was kind enough to decipher the Mei(signature) from the Nakago(tang) section of the blade which was well marked. It is a Shinto Period Tanto. From the Kan-ei era(2) which puts its manufacture at 1626. The entire unmounted blade and tang measures 15 15/16" the blade from spacer to tip measures 12 5/8" The Hamon(tempered line) is discernible. The Silver Fuchi(collar) has a tiny flap of silver which is present but needs to be readhered, I will leave this small job to the collector who purchases the sword. Pre 1900 Japanese Wakizashi signed Rai Kunimitsu of Kyoto year 1326-1329. Considered my some to be the most famous Smith of all time. His work is on display in the Imperial Museum in Japan. The sword has its original Tsuka and Saya. The wood has a few small cracks from drying over the Centurys. Blade is in V.G. Plus condition in old polish. Not sure when the Buddist Sanskrit was added. But by judging the wear on the Sanskrit and the amount of times the blade has been polished in its life, it seems consistant with time of manufacture. I cannot find or see any nicks in the blade. Blade has a sign named- Kanewaka- Authenticity of the name is unknown since there is no certification but it is very good work of smith. Blade is polished. Temper(Ha) and Hada keeps extra wonderful and beautiful condition though there is aged wound in one part. It has 3.2cm width. Shirosaya and Habaki is new making. So it is fit perfectly.
