About this sword: This is a very nice wakizashi by Aizu Masanaga. He was the father of the Miyoshi Nagamichi amd was active around 1624. Masanaga is famous for being a student of Umetada Myoju like Hizen Tadayoshi. He is a highly regarded maker at the Jo Saku level and is ranked at Wazamono for the cutting ability of his swords. This blade is in good old polish and does not need restoration. It has a few ware in the shinogi-ji. These are minor and not a problem for the blade. This comes with a nicely made antique silver foil double habaki and deluxe shirasaya. This also has 2013 NBTHK Hozon Paper. A very desirable ubu zaimei Jo saku work.

Original antique forged iron HAZAMA utsushi Tsuba. Design fans Zustand/ condition: Material: Eisen/ iron Alter/ age: Edo. Ca 18.19. Jhdt. Höhe/ height: 80mm Breite/ width: 80mm Dicke/ thickness: 3.5mm Sonstige Merkmale: Geschmiedeter Stahl. Möglicherweise späte Hazama-Schule, Applikationen silber od. sahari/ forged steel, possibly late Hazama-school. Silver/ sahari applications Der Zustand ist für das Alter gut. Die Oberfläche weist eine intakte dunkelbraune Patina ohne aktivem Rost auf. Das Tsuba ist sehr sorgfältig gearbeitet und trägt Applikationen in Silber bzw. Sahari. Die Applikationen haben einen dunkle. Blauschwarze Patina und sind nur unter bestimmten Lichtverhältnissen klar zu sehen. The state can be described as good. The surface shows an intact dark brown patina without active rust. The tsuba is very skillfully done and wears applications made of silver or sahari. The applications are dark black/blueish patinated. They are only clear to see under specific lighting conditions. The tsuba has a very long lasting bright sound and corresponds to the Hazama-school(demonstration of caducity by deliberately aged surface and motive) in design and other features. It is most likely a Hazama utsushi in very high quality. Please judge from the pictures! All in all a very rare high quality sword guard in good condition, which can be mounted on a katana. Japanese WWll Army pilot, tank crew's sword wakizashi "Sadahiro"
This is a Japanese WWll Army pilot or tank crew's sword in mountings. The blade is signed"Hojoji Minamoto Sadahiro 法城寺源貞廣" Shinogi-zukuri shape. Muromachi period ca.1700 era made old family blade. The blade is in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust and in good condition. There is no nick, no crack temper and cutting edge is sharp. The temper line is wavy chu-suguha temper throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is itame-hada. No forging flaws. The scabbard is leather covered wood scabbard, shows aged wear but no cut, no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit with gold inlay fuchi, tsuka-ito wrapping. Menuki and kashira are not presented. Tsuba is marugata shape gold inlay iron tsuba with nice patina. The sword is a Shinto wakizashi made by the famous swordsmith Omi no Kami Tsuguhira. The blade and the mountings are in MINT condition. The sword has a blade length of 22 inches(56cm) It features a shinogi-zukuri construction with stout curvature. The hada is a well-implemented and visible ko-mokume with prevalent ji nie. The hamon is a Soshu-style notare midare that is present ... morethe length of the blade ending in a midare boshi. The hamon is made of profuse nie and there are activities like ashi. Nie hotsure. And yubashiri in and around the hamon. The tang is signed Omi no Kami Fujiwara Tsuguhira. Tsuguhira was a line of well-known smiths working from Echizen province in the late 1600s to early 1700s as part of the Yasutsugu school. This sword is by the Shodai. Or first generation, Tsuguhira who worked ca. 1670 and was highly regarded, ranked Jo Saku by Fujishiro. The blade also comes with NBTHK Hozon papers attetsting to the authenticity and quality of the blade. The blade comes in shirasaya mountings. They are in MINTY condition. The saya has a sayagaki on both sides. The mountings also include a shakudo foiled habaki. The blade is in MINT condition and was professionally restored in Japan. There are no nicks. No rust, few scratches, and no forging flaws. There do not appear to be any major flaws like hagire. Given the high degree of craftsmanship displayed and the condition. Nice Old mounts with original shark skin saya covered with WWII Style combat leather cover. 17th-early 18th century BLADE signed by KUNIMASA. Overall sword length is 30 inches. Blade length from Tsuba to tip is 19 1/2 inches. The blade is out of polish but still very nice and solid with no nicks or damages and with some scratches and dark spots. Very solid and heavy blade. This is a Japanese sword wakizashi dagger in mountings. The blade is signed"Soshu ju Masahiro 相州住正廣" Shinogi-zukuri shape. Muromachi period ca. 1550 era made blade. The blade is in old polish, no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome temper pattern throughout the blade and has turn back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, no forging flaws at all. It is mounted in old urushi lacquered mountings. No dent, no crack, no lacquer loss and in good condition. This original and old hand-made Japanese sword. Or Nihonto. Brought back from WWII looks to be a Shinto wakizashi that is a boy's day sword and is samurai-mounted. The blade and the mountings are in Very Good condition. The sword has a blade length of approx. 14 inches. It features a ko-kissaki and narrow width indicating it is likely a boy's day sword. The hada looks to be itame with some straight masame. The hamon is a thick suguha that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. The tang is signed Shiro Taru Mitsukazu in a well-chiseled script. Mitsukazu was a swordsmith working ca. 1780 in Yamashiro province. The blade comes in Samurai mountings. They are in Very Good condition. The tsuka features a black wrap. The menuki are of gourds and an animal. The tsuba is copper with a tiger and bamboo theme. There are two ... moreaccompanying seppa. This is an example of an old antique Japanese Samurai Wakizashi Sword Blade which dates from the Shinto Period. The blade tang was at one time altered in order to be fitted into a police short sword housing. The blade wears a cutting edge of 18 1/2 inches in length and measures from tip to tip measures 23 5/8 inches in length. Regardless of the altering of the tang. This blade does remain very nice in condition and does continue to wear a lovely actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. J Japanese sword wakizashi in handachi mountings "Hiroshige"
This is a Japanese sword in handachi mountings. The blade is signed"Bushu Shitahara ju Hiroshige 武州下原住廣重" Shinogi-zukuri shape. Edo period ca. 1680 era made blade. The blade is in old polish, shows light staines, fine scratches but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy chu-suguba temper pattern throughout the blade and has turn back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, no forging flaws at all. It is mounted in old lacquered handachi mountings. No dent, no crack, no lacquer loss and in good condition. Handle is tight fit with matched iron fuchi/kashira. Handle wrapping shows minor wear but no loose and in good condition. Tsuba is kuwagata shape iron handachi tsuba with nice patina. Splendid wakizashi in excellent polish as well as koshirae. The ubu nakago@ 4 59/64" 12.5cm) is signed Wakasa Ju Ujifusa. The 20 11/16" 52.55cm) shinogi-zukuri blade is powerfully constructed with a generously proportioned kissaki and an ellegant sori of 19/32" 1.5cm) The hada is itame with masame in the habuchi.Very finely expressed. The polish is not new but remains fresh. Though a bit low key with the gentle notare restraining the kawazu choji beneath. In full light the steel appears to be aflame. There is much to be appreciated in this blade. there is only one small nick to the edge(not recent) near the copper habaki(see image) a small scuff near the boshi. Otherwise. The condition is perfect. The Koshirae is in true stalwart Samurai taste with a roiro lacquered saya with a simple navy blue sageo. The tsuka has white same ... morewrapped in golden straw colored ito over yamagane& gold flowers. The menuki are slightly revealed with the style of tsukamaki. The fuchi kashira are ishime shibuichi of warm grey with flowers on the fuchi and an exquisite takabori iroe cricket crowns the kashira. The sentoku sukashi tsuba is in the motif of a water dragon grasping the jewel of knowledge and is signed Toshikazu saku. This is an authentic Japanese wakizashi in very good condition. This sword is very high quality and was made specially for a samurai or other high ranking member of the warrior class. This wakizashi dates back to inbetween 1500-1600. This places it either in the middle of the Sengoku period or at the start of the Edo period. The Edo period is famous for its samurai and their decorated blades. The steel blade is still very sharp and shows several nicks from battle. The hamon line is still very distinct and there is plenty of room for this blade to be repolished and restored. The habaki or blade collar is made of copper and silver. Antique Japanese Wakizashi Sword 14th Century! NO RESERVE!
Let me start by saying I'm not a sword expert or collector so I will do my best to describe this sword to you in terms I can relate. I have had 2 local collectors(experts) and 1 nationally known dealer/appraiser/expert review the sword.This is a Wakizashi sword in a newer saraya(storage scabbard) Generally they all concur the sword is authentic. The signature is so old it can barely be read in parts but it appears the sword is late 14th century or early 15th Century. Mikawa Province and made for the Minamoto clan. It's possible the swordsmith was Sukemitsu, but again because of the age the signature cannot be completelly read. It appears to be Miuromachi Period(1384-1574) Appearance and other indications lead to the approximate period around 1384 or so. Overall length of the blade is just under 24" the curve of the blade is 1" ... moreit has a older re polish on it and there are some pit marks on the blade as well as a small chip on the blade edge. The temper line is excellent. There are 4 marks in the tang close to the cutting edge start that are unknown. The piece just in front of the handle is silver. Because of the experts"best guess" analogy, do not hesitate to ask me any questions and I will do my best to get you an answer.
