Wakizashi Sword with fascinating bullet wound from Meiji Ishin
I have bought this Wakizashi many years ago from a reputable seller on eBay(daimyou54eb) The condition of the blade is that there are some small flaws. It is an old-sharpened blade. The hamon is strong(Gunome choji but I might be wrong) It has a shirasaya. What makes this wakizashi so special is that there is an old bullet wound. Which probably occurred during the Meiji Restoration. The bullet hit the shinogi-ji and was deflecting, very likely saving the life of the samurai owner. This antique blade has a beautiful tight leather wrapped ray-skin Tsuka(handle) with a blade measuring 12-1/8" in length from the Tsuba(handguard) to the tip of the blade and measures 16-1/16" in length from tip of the blade to end of Nakago(tang) The Nakago does have the smith's Mei(signature) Comes with a carved wood Saya(scabbard) that shows some moderate chipping the the finish. The Ha(blade edge) shows some notches and wear from striking. The blade overall shows some moderate scratching and some light oxidation. Measures about 1/4" thick at the Mune. After consulting some collector's and professionals about this particular blade. I was given the loose interpretation of its ... morehistory; keep in mind this is what they believe it could be, not a verified appraisal. It looks like it reads(The Signature) Choshu Ju Fujiwara Kiyoshige(Fujiwara Kiyoshige of Choshu province[modern day Yamaguchi prefecture] Found a Kiyoshige in Fujishiro's shinto hen. Listed as chu-jo saku" Another opinion: Though it looks like some of the characters match those in the signature you have been quoted. According to Hawley's Japanese Swordsmiths. All of these smiths are rated 10- 15 points in Hawley which is roughly equivalent to chu jo saku in Fujishiro's book. Original and nice WWII Japanese Army Officers Wakizashi size Shin-Gunto Sword and Scabbard. This sword is rare in that it was manufactured with a traditionally made wakizashi size blade. Handle. Tsuba, habaki, and seppa fittings are original to the sword, all fittings including the tsuba are numbered"99" and remain in excellent condition. The blade remains in nice condition, cutting edge measures 21 inches in length, has only a few virtually un-noticeable nail snaggers, and its hamon is visible along the cutting edge. The tang is not signed. Scabbard is original to the sword, is un-dented, and remains in excellent condition. This scabbard was positively made for this sword as no other sword would fit, and really the only defect if you want to call it one is the scabbard lock is not working. 400 Year Old Soshu School Wakizashi signed Kunishige in Saya Horse Menuki
Offering a nice soshu period Wakazashi with saya. It measures overall 22 inches with a 13 inch cutting edge. The tang is signed Kunishige with very clear file marks. This item was brought back from the South Pacific Theater by an American G.I. It has a sharkskin or ray wrapped tuska with brown/gold ito and matching horse menuki and a bronze tsuba. A nicely detailed fuchi and Kashira that looks finely crafted. The habaki is copper with nice file work. The scabbard is black lacquer and is solid though it shows wear and could use restoration of the finish. Overall a nice piece. I sent this blade to a professional polisher for a preservation polish and sharpening. It has a beautiful original temper line and no problems to speak of. I have a japanese samurai sword wakizashi with 18 inch blade and documentation. the blade has some spots of surface crust. Not pitted or deep, it will clean off easy, i wiped a small area and it cleaned fine, i just dont want to touch the rest and leave it up to the discretion of the buyer. the letter is from the clasical arts centre dates 2002 and speaks of its quality guarenteed and it dates it 130-150 years old. puts it about 1860. these early swords are hard to find. even though this is chinese origin this sword is made excellent and of top quality. hard to find these old swords with any letters stamped and sealed like this one. cheers

Japanese wakizashi sword handle and fittings, 19th century
Sword handle with accompanying parts for wakizashi sword. A rather plain'working-model' piece. It is nevertheless highlighted with gold and silver work. The sword guard/ tsuba(and other fittings) is of an unembellished metal. Most likely shakudo which is a combination of copper and gold: 96-90% copper 4-10% gold. The handle-grip ornament/ menuki is of 14c gold and depicts a shishi(his back leg is a bit crushed) Unfortuntately only one remains. The right side one long gone. The butt cap/ kashira is of undecorated metal while the grip’s metal sleeve/ fuchi is ornamented all'round with a design of plum blossoms with bamboo underneath formed in gold and silver. Vintage Japanese wakizashi short-sword that was brought back after WWII by a US veteran as per pictures. The blade is not signed and is dark and has some light pits in spots but smooth metal and you can still see the temper-line(it is an irregular wavy type) if you hold the blade at an angle. The scabbard is covered in old masking-tape. The handle is complete and wrapping is good. Both menuki's are present, the fuchi and kashera are matching plain copper. Tsuba is plain smooth iron type and is signed. This is a Japanese sword in honzukuri mountings. The blade is signed" Seishu Kuwana Uemonjyo Fujiwara Mura(masa) 勢州桑名 右ヱ門尉 藤原村( 正） and"Bunki 3nen Hachigatsu Hi 文亀三年八月日. Shinogi-zukuri shape, Muromachi period ca.1503 made blade. There were several generations Muramasa( 村正) and this Muramasa( 村正)is The First generation. The blade is in old polish. Shows no scratches on surface but no rust and in very good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with n(chrystal) active temper throughout the blade and has deep o-maru temper at the point.
