The temperline is Sanbonsugi hamon. A very fine pattern developed in the 16th century by Kanemoto. The activities are truly fantastic with fully packed activities. Lot of Nie crystals, Sunagashi, Inazuma, elegant peaks and valleysm very dense and flamboyant temperline that is very scarce and desirable and hard to find, especialy on a minty blade. The grain work is also very good and healthy. Not overpolished blade, the tip is elegant with a fine clearly visible boshi also full of nice activities and shape. The tang has 2 holes and unsigned with nice patination. Although it is unsigned there is sayagaki in the shirasaya. A judgment by the master polisher. Although I did not have time to have it translated fully it is clear that it states the blade was made by Katsukuni. The Katsukuni smiths were well known for being skilled at creating the famous sanbonsugi hamon. The Edo koshirae is great. The old saya has kaeritsuno(horn hook) too, the lacquer is good with minor dings from use. The double copper habaki in nicely filed and heavily gold washed. The copper tsuba has nice open theme and the rim is gold washed also. The tsuka has good old rayskin and tight ito. Finely detailed inlayed copper menukies in the shape of bulls, good iron fuchi and kashira also. Nothing rattles. Very nice sword. It also comes with copy of japanese registration card along with the shirasaya set too. Highly recommended sword made to high standard. Antique Koto Horimono Japanese Sword Samurai Wakizashi Katana in Koshirae
For sale is this authentic antique Koto period japanese wakizashi sword set. The 15-16th century shobu zukuri( Most notable is the absense of a yokote(border line between the tip and the cutting edge) and a graceful. Curved slicing tip that was used to great effect against the Mongol leather armor during their attempted invasions in the 13th century AD" blade has a very nice and elegant sharp looking shape. Nice curvature also. The blade is in old traditional japanese polish with sharp edge. There is a little rust and noticable forging flaw. The temperline is very pleasing gunome midare hamon with well defined activities and forms. There is ashi,kinsuji line, brush strokes etc. fine koto style hamon. The mokume hada forging grain pattern is also nice looking and easy to see. Blade is 25 3/4" total length. 21" cutting edge, 1 1/32"wide just over 7/32" thick blade curve is about 1/2" the blade appears to be straight. point is intact. Temper line is Flame style and varies from 1/4" to 1/2" down length and around tip. Blade has areas of very light spider rust. Bade looks to have been folded many times as many lamination's can be seen in it's surface. Overall length of the sword is 31" assembled. Handle and blade and saya are a good fit, Menuki are dragons and fitting lotus flower. Tsuba Iron hand made. Saya/ sheath is 21 3/4" long and has been repaired. This authentic Japanese Wakizashi sword in koshirae. This nicely curved light and swift 18th century shinshinto blade is in good polish showing strong vivid hamon and boshi. The condition of the blade is also good, no noticable crack or flaw, rust etc. The blade has some fighting marks on the side of the mune(top side of the blade) These are called honour marks and not considered a flaw, also some tiny nail catchers on the edge, nothing big or deep. Those days in crowded towns self protection was crucial. And fast to draw, light, medium sized sharp blades were the best choice for urban fight and self defense against sudden attack, this blade certainly done its job well judging from the marks left behind. The tang is signed: Iga(no) kami Kinmichi He was the 6th generation of Kinmichi from Mishina school. Working from 1770's. The Edo koshirae ... moreis very good and unique in some features. The saya is covered with compressed leather and lacquered to black, the top area has nice red stripes ribbed and lacquered, this is a unique way for a saya, it has a better grip this way for sure. The saya has a realy nice butt fitting called kojiri made from copper nicely decorated with flower theme but the best thing is that it is delicately signed also, which is especialy rare. I strongly believe this sword was a special custom order to high quality. The tsuba is good strong iron piece with great 3 dimensional dragon and clouds theme. The fuchi and kashira is also of high quality raised out dragon theme, very good pieces hard to find. The menukies are nicely worked also with rats, the ito is strong and good, the habaki seems to be restored or newly made by professional. An interesting unique Shinshinto sword with great features. You are bidding on an 1831 custom special order Nakayama Yoshikazu Wakizashi dated to the second year of Tenpo. Nakayama Yoshikazu corresponds with the Tenpo dating. This blade is a very well made special order by a very talented smith! That this is a special order increases the value, and it looks like the fuchi-kashira(pieces on the ends of the handle) are Higo kinko(soft metal from Higo province) which are very desirable. This is a Japanese Meiji Naval sword wakizashi in Kyu-Kaigunto mountings. The blade is signed"Bishu Osafune Munemitsu 備州長船宗光" old family blade. Shinogi-zukuri shape, muromachi ca.1550 era made blade. The blade is in old full polish. No rust, no stain and in excellent condition. The temper line is wavy notare temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep turn-back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada and no forging flaws. There is no bend. No nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The blade is mounted in Naval kyu-kaigunto mountings pattern 1896, scabbard is black leather covered wood scabbard, no cut, no lacquer loss, no dent, no bend and in good condition. Up for bidding is this full tang and fully functional fantasy version of the Japanese WAKIZASHI sword. This sword sports a SHARP 440 stainless blade of about 18" and the overall length of the sword is 25 an 1/5" One side of blade has Japanese characters. There no other marking on the blade. The guard is made of heavy thick black steel. There is a gold or brass washer where the blade meets the guard with TAIWAN stamped on it. The sheath is of hollow metal tube with a crackle paint finish. The sword fits tight in it. There is few spots on the sheath tip where to finish chipped off. Please see the photos. For sale is a very nice older Koto Wakizashi in full polish. Mumei. No signature. No obvious signs of shortening. This wakizashi is a beautiful blade in full polish with a very interesting choji/ kataochi gunome or a hako ba hamon. I've never seen anything like it. In areas there are flames leaping off the hamon. It has a beautiful Sashikomi polish which does not obscure any of the hamon details. Extremely tight hada, looks like ko mokume under a bright light but it is almost an itame hada. Iron koshirae. Higo designed, with gold and silver inlay. The kashira has gold, the fuchi silver, and the tsuba both gold and silver. The habaki is a silver washed two part copper habaki. Original saya, fits like a glove with no rattle. Total edge length is 17.5 inches. 24 inches total.

This is a Japanese Wakizashi Sword in mountings. The blade is signed and has Three holes and it looks to be shortened sometime ago. The blade is in old polish, no rust, no bend, no forging flaw and has a beautiful wavy temper pattern throughout the blade. Although I see few tiny nail catcher on the blade and small spot stain from its aged but otherwise in excellent healthy condition. It has an old Iron tsuba with nice design, Scabbard has a black lacquered wood with covered metal on the tip. handle is tight and all in very good condition. Antique Japanese Samurai Sword Wakizashi Rare Mount Fuji Hamon Antique Japanese wakizashi(17- 18 century) with koshirae and kozuka knife. The blade has a rare Mount Fuji(Fujiyama) hamon and shows pronounced activities in the steel. There is a nice boshi in the tip and polisher signature(nagashi) on both sides. Polish is excellent and the blade is very healthy. Except for a few small openings in the grain and few specs that didn’t polish out. Mune and shinogiji are burnished and so they appear shinier than the rest of the blade. The blade is very sharp. Tsuka has nice silk ito and good quality fittings. Saya is coated in traditional urushi lacquer and displays a very interesting pattern(Shuroge Nuri) There are few hairline cracks that were repaired and stabilized at some point. Antique kozuka handle is fitted with a modern-made blade. The ... morehandle has a small crack at the mouth that is visible in one of the pictures. There is an iron tsuba(2 3/4" in diameter) with partially preserved gold inlays and a high-quality antique copper habaki with the falling rain pattern. Grain is clearly visible mostly itame hada. The boshi has kaen and is healthy. Beautiful dragon horimono on one side and ken sword on the other. Whats unusual about this blade is the wide bohi that runs along both sides, measure 1/2" wide(i've never seen a bohi that wide before) The tang has dark black rust with nice patina and is ubu(uncut) with two holes(mekugi ana) and looks like a partial hole on the one side? Comes with nice gold foil habaki with polisher mark underneath. This blade is health for a koto piece from mid 1300's to mid 1400's.

The use of sharpening stones or(heaven forbid) a grinding wheel can cause the total destruction of the sword from a collectors standpoint. It takes special training skill and tools to properly polish and sharpen the sword. 2 Do not use sandpaper. Steel wool or any abrasive materials on any part of the blade including the tang(nakago) These will scratch the blade and detract from its beauty. 3 Do not use ANY type of metal polish on the parts of the sword handle. Guard or scabbard. The fittings on the sword are generally not supposed to be bright and shiny. 4 Do not handle the blade with bare hands. The oils and acids from your skin can cause the blade to rust(in some cases it may stain almost immediately) Use a clean cloth around the blade to handle it. 5 Whenever one draws a mounted sword out of its bag or scabbard. Make sure the position of the hilt does not go lower than the scabbard. SWORD MAINTENANCE- HOW TO PREVENT RUST Rust is the major enemy of the Japanese sword blade.
