Cutting down the handle into a nasal guard(or removing/replacing it) and adding a liner, this would make a passable Viking or Saxon helmet as is. Adding some leather strips around the rim and as if covering section joints, could be done even without any metal working tools or skills. With even minimal metalcraft skills, you could add some simple metal pieces to turn this into just about any sort of round-topped helmet. e.g. add a front plate with cut-outs to make a spangle helm, or attach side pieces, or drill small holes around the sides and back of the rim to attach mail. As mentioned. It is plated. Its got some light scuffs and scratches, and a slight goldish patina in some areas, but the plating is all intact. This is a really nice steel form that someone with a bit of creativity can make into a great helmet.

You are looking at a beautiful dark purple amethyst set of 6 footed sherbet/dessert cups made by New Martinsville/Viking Crystal. They hold about 4 oz. stand about 3" high and have a diameter of about 2.5" This pattern has been discontinued. They are in excellent condition with no sign of use. Even though they've been stored in my kitchen cabinet of my clean, non-smoking home for about 15 years. No chips. Cracks or nicks. The amethyst glass is a rich dark royal purple. I personally would not call this black amethyst. Because they are obviously deep purple without holding them to the light. But they are definitely dark. There are no chips. Cracks or scratches.The compote is 4 1/4" tall including the pedestal, and is 7" across the top at it's widest point. The candle holders are 2 3/4" tall including the pedestal and are 4 3/4" across the top at their widest point.This is a lovely set for glass collectors or a nice set for gift giving.
