Katana-Size, Late Muromachi (1550s) Heianjo Tsuba, Excellent Condition
An authentic late Muromachi period(mid to late 1500s) Japanese Heainjo Tsuba(sword guard) Made of iron and decorated with brass and copper inlay, in excellent condition. Brass and copper inlay is present all around the rim as well as on the surfaces of the tsuba. This tsuba is: 7cm(2.75" high, 7cm(2.75" wide and 5 mm(0.2" thick. The tsuba is in excellent shape with a very nice, dark brown patina, and remnants of old lacquer can be seen. The square shape is unusual. And the motif is perplexing but wonderful, giving a pleasing feeling flowing wind and water. This very attractive Heianjo tsuba dates to the late Muromachi period(~450 years old) It is in exceptional shape for such an old tsuba. There are no cracks and no rust.
