Up for auction is a well-traveled and purpose-built antique leather trunk. This trunk chest features real brass hardware with working latch closure. Reinforced leather corners, interesting nail head detail and real flat copper rivets. It is a very sturdy, well-constructed trunk which also has four inner metal braces to make it more crush-resistant, along with a green twill cotton liner throughout. Please look at all the photos to get a sense for the used condition of this antique trunk chest. The trunk has two clasps at its front where a leather handle was likely affixed at one time. In addition. One of the leather seams across the back side has pulled away slightly as shown, but does not detract from the piece as it is on the backside. Found this trunk while clearing out an old house in Washington DC. I don't know anything about it so the information here represents my best guess based on information I could find on-line and by looking at the trunk. It has one side made up of 5 fabric covered drawers(one with a lock) and the opposite side for hanging clothes. It appears to be a wardrobe trunk made by Albert Rosenhain Berlin. There are a few markings on the outside of the trunk- a red stripe and some initials. It has metal tacks and hardware. One original hanger that bears a tag with the"Albert Rosenhain" name and a metal hanger(which may or may not be original) The interior cloth is army green. Covering the outside of the wardrobe section is an integral hanging garment bag with a zipper made from the same army green fabric. AJAX AUTO TRUNK ANTIQUE CAR STORAGE UNIT AUTOMOBILE TRUCK ACCESSORY~1918
This is an awesome vintage Ajax Auto Trunk! A great antique car storage unit for someone who wants to fix it up a little! Old advertisements for this trunk can be found from the 1918s! This trunk is close to 100 years old! The hinges on the lid are still in good condition and workable. The flip-down locks on the front are stiff but open and close well. The center lock no longer works- looks like someone had to"break and enter" as it is slightly bent and the lock mechanism is missing. There are heavy leather handles on the side that are still in very good condition. Above these handles are eye hooks to attach and hold the trunk still. There are decorative rivets holding the steel in place on all the edges. It looks like a few of them have been replaced over the years. All the outside hardware has rust on it. The black outside material ... moreis canvas-leather like. Not sure what it is but there are some rips and showing underneath is wood.There are small holes on the sides and bottom. Maybe this was used for bootlegging at one time? It looks like the bottom could have been nailed down to something as there are small nails that stick up on the inside. Neat old black and white wallpaper type material on the inside of the lid and in the three cubby-holes on the right side. Very spacious measuring approx. 29" long x 15" high. The largest space on the inside measures 24" wide x 11" Each of the cubbyhole spaces measures approx. 4" x 3 1/4 to 3 3/4" with the center space being the smallest. The inside is lined in a canvas type material. I will say there is a very strong mildew smell on the inside. It is dirty inside too- this is definately in need of some TLC! It looks like someone added leather and snaps to the inside of the lid to hold things.the leather is light colored and newer looking. One of these straps is broken. The original leather strap that holds the lid open is scuffed and worn but still works for the purpose. Overall this is a nice vintage trunk with a condition commensurat

Original LV Steamer Trunk from the early 1900's. No attempt has been made to clean or restore this trunk. All latches and handles are in good shape. And has the original key. Many tags, stickers and markings from a lot of ship travel. There are stains to the quilting and some of the ribbons are detaching. There are some cracks in the leather banding, but it is in great shape for its age!

Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. This is an auction for an antique vulcanized fiber trunk/case. Since I originally posted this auction I have learned about what this item actually is. What I thought was leather was really vulcanized fiber. It was probably produced in the the 1920's and was used for shipping/mailing items like clothes or laundry. It has working hinges and solid rivets. The handle has broken and mostly disintegrated. One of the latches works and the other one is missing the buckle. I'm sorry I can't tell you anything about the brand of this case/trunk. There is no label on the interior or exterior. Vintage Embossed Metal Covered Wood Box/Trunk, Horses Pulling Plow Handmade
This large handmade box/trunk is such a great find! It is a solid wood box completely covered in embossed brass colored metal/tin. The design. Which is on the top and front, is a scene of a farmer and his Clydesdale work horses pulling a plow through the field. The sides are an embossed filigree. The metal sheet was cut, embossed and applied to the wood with small nails. There are 2 brass hinges attaching the lid and a safety chain to keep the lid from falling back. This piece measures 20" long. 15" high and 14" wide. It sits on 4 rubber feet which may have been added later. There are some issues with discoloration on the front just above the horses and on one side. Something must have dripped on it and changed the color(see photos) The hinges have rust on them. Antique trunk rounded top hidden storage inside, wood & tin outside, Outstanding
This is an antique trunk that I purchased over 12 years ago from an antique dealer in CT. It has raised metal sides. I believe they are tin. The inside has worn fabric and a hidden trap door. It is a really cool and if I had room I wouldn't part with it. I used it as a coffee table. The measurements are approximately 30 1/2" long X 17 1/2" wide X 20" high. Dated 1794 Massachusetts Leather Covered Trunk
Here we have an early leather covered dome top trunk with the June and July issues of the Massachusetts Magazine lining the inside of it. It measures 26 1/2" X 13 1/2" and 12" tall. It looks to be all original except for perhaps the two hinges. I`m not sure if they are or not, use the pictures to decide and if you have any questions don`t be afraid to ask me. The handles still have the snipe style mounts, and it looks like it might be pine wood under the leather. The leather does have some ragged areas around the edges and where the hinges are, the pictures describe it better than I can in words. The hinges are secure and not stiff or binding. A great looking 1790`s trunk! I`ll ship it but I do prefer if it could be picked up here in Wilbraham, MA 01095, I`m not far from Brimfield, MA if you are planning on attending.
