This is a very old tea caddy by virtue of the crazing on the bottom. The hand painted design goes all around the sides and the top. There are no markings on the bottom. There is gold trim around the top. It is a stunning caddy as the angles are indented. Very pretty to hold anything. I've had it for many years but have no room for it now.

Really one of the finest quality examples I have seen and much nicer than my photos show. The Jar has beautiful Famille Rose Bird Scenic designs, along with turquoise enameled interior making it very practical for use. The Jar also has a nice old patina to the bronze mounts. The Jar is in very fine original condition with some fine glaze lines, light wear and two tiny areas of enamel loss to the lid, all of which is only noticeable upon close inspection. The Jar is a nice size for practical use and displaying measuring 5-1/2 inches tall by 4-1/2 inches wide. You do not see many examples of this very fine quality come up for auction. Likely from 1920s. Tea caddy has incised scenes of birds and flowers, and Chinese calligraphy. A paper label is wrapped around cap of each tea caddy and it has"Ge-man Oolong" and store location printed. The sliding cover of wooden storage box is engraved with name of company"Bei Wan You Quan Tea Company" 北萬有全茶莊) which was established in 1851 and was a major retailer in Shanghai before WWII. Palekh is known for vivid colors with fairy tale themes. In Kholui. Beautiful landscapes are found in the paintings. The boxes from Mystera have similar themes. But the colors may be softer and beautiful skies are often seen. The Fedoskino boxes have a realistic theme with folk dancers and village scenes and often have mother of pearl inlaid. The process of producing boxes- called"shkatulka" is the same today as it was 200 years ago: Pressed paper is turned around a wooden shape of the box. Then dipped in linseed oil and dried for 24 hours. After it has been polished, the box goes to the painter, who colors the large surfaces, then covers them with oil lacquer and lets the box dry. The artist draws the design on the box and uses very fine brushes made of squirrel hair to paint the fine details. From the time a box is painted for the first time. Antique Chinese Japanese Jar Tea Caddy Celadon w Florals Porcelain Pottery V Gd
This is a lovely old lidded tea caddy or condiment jar but not marked and I'm not certain whether it's Japanese or Chinese. The background is celadon and there are numerous little red. Blue, and white raised flowers and buds overall with green foliage and graceful curving narrow black stems. There is a lid and an inner top and the overall measurements are: 4" dia x 6" t. This is sitting on a wooden base which is not original but added later and is not as old as the jar but does go with it in this sale. There is a little bit of glaze buildup around the top of the jar(pic 8) and two very small chips on the inner top which may or may not show up in the pics. There are two little glaze skips on the side of the lid. None of these is distracting and there are no chips, cracks, repairs, discolorations or other to mention. As you can see, the two wood ring handles are missing from either side, and one of the ring holders is broken. There are also a couple of very tiny dings to the corner of the cover. One of the bone knobs is an old replacement, and there are only remnants of the original Zinc Liner left inside the two tea compartments. There are no other problems, or any repairs to this early 19th century Tea Caddy. The inside of the cover is lined in a thin layer of red leather, and the four bun feet are guaranteed to be original. An absolute stunner of a caddy. Really different in a highly decorative bombe shape standing on four bone ball feet and crowned with a folding brass finial. The inlay is exquisite, with Tulip Wood cross-banding and Ebony stringing to edges. The top and front is decorated with Satinwood and Harewood fan paterae and the front with a wonderful garland. The interior reveals a double compartment caddy each with a lid topped with turned bone knobs and Ebony stringing. A wonderfully decorative George III tea caddy made from exotic Harewood with the most exquisite and pretty inlay. A floral garland tied with a bow at the front and the lid with a continuous floral and foliate garland. The lid is cross-banded in Kingwood and framed with Boxwood stringing. Antique English Painted Papier Mache Tea Caddy c.1850
A beautiful and original Papier Mache Tea Caddy dating to around 1850 with wonderful provenance included that a family member had left inside. The caddy is beautifully decorated with hand painted flowers. Peacocks and an Urn, all finished in lavish gilding. All the sides are hand painted and the interior lids show how fresh the painting would have appeared when first made some 170 years ago. The interior of the two tea compartments remain original with the caddy spoon the the owner had used. Two pieces of hand-written paper came with the caddy with some history of the original owner. The caddy belonged to a Mary Harrison born in Hull(England) in 1815 and used it her entire married life, once married to Mr. William Harrison in 1848 which ties in perfectly to the date of the caddy. A EARLY 19th CENTURY REGENCY MAHOGANY& SATINWOOD TEA CADDY Offered for sale is this very attractive fine quality Regency period(circa 1830's) mahogany veneered two compartment tea caddy with unusual removable canisters and oval brass hinged lids; having satinwood edging and a bone lozenger escutcheon. Externally the mahogany has a beautiful rich coloured flame affect grain with a super patina. The original brass stop hinges and lock are present. Please take time to study all the photographs to gain an appreciation of this fine caddy. The caddy is in really good condi tion considering it's age with no major damage. Lo ose/missing veneer. Cracks or splits or restorati on work to the external. I suspect that the handle on the lid may have been rep laced at some time as there are two little filled hole m arks either side. In te rnally the caddy has a nice mahogany finished to the lid and the overall condition is very good; there is one slight crack and small length of edge banding missing at the rear corner of one on the canisters(see photo 10) which is stable and not loose.
