It has a beveled top surface and it features two smooth operating drawers that are well constructed with dovetail joinery and they have very attractive brass handles with fancy hardware. Furthermore, it has beautiful barley twist legs, a box stretcher and lovely bun feet. Since this is an apprentice’s piece it is a very unique and collectable item and it can be conveniently used as a jewelry box. HORNER tag is gone) Spectacular Tiger Oak Sideboard. This beauty has the LIONS or Griffins, the BIZARRE DOLPHINS with the large protruding LIPS, SEASHELL PULLS, and Acanthus Vine and Leaf Decorations. all telling us that this is truly a R.J. Horner! The quality of the carvings is absolutely awesome. The acanthus adorned Lions(Griffins) along the top row of drawers are hauntingly lifelike as Horner was renowned for in all his work. The tiger oak is'top of the line' Of course. All the middle drawers. Doors and bottom FULL WIDTH DRAWER still have their locks and keyhole covers. It appears that one of the early owners wanted to hang a very large painting above this sideboard ... morerather than the mirror that might have been part of the piece. I'm sure this situation was quite common. They also either special ordered the piece with no feet or removed them to make room on the wall for a very tall and wide canvas! We decided to keep this rare find as original as we found it. If desired. Exceptional carved quartered oak American sideboard server---14511
This is a really great quarter sawn oak sideboard server. Circa 1900 American with extensive carving. Overall size of the piece is height 83. Width 48, and depth 24. This piece has been refinished and has a smooth and even finish. Note the beveled mirror(excellent) and the original brass pulls. The carvings are very good and in an overall organic motif. The quartered oak used in this piece is very nice. Unusual fall front drawer on the front. From an estate in Southern Michigan- a very impressive piece. This is positively a stunning 19th century piece sure to be wow! focal point in your home. This is a large impressive sideboard with gorgeous carved scrolls. Finials and beading details as well as the original beautiful brown marble top and the original beveled mirrors and brass hardware. This sideboard/ buffet measures a total height of 84 inches( 7 ft) Height from the floor to the top of the brown marble measures 36 1/2 inches,with a total width of 60 inches and a depth at the base of 24 inches and this pieces weighs approximately 350 lbs. This sideboard does dis-assemble into three pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. The finish is in excellent condition on American made furniture from about 1950. Fruitwood and walnut with matched burl panels. This vintage furniture is strong and solid. The sideboard has a richly figured marble top. There are small scratches and stains. There are also small scratches on the wood top underneath. Measurements are 6' 2" wide, 24" deep and 35" tall. The marble top was added later. China Cabinet measurements are 45" wide. 22" deep and 78" tall. Table measurements are 47" wide. 30" tall, legroom is 25 1/2" underneath and length when closed ... moreis 5' 6. With all four 15" wide leaves with matching skirts or aprons in place, length is 10' 7" total. Six side chairs plus two arm chairs all have the original European tapestry fabric in remarkably fine condition. With minor spots, see photos. It has gorgeous lines with very cool rounded sides and sculptural base design. The sliding doors are also rounded on the ends fitting within the shape of the curved body when closed. The piece features double sliding doors that open to reveal two open storage areas. Each with a single removable shelf. At the middle are 3 spacious drawers for a ton of additional storage. The piece can really take on different looks depending on how you place the doors. If you slide both together off to one side. It was bought from a family who did woodworking. They made beds. Clocks and furniture. This is one of there salesman's samples I assume they made to sell their furniture. The grandmother clock I have is from the early 1930's. It was made by this family of woodworkers. They were also painters. I have had two of their original paintings as well.This piece has a cutting board, two rolling pins, and a broom that goes with the sideboard. Early German Arts and Crafts Oak Sideboard Tile Top
Large German Arts and Crafts four-door oak sideboard. Unique angular design and inlay details. Aged brass handle pulls with vertical sliding bar lock on main doors. Key included. Black inlay is either ebony or rosewood. White inlay dots looks like ivory. Brass H-hinges. Top is inlaid with same dark wood and deep blue tiles. 1 3/4" tall backsplash and side rails. Pull out for additional surface space. Four drawers across top. One with suede lining. Left cabinet has supports for three shelves, but shelves are missing. Center section with one shelf. Right side door hides nine small suede-lined drawers, perfect for silverware storage. Matching tea cart and commode also available. Sideboard stands 41 3/4" tall and is 73" wide. Measured at the widest point. It is 26" deep. Piece is in good condition. Some wear. Wood is cracked ... moreon top in the outcropping on both sides of tile(See picture) and separating within the tile inlay. There is also a large crack in the right side panel. Separation between siderails and backsplash. Pictured. Center back panel has been removed. But is included and has screws for reattaching. Inlay around center latch is missing several ivory pieces. Locks turn, but do not seem to engage. Doors tend to stick. Piece is sturdy and has no structural issues. Please come by and preview this one-of-a-kind piece! Pickup only.
