Kutani Japanese Porcelain Hotei Buddha Satsuma Style Moriage Taisho Era Statue
Kutani Japanese Porcelain Hotei Buddha Satsuma Style Moriage Taisho Era Statue I just purchased this antique Japanese porcelain Hotei/ Buddha figurine from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The piece is characteristic of the fine cast porcelain figures produced in Kutani for export during the Taisho/ early Showa period. The Hotei is very nicely executed with crisp mold and fine embossed detail to his jovial facial features. Robed dress and characteristic bag and fan. The Satsuma style moriage decoration shows rich color and fine detail to the hand applied slip. The piece measures 7 ¼" high, 5 ½" wide and 4 ½" deep. The piece is in excellent condition with no damage, I don't see any slip loss, and only trace surface wear. Vtg 1920's JAPANESE COBALT SATSUMA 10" VASE marked TAIZAN from TAISHO PERIOD
1920's Japanese Cobalt Satsuma 10" Vase Marked"Taizan" 泰山) Beautiful deep cobalt background with a raised enamel floral design. The first generation of Taizan potters worked circa 1673 to 1680. The Taizan kiln appears to have closed around 1894. However in 1895 and 1901 reports have it that Taizan is still working"on a comparatively small scale" The production seems to have been maintained until 9th Taizan(Yohei) died in 1922. Based on the above and the fact that the vase is also marked"Made in Japan" The practice of which started around 1921, that would date this vase from the about 1921 or 1922. No chips or cracks. A few imperfections from when the vase was made on the bottom of the vase. There is a line that encircles the entire vase. I don't know if this was from when the vase was made(most likely) ... moreor a repair to the vase(see 2nd pic) The line is visible in the pictures. ~ From a smoke-free home ~ I ship within 2 business days of cleared payment ~

Japanese Kutani Satsuma 7 Gods Gold Highlighted 9-inch Vase
The Shichifukujin(7 lucky gods) are an eclectic group of deities from Japan. India, and China. Only one is native to Japan( Ebisu) and Japan's indigenous Shintō tradition. Three are from the Hindu-Buddhist pantheon of India( Daikokuten. Bishamonten. Benzaiten) and three from Chinese Taoist-Buddhist traditions( Hotei. Jurōjin. Fukurokuju) In Japan. They travel together on their treasure ship( Takarabune) and visit human ports on New Year's Eve to dispense happiness to believers. Each deity existed independently before Japan's"artificial" creation of the group. Today. Images of the seven appear with great frequency in Japan. For a description of the seven. MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE Edo / Meiji Period 1800's Ceramic
MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE Exceptionally Fine Hand Painting with Magnificent Raised Gilding Exquisite mid 1800's Japanese Satsuma Vase. Beautiful on all sides with superb hand decoration depicting an imperial lady clad in a stunning kimono gazing out into her garden. While her courtesan brings her a golden bowl of tea. Masterful attention to detail in the silk brocades, individual flower petals, flowing draperies, floor tiles, Asian architecture, hundreds of tiny gold pinpoint sized dots, etc. Too much to list, please see eleven photos for all the museum quality artistry. The reverse is equally sublime with an elegant naturescape of flowers, clouds, and sculptural rocks set before a gently flowing stream. Perhaps this is the view outside of her study. Even the sides of this piece are stunning, with minutely detailed patterning, ... moreintertwining botanicals, and graceful flowers, all highlighted by outstanding raised gilt detail. The shoulder of the vase is further adorned with ornate patterning set off in radiant moriage work, giving three dimensional elegance. Very rare, painterly coloration. The work of a master artisan. The overall form and design are absolutely magnificent. Subtle variations in the texture of the raised gold change beautifully in the light. A gorgeous piece, in excellent antique condition, we note a very small indentation on the foot which does not affect the beauty of the piece(see second to last photo) A very fine representation of the mastery of Edo/ Meiji period Satsuma ware, circa 1860. This superb vase measures approximately 7 1/8" tall and 4 1/2" wide. An important example of the finest quality Japanese aesthetic found on Shogun era ceramics. Would make a wonderful addition for the connoisseur of world class Japanese antiques. SEE 12 PHOTOS ABOVE LEFT. This fine vase is one of a pair. Beautiful Japanese Satsuma powder/pin box. Peacock w/open tail design!! Marked.
AUCTION DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful little antique round Satsuma pin/powder box with the lid. It is very nice. It is the peacock with open tail in gold and gold trimmed. It measures 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and is marked"SATSUMA. JAPAN" AND I CAN'T READ THE REST BECAUSE IT IS IN JAPANESE. It has one little bubble on the top of the lid(see picture closely) that looks like happened in firing. Thanks for looking at my auctions and thanks for all the help you have given me with your bids and purchases. God Bless! PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: These items were purchased at an auction. All I know is that I was told they were old and collectible dolls and the names and description of each doll as given to me at the auction. I bought them to have a doll collection and intended to display them. But have to sell them now to keep my home so, I thought someone might be looking for one for their collection and would like to have it. They may be of great value or worth nothing. I do not know. They are just sweet old vintage dolls for a doll collector to display. I am not a doll expert and am totally ignorant of the benefits or the problems of these dolls, except what is obvious. I have no idea of the flaws they may have except as I said was obvious or how that affects the value. Therefore, look at the pictures and determine for yourself if you want it. What you see is what you get, because I am sure you kno
ANTIQUE SATSUMA JAPAN BIZAN TAISHO BOWL FLOWER BIRDS BLUEBIRD SIGNED SHIMAZU MON
Description: This auction is for a very fine antique Satsuma Japan. Porcelain bowl, with exquisite art decor, featuring very colorful scenes of chrysanthemums, other flowers, bluebirds, flowing water. It is marked on the bottom with the gold Shimazu mon mark above a two character signature below that, within a red square. I believe this is the Bizan mark or very close to it, which should date it to the Taisho period of 1912-1926 or possibly later. Satsuma is known for it's fine crackled glaze& earthenware body, which does not ring when tapped. This is a very fine representation of such artwork. The bowl measures approximately 6 inches across the rim. 2 3/8 inches tall. The bowl is in good condition; no chips. Cracks or repairs. Please read the description.
