Antique Decorated Ovoid Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Mottled Folk Pottery old
This time we have an early piece of decorated redware pottery in very good. Well-preserved condition. Dating to the middle 19th Century, this lead glazed pitcher has beautiful coloring that was achieved through the use of oxides. It's primarilly green inside and out with mustard and orange colored mottling all over. On the interior, the green turns to mustard at the bottom third of the piece where the surface is worn from use. On the exterior, an area that varies from 3/4 inch to 2 inches from the bottom wasn't glazed, nor was the underside. The original red clay surface was left exposed and an old, grungy patina resulted from past use and the passage of time. Carved into the bottom are the initials"A.S. In addition, this old piece has whimsical, white-yellow floral decorations on opposite sides, adding even more folksy charm. ... moreThe exterior glaze shows wear and tear. Mostly surface scratches from coming in contact with other items. Also, there are a pair of contact marks where it was touching other pieces while being fired. As mentioned earlier, the interior has some loss of glaze but the clay surface is not eroded. Glaze was also worn off on the opening rim and the edges of the handle. There are only a couple of old chips on the rim, none elsewhere. While writing this description we noticed a 2 1/2" line in the back, under the handle, that looks like a very tight hairline. It doesn't appear to go all the way through to the interior and can't be felt when running a finger or fingernail across it. While we like to fully disclose all flaws to the best of our ability, these are really just indicators of heavy use and are helpful in authentication. Redware pottery was used for common, everyday purposes; it was not considered anything special. Surviving examples are often found with significant damage so this early pitcher was well cared for throughout its history. Heavier than it looks, this piece is solid, rugged, and structurally sound. This is 2 3/4" small cup or tumbler hand written mark on bottom. MERRITT ISLAND POTTERY. It is hand thrown and has pronounced ring pattern. The glaze is a thin white slip over the red clay. Lot ancient Roman terra sigillata redware decorated shards ceramic artifacts
Roman pottery shards found at Vechten(The Netherlands) Some information about Fectio(Vechten) Fectio. Modern Vechten, was a fort in the limes, the frontier zone of the Roman empire, situated at the site of the bifurcation of the rivers Rhine(which continued to the North Sea) and Vecht(to Lake Flevo and the Frisians) Numismatic evidence suggests that it was founded by the Roman general Tiberius(the future emperor) during the campaigns of 4/5. It was probably used as a military base during punitive raids. The civil settlement of Fectio was probably to the east of the fort. But excavation is not easy because there is a nineteenth-century military settlement on the site(Fort Vechten) However, the ancient fort itself is, together with Nijmegen, Vechten is one of the best excavated sites in the Netherlands; in 1894, it was the site of one of the ... morefirst excavations of a Roman ship. In 40. The emperor Caligula visited Fectio when he was travelling to Lugdunum. The remains of a wine barrel from his personal vinyard have been found. Some thirty years later, the fortress was destroyed during the Batavian revolt and rebuilt as base of a cavalry squadron. The nearby Rhine had already started to silt up, and was later to change its course. Pottery from the kilns of the Tweny-second legion Primigenia at Xanten belongs to this period. During the reign of Antoninus Pius(138-161) the fort was again rebuilt. This time from brick and natural stone. However, by 200, the river had become silted-up and Fectio was no longer accessible by water. The military settlement was destroyed in 275 and not reoccupied. See also my other items. Here's an Interesting Antique Redware Vessel with Embossed and Manganese Decoration. Offered at NO RESERVE! I'm not sure what this is, but my best guess is a spittoon. As you can see, there is a hole in the well in the middle of the top, and another hole at the side(with cork) It came from a very old home in Brooklyn, NY, and was well hidden in the basement for quite some time. I know there were stoneware makers in that area and would assume one of them produced it. My best guess as far as age is mid 1800s. There are a lot of chips, flaking, hairlines and such, but the integrity of the piece is still well intact. There appears to be a dark dripping stain which you can see a portion of in the 5th photo, but I attempted no cleaning. The measurements are approximately 7 and 3/4" wide by about 3" height. WELCOME. UP FOR BID IS A PRIMITIVE LOOKING ORANGE GLAZED STONEWARE JAR/CANISTER. THIS ONE HAS ME A BIT CONFUSED. THE HOUSE I SAVED THIS FROM WAS BEING UNLOADED INTO A LOCAL DUMPSTER. THE OWNER WAS AN ELDERLY PAINTER AND THE HOME WAS LOADED WITH OLD ITEMS. I AM WONDERING IF HE USED SOME ORANGE PAINT TO PAINT THIS PIECE.= AS I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS AN OLDER PIECE OF POTTERY LIKE THIS. IT STANDS 5-1/2" TALL AND HAS A DIAMETER OF 4-7/8" THERE IS OBVIOUS SIGNS OF GLAZE WEAR(LITTLE HOLES) WHICH CAN DATE THE PIECE. THE LID INTERIOR IS A 2 TONED BROWN GRAY COLOR. AND THE INTERIOR OF THE JAR IS A 2 TONED BROWN GRAY GLAZE FINNISH. ANY INFORMATION ON THIS PIECE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I special-ordered this pot from Betty Lou back in 2002 and she had it made just for me. It is wood-fired with soft chocolate brush strokes and is signed by the artist Christy Woods and dated 2002. I have had this in my collection for 11 years and it is in perfect condition; truly one-of-a-kind! It would be a great addition to any collector of Turtlecreek Pottery. I have 2 wonderful vintage Mexican/ Mexico Redware bowls. Spectacular example of detailed Art Pottery from the Tlaquepaque region of Mexico from the 1930s- 40s. Each bowl measures 3" tall and has a 4 1/2" diameter. Each has a different yet similar blue floral motif in blue and cream. Blue dots around rim of one and cream dots on the other. Bothe have a raised star sun type pattern around both the base and rim. This pair is absolutely beautiful! As is common with redware pieces, they are fragile and prone to flaking, nicks and shaping irregularities. This Bowl does show the expected faint flakes(primarily on the rim) ~ very few considering it's age and purpose. No cracks ... moreor breaks were found. Pre-Columbian - Chupicuaro redware tripod rattle bowl
A Chupicuaro. Redware, tripod, rattle bowl with a very interesting black decorative pattern inside and out. The interior includes geometric patterns and lines, and a zoomorphic condor or mythical bird within a fiery circle in the center of the interior. This circle is mirrored on the inside of and overlapping the top of the rim. The exterior and interior have two black lines around the center with a weave pattern in the interior between the uppermost line and the rim. All three legs are also decorated. The bowl has a rounded bottom and curved sides with a slightly flared rim, and the ovoid legs are hollow and contain rattles. In excellent condition, although visible flaking has occurred, with mineral deposits normal for its age and only a very few minor nicks. Original condition, not restored. Estimated age of 300 BCE- 300 CE. Approx. 6” ... morediameter x 3 1/8” high with the bowl about 2 ½” deep.Provenance- This item was recently purchased from the estate of the late Willis Pratt, a career academic at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Pratt owned a residence in Guanajuato and frequently visited Central Mexico between the mid 1930’s and mid 1960’s. During this period he amassed a fine collection of many pre-Columbian artifacts which he kept and displayed in his home in Austin. Guaranteed authentic.

Old English Staffordshire Ware Plate: Provincetown, MA Souvenir Redware Plate
Here for your collecting pleasure we offer a noble Old English Staffordshire Ware souvenir plate in beautiful redware. Produced and distributed by the Adams company of England and Jonroth of England. These were made for and imported by Patrick's of Provincetown, Massachusetts. The plate is in excellent condition for its age and measures about 7 11/16" in diameter. The plate is new-old and has not been used. It is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, breaks, fleabites, or other damage that I can find anywhere. The plate does bear the fine crackelure characteristic of these plate; this is not considered a flaw but a desirable feature and without this distinguishing characteristic, the plate would be a suspected copy. The design is rendered in red on a soft cream background; the red is deeper/darker on the actual than the photographs ... moreshow- it appears that the lighting used during the photographing process has washed out the red colour somewhat. The design is of four views of Provincetown: the Highland Light, the Pilgrim Memorial Monument, the end of Cape Cod, and the pilgrims' first washing day. At the center of the plate is prnted, Souvenir of Provincetown. The plate is marked on the reverse'Old English Staffordshire Ware, Staffordshire, England, Imported for Patrick's, Provincetown, Mass. together with the Adams, Established 1657, England and the Queen's crown, and the Jonroth England logo, crowned with the King's crown as authorized purveyor of wares to the royal family. This gorgeous piece has been packed away in storage since I purchased it in 1992 on a trip to the Cape. Up for sale is this set of 3 antique folk art pottery bowls that I got at an estate sale. They are hand made and hand painted with birds on the bottom inside. The rims are painted black. And they have a white band going around the diameter. Two of the bowls have chips to the foot ring with one also having a stress fracture. One is in good condition with no chips or cracks. They do have some wear to the glaze on the inside because these were stacked onto of one another. They are dark brown but the camera flash make them appear light brown. Measures 6 3/8" diameter x 2 1/4" high. See photos.

Great piece of antique Redware jug, pitcher Lion with wings Crested marked Paris
This is a fantastic estate find on a lovely Sunday drive in the dead of winter. This is one of the nicest pieces of redware that I have seen in a long time. The man that I got it from said it has been his grandmothers and he was in his 70s. The jug or pitcher has 3 handles. A spot with what looks like a rope around it. The decoration is wounderful with a lion with wings and a creast on the front. The bottom is marked but hard to make out but I could read paris 10-72 09 or 07 and a word I can't make out. There are no cracks or repaires and I only found two very small chips in the glaze. This piece is 8in tall and 7in across from handle to handle.

TORQUAY MOTTO WARE ENGLAND CUP & SAUCER ~ ENGLISH COTTAGE REDWARE
The offering is for a Motto Ware Cup and Saucer. The cup measures 3 1/4 inches high and 3 5/8 inches diameter. Saucer is 6 inches diameter. It is marked on the bottom but I cannot make out what it says. The saying on it says" MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES. Under the cottage it says CHEDDAR. There are no chips. Cracks or flea bites.

Mid-Century vtg RED FLAME PITCHER BOWL Blue Mountain Pine Pottery Redware Canada
For your consideration is a stunning set of redware pottery pieces likely made in Canada in the 1950s or 1960s by Blue Mountain. Pine, or similar. They are heavy red clay with a gorgeous black red and orange reflow glaze. The design on the scalloped bowl interior resembles flames. Pitcher base fits into base of bowl for a perfect set. Both pitcher and bowl are in lovely condition with no chips cracks or damages, unsigned on bases. Jug stands 7.5" tall by 3.5" wide at mouth and 6" wide including 3" tall handle and spout. Scalloped bowl measures 3" tall and 7.5" wide. These will be shipped by expedited parcel post, which includes tracking and insurances. Be sure to have a look at my other auctions!

Antique Glazed Handpainted Redware Pitcher Commerative Wedding Gift 1935 VGC
Beautiful black glossy glazed redware pitcher decorated with gold edging on rim. Base and handle and also beautiful handpainted swags and flowers along the top. One side is beautifully painted with this decoration on the other is a commeration to Mr. Mrs C. W. Brown 1935. I don't know the occasion but it might have been an anniversary gift. It stands 6 1/4 inches tall and has a diameter opening of 4 inches. Would look lovely on a shelf, dining table or as a vase. In lovely condition, no cracks or chips.
