This unfinished quilt has a large X shape. And we have no idea why. Maybe you quilters out there know why this shape could be advantageous somehow while making a 6-point star quilt, but we are no quilters and we have no clue at all. At any rate. These stars are the one that are put together, some of them at least, in such a way that they look as 3"tumbling blocks" when looked at in a certain"mind set" We made several close-ups of just the star so this effect is more"visible" Below you'll find information regarding the sewing on the seams. The size of the stars, etc. The X shape measured widest across and widest length is 65" across. 83" length. The narrowest points of the X(across the center of the X) is just 51" tall by 32" wide, in the way the quilt top is displayed on the bed. As she pieces her patchwork coverlet; She tells them her story of London Town. And shows them the scraps of her bridal gown; Each fragment there is a printed page. With mem'ries written'twixt youth& age. From the old song Patchwork This quilt is so unique. The pattern name is"True Lover's Knot" ~ passed down through 3 generations of the Embury family orignally from Larchmont. New York. We are unsure of which family member made the quilt but we were able to trace it back to two of it's owners where it finally came to be in Lakewood, Ohio. David Augustus Embury born in Pine Woods, New York(November 3, 1886- July 6, 1960) ... morewe believe, was one of the first to own the quilt. He was a tax attorney for the Manhatten based law firm Curtis. Mallet-Prevost, Colt& Mosle. The next info is quite interesting. He possessed an insatiable curiosity about the whys and wherefores of many things and particularly of food and drinks. Embury was passionate about quality cocktail’s and used that passion to write a book called(1948) A classic encyclopedia of the 20th century cocktail. His daughter Ruth"Penny" Embury(I'm still trying to locate a married name for her) was a prominet surgeon in Cleveland, Ohio, who lived on Lake Erie in Lakewood, Ohio. She still lives at the age of 90 years, in a local nursing home. She was also a sailor in a World Cup race too! A wonderful two-color quilt. Red& light beige, is a larger quilt measuring 102" x 84" The person that made this quilt used fabric that date as early as the 1940's but her batting is from the turn of the century. It's thin& has remanants of cotton seeds contained it it. We are unsure of which family member made the quilt but we were able to trace it back to two of it's owners where it finally came to be in Lakewood, Ohio. David Augustus Embury born in Pine Woods, New York(November 3, 1886- July 6, 1960) we believe, was one of the first to own the quilt. He was a tax attorney for the Manhatten based law firm Curtis. Mallet-Prevost, Colt& Mosle. The next info is quite interesting. He possessed an insatiable curiosity about the whys and wherefores ... moreof many things and particularly of food and drinks. Embury was passionate about quality cocktail’s and used that passion to write a book called(1948) A classic encyclopedia of the 20th century cocktail. His daughter Ruth"Penny" Embury(I'm still trying to locate a married name for her) was a prominet surgeon in Cleveland, Ohio, who lived on Lake Erie in Lakewood, Ohio. She still lives at the age of 90 years, in a local nursing home. She was also a sailor in a World Cup race too! A wonderful two-color quilt made in a dark green. Black& yellow calico print, expertly appliqued to a light off-white backing ~ 100% cotton& in pristine condition with no rips, tears, holes or stains. It's a good-sized quilt measuring 99" x 80" Four different"sampler" designs make up the all over design; they almost remind me of the old hex signs you used to see on old barns out in the country ~ all are in the same sunburst pattern with the same oak leaf in the corners. The centers are different. Each block is separated by an appliqued scalloped sashing. Even the border is applied this way! You can barely find the quilter's applique stitch. The quilting

It measures a generous 78" X 88" and is in mint. Unwashed condition, with a couple of tiny, faint age spots(hard to find) and no wear. The quilting is SUPERB. With close diamond, heart wreath, and cable designs quilted throughout at an even 10-12 stitches to the inch. The back is white. The hand stitched binding is the same golden yellow used in the background, and the batting is thin. High quality solid cotton materials were used throughout. This beautiful handmade quilt was made between 1920's and 1930's. I cannot narrow the date down any further. But I know was made before 1940. I have looked over this quilt several times and can only find one loose area shown in photo#6. This quilt is very clean to be as old as it is, see Photo 11 for the only stain I could find. ANTIQUE RARE MARINER'S COMPASS STAR QUILT TRIDENTS & ELABORATE TRIANGLE BORDER
Looking for a special gift for a boat lover or seafarer? This is a rare 1940's quilt in a mariners compass pattern. I love that the maker put 4 trident pattern appliques near the corners of the quilt. A sure tribute to Neptune, the God of the sea. And note that the main quilting pattern is of course scallops! Everything about this quilt is the minutia of detail. The hand pieced center compass pattern is a complex series of starburst rays generating out from the small center circle. Each ray alternates rose pink/ cotton candy pink. It also has 2 flashy and complex borders of double triangles of pink and pale pink cotton. Spaced just enough so the white cotton in between forms a zigzag pattern.The borders are beautifully executed, everything on this quilt is precise including all the tin points of the compass. The hand quilting is tiny ... moreand even 10spi. Every piece of the center ray and the tridents are hand quilted along the interior then highlighted with a double quilted circle around the exterior of the trident applique. The center compass actually has 6 circular rings quilted outside of it. The remainder of the quilt is hand quilted in a scallop pattern. The quilt has a pencil thin pink binding that is hand closed on the backside. Batting is thin cotton. Backing is white cotton. The quilt is snowy white. Free of wear, clean and crisp although there is one small spot just outside the border as shown. I have not laundered the quilt but to me it feels like it has been laundered at some point in its years. Measures a roomy 76" x 86" Just an elaborate quilt that you won't find too often.

This listing features a lovely vintage handsewn cotton quilt top in a bow tie pattern and primitive color palette. I believe it dates back to at least the 1930's if not before judging from the fabric used. It is in wonderful condition with the fabrics being crisp and bright. Measurements are 72 x 78 inches. Please note auction is for the quilt top only- it needs to have batting and a back attached. The workmanship is. In my opinion, superior. Cutting and handsewn seams are straight and accurate as shown in the last photo. There are a very few(less than four) spots that I saw in examining it. Please ask questions. This stained glass panel is a quilt pattern sampler with different textures of clear glass in a geometric abstract pattern. The panel is approximately 21 1/4 x 12 1/4. There are 4- 2 x 2 bevels in the panel. The panel can be hung in either vertical or horizontal direction. The patina on the solder is black and the zinc frame is left in the silver tone. AFRICAN AMERICAN QUILT TOP VINTAGE 1950s 9 PATCH SCRAP IMPROVISATIONAL ANTIQUE HERE WE HAVE AN ORIGINAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN QUILT TOP Very well designed primitive scrappy 9-patch with some of the small squares pieced with multiple tiny cotton fabric that is well matched for color and print pattern. The 9-patch blocks are separated by predominantly blue and pink strips. The quilter used both hand piecing and machine piecing in the quilt top. This is an excellent example of a"Make-Do" creation made from little to no resources available in the home. The fabrics are made from typical fabrices from the 1940-1950's that would include shirtings. Dresses, calicos, feed sacks, sugar sacks and scrap cottons left over from sewing clothes. 3 Quilt frame clamps plus one that is a little smaller
3 matching quilt frame clamps plus one that is a little smaller. The 3 clamp from 1 1/4" to 2 1/2" and the smaller one clamps from 1" to 2 1/4" The thumb screw is a slightly different design than the other three.

4 Quilt frame clamps -2 are 0 - 2 2/4" and 2 are 1 1/4" to 2 3/4"
4 matching quilt frame clamps except 2 of the thumb screws were shortened. Not sure why. Someone removed the end caps and cut 1 1/4" off the screw then replaced the caps. The screws must have been in the way when they rolled the quilt up on the frame.
