This pretty vintage cotton novelty flour feedsack features a grouping of red. Green and yellow teepees and a scallop design on the bottom third of the feedsack. The feedsack is in excellent condition with no damage or stains. It hasn't been opened yet. It measures 23 1/4" across one side. If it were opened, it would measure 46 1/2" The length is 38" The sack has a nice tight weave and is a light to medium weight cotton- perfect for quilting and other sewing projects. This pretty vintage cotton flour feedsack features a medium blue background and bunches of red and pink flowers on green and white stems. The sack is a light to medium weight cotton with nice bright colors- perfect for quilting and other projects. It is in very good condition for the most part. There are some areas where the blue is lighter. This may be slight fading or original to the dying- I'm not sure. There are also some black lines in an area that is approximately 11" A couple of little snags and a 1/2" x 1/4" frayed area that is not a hole. Overall, the color is good and the flowers are bright. There are silks& brocades, acetates, cotton sateens, 100% cotton fabrics, chintz& more. all crazy in circles done freehand, pieced using yellow& pink embroidery floss in a Threaded Herringbone stitch. It measures 80" x 66" I've taken pictures of each block so that you can see that some of the blocks are just fine& that others have worn pieces within. For auction is this Beautiful antique Birds in the Air pattern quilt top that is both hand and machine pieced. Very sturdy measuring 65" x 84 1/2" with each block measuring 9" x 9" Each triangle has been hand stitched together. And the blocks have been pieced together by machine. This top is in excellent condition all but one age stain that can be cleaned out using oxi-clean or other cleaner appropriate for antique linens. And one small tear that can be re-stitched. Top is made from bright pretty cotton fabrics of calico, gingham, feedsack and novelty print. Very pretty pieces of old floral feed sack fabrics. This is one length of fabric, 3 2/3 yards x 24" to the selvage edges. Both selvage edges are there. This is unused, from an early local estate. Found in a trunk and well cared for. The fabric is unused, but has some variations in the color. In bright light you can see streaks of lighter and darker blue. Not sure if it is the way it was dyed, or it is faded. There are no light streaks on the folds or edges, like sun damage.The fabric is stromg. This is a dark navy blue. CONDITION: Good unused condition. Color varies as described above. Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt with Pretty Pink Border
1920's-1930's Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt with a pink border and backing. The dedicated quilter that created this quilt took the time to fussy cut each floral fabric hexagon that surrounds the coordinating solid center hexagons. Each flower is beautifully formed and placed with hexagons that measure only 3/4" on each side. This quilt measures 81" x 89" It is densely quilted with 10-12 stitches per inch counting one side only. This quilt is in very nice condition. I do not see any wear. Spots, or damage. I do not think it has ever been used. The only issue I see is that the batting does not extend all the way to the binding. It is a few inches short of reaching the edge. 2 Antique Quilt patchwork blocks 1813 homespun historical interest re slavery
You are bidding on a pair of fascinating and rare early quilt blocks. I do not know what this pattern is called- hopefully some collector will write and tell me so that I can improve the listing. UPDATE: A very kind collector wrote and told me that this pattern is called"Grandmother's Flower Garden" and that it is one of the earliest types of pieced pattern. Thank you! Each block measures approximately 12 x 18 inches. And is made of a combination of homespun and commercial fabrics. The cloth is dyed with natural dyes and you can see the same pattern repeated in different ways in the two blocks. The blocks are backed with newspaper and with pages from a ledger of some sort. Judging by the newspaper dates. I'm going with 1813 as a probable date for the creating of these pieces. I've included a close-up of one of the newspaper ... morepieces, which apparently is an advertisement for a slave auction. Gave me the chills when I realized what I was looking at. I also can see several references to Richmond in the newspapers. The blocks may have originated in Virginia. My great-grandmother was an antique dealer in the Pacific Northwest for many decades. Her family were Cherokee and she came out West from Tallequah. Her husband's family came to the U.S. from Ireland via New Orleans. These could have come from an estate she handled. Or they may have been carried west by her people or by his people when they migrated. The blocks were in a trunk of her things, and that's as much as I know about the provenance. The blocks have some staining. Which I have attempted to capture in the photographs. Please look at all the pictures carefully. These will be shipped to you wrapped in acid-free paper and carefully rolled around a big cardboard shipping tube. Then placed inside another shipping tube. I recommend seeing a conservator about the best way to preserve and display them. This is a real piece of American history. I am hoping they find the right home. Beautiful quilt. It has been cut down about 40 years ago because the edges were ripped to shreds. It was re-bound using old fabric and well done. Size: 67" x 64" Still a good size. It's been used as a wall hanging in the past. But in a blanket chest for the last 15 or so years. There are two spots where the red is wearing, which is common in old red fabric and what may be blood stains on the white on the front, but does not go through to the back(see photos) Beautifully done.

A really beautiful old boudoir treasure in the softest of rose pink hues. This large quilt is completely hand stitched and hand quilted and is filled with traditional woollen batting making it warm and tactile. The top carries a delicieux printed cotton that has a soft rose pink background with the design in pinks. Greens, eau de nil, raspberry and deep mauve- all very easy on the eye. The design carries flower bouquets and little cluster posies of flowers that look like raspberries! The flowers are interspersed with branches. Vines and leaves. The reverse side is now a warm old tea buff. It may have had a design originally but it is long gone. The ... morequilting is worked within outer rectangular fine borders with the inner stitching in diamonds. The top textile is in wonderful condition with just a little wear around the edges commensurate with age and use- it certainly does not detract. Antique 1880 Patchwork Country Quilt Description: Here is a cozy country quilt. The bubble gum pink wide border and back contrast beautifully with the neutral tone patches. It is hand pieced and quilted with outline and feather quilting along the border. The stitches are close and consistent. 6 stitches to the inch. The hand stitched binding is rolled over from the back and the batting is thin. 100% cotton. Condition: It is in good condition. There are 2 patches showing fabric loss with a small hole. This quilt was originally made in Kentucky prior to the Civil War around 1860. It was passed down to the grandson of the original quilt maker who is now very old in his 80's. Antique Quilt Purchased From Store Once Owned By Niece Of "Devil Anse" Hatfield
This antique quilt. Although obviously with flaws, has a very interesting story behind it. It was purchased in Meador, West Virginia during a pick of the Historic General Store that was once owned by the niece of"Devil Anse" Anderson Hatfield, of the infamous Hatfield and McCoy feud. The quilt was found in the rear part of the stairs that led to the upstairs bedroom where Devil Anse would sleep when he needed to hide out from the Posse of"Bad Frank" Phillips. I am not the one who originally purchased this quilt. But I did purchase it from the people who actually made the find during a pick of the Historic General Store. This is the same store that was featured on the tv show"Hatfield and McCoy White Lightning" and on the American Pickers"Feud Pick" just before the movie was made. I. Nor the owners that ... moreI purchased the quilt from, can positively claim that"Devil Anse" actually slept under this quilt, but there is a possibility that he did. The historic value of this item is untold, and the quilt is obviously of an era that could validate that some of the feuding Hatfields have actually touched this quilt! Please see all pictures. 1930 Handstitched Sunbonnet Sue Quilt
Beautiful hand stitched quilt made by my great grandmother Hattie Riddle. It was made using my grandmother's baby and toddler dresses and was a gift for my her 9th birthday. Which means this was made prior to 1930. It was given to me in 1980 and I have had it in storage for 34 years. I had it cleaned three years ago by a woman who does restoration and cleaning of antique quilts. This is an antique quilt. So it does show age, but it is in outstanding condition. Minor aging spots can be seen, no rips or tears, just normal aging of the material. I have no daughter to leave this too and by the time I get a granddaughter, well. I just recently moved to the desert and I am afraid it won't last that long down here, so it is time to sell it and let it be appreciated by someone in a more favorable climate. Beautiful quilt with a known history.
