This is a listing for a vintage sterling silver bracelet made in Taxco. Mexico. It is hallmarked with sterling, Taxco and 925 in a circle with the artist's initials ATA in the center. It is also stamped with an eagle 3 hallmark which dates the piece to pre 1979. It's in excellent condition with no damage and a warm patina. The inside wearable circumference is approximately 7.25 inches. It has a face width of 7/8th of an inch and it weighs a very substantial 72 grams. It closes with a tongue and box clasp that shuts with a solid click and remains securely closed. There is also a security chain attached. The design is pre-Columbian with a deeply engraved and pierced design of a bird. The incising has been oxidized for contrast and strong definition. The story of these astonishing 3 artifacts began off of the coast of Peru near the town of Chimbote sometime between 1000 A.D. and 1500 A.D. They are believed to have belonged to a woman from the Chimu Civilization. As they have strong similarities to other Chimu textiles. The Chimu Civilization was the largest civilization to thrive in Peru. Just before the Inca came to power around 1500 A.D. Just as today. Life near Chimbote, called the great City of Chan Chan in the Chimu period, revolved around the sea and trade goods. Fine textiles were prized as status symbols of wealth and power. And traded for goods found only in the interior regions of Peru. Women who excelled at the art of weaving lived in better housing within the City of Chan Chan. And were provided with the best food and care. They made tunics. Loin cloths, and carry bags for ... morethe politicians and elite, and for trade to bring in the best goods for the elite. Other women weavers lived outside of the City. And made clothing and bags for the general population. The woman's tomb containing these artifacts was uncovered deep in the sand near Chimbote in the early 1960's. This ancient woman was discovered with her backstrap loom. And still on the loom was the unfinished textile she was buried with, to finish in the after-life. Her burial shawl was wrapped around her head. Face and upper body. The part of the shawl here is the top piece that covered her face and hair. The smallest textile artifact is believed to be the remnants of a shoulder strap to a purse that carried her necessities to the afterlife. The tight weave of these textiles is astounding. And the strap has a pattern of long woven rows with deliberate small gaps woven between them. It's fascinating. A technician aboard the famous hospital ship HOPE was skilled at carpentry. And made the lucite and wood cases for these artifacts, and mounted the loom within its case. Being a people of the sea. The Chimu designs often depict fish, pelicans, and sea otters. It was in an old glass case with an old typed attribution tag that reads, Copper Necklace Pre-Columbian- Huastecan from Camecuapo lake in S.E. Mexico near Yucatan It features 14 beads. Each with their own eyelets on each side, attached with small rings of copper(one of those are missing and it is attached with some modern copper wiring. a hanging pendant with an open bottom and squigle designs on the top. The clasp is a bent bar of copper. We estimate that the typed tag was done somewhere in the 1930's or 40's. We did confirm that copper was used by the Huasteca people. With copper necklaces being used by"poor" people. We believe this is pre-Columbian, but being as it came out of an estate(what a find! with no provenance, we are listing it in the Reproductions category to be safe. Could be Costa Rican. Guatemalan, or Peruvian. Do not think it is primitive, but it is folk art. 12-hole Ocarina is red clay ceramic, hand made and decorated/ carved/ painted. Depending on how you turn the Ocarina, its aspect changes. It is a toucan, a pig, a demon, a stealth bomber. Sort of. Seriously rare and peculiarly lovely. Great Collectable.

Pre-Columbian Mexican Small Bowl Reproduction with Birds
Here is a small bowl I picked up at an estate sale and was told it was"Pre-Columbian from Mexico" I do believe it is a replica. Measures 4 3/4" top opening diameter with a 2 1/4" base diameter and stands 2 1/4" high. Two nice birds flying around a center flower with fancy curlycue foliage. Dark brown drawings on light brown bowl. When I wet the bowl the water bubbled so there is a light glaze. No odor. Weighs about 7 ounces. Cool looking piece. I have no idea how old it is. Up for sale is a wonderful old likeness of Mayan King Pacal. I purchased it from a dealer at an antique market who got it from an estate. He said that the people who previously owned it traveled extensively and that it was old, but he did not have any additional information or exact age for this piece. It measures about 4 inches high and he said it is metal, bronze or copper. The inside is hollowed out and you can see some brown dirt like residue near the inside top(see image) It is darkened with some green verdigris and a little white crustation. PRE COLUMBIAN DOUBLE FACE POT Costa Rica origin
This wonderful little pot is 4" high. 2.5" across the top and aprox. 4" wide. My father collected several items like this when he lived in central America in the 1960's, it has been stored away for 30 years since his death. He said it was from Costa Rica and that you could tell because of the"coffee bean" eyes. It is in very good condition with only a few dings and roughness around the top. As you can see from the photos that there are 2 faces, one on each side of the pot. The card of info my father wrote about the pot says it is from 1200 A.D.
