PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT JAMACOAQUE This is a very expressive piece of authentic Pre Columbian pottery with a very realistic face almost ... moreGrecian looking. Very heavily lidded eyes in a peaceful expression. The figure is wearing a headdress that is more like a cap over the hair with decorative earrings that have deep notches with some remaining red paint. Hopefully these are not the ears. It looks like button earrings in front and the figure has a nose ring and a lip plug. The back shows the remains of part of a necklace. It measures 2 1/2 inches high and will stand upright by itself as the circular base with a hole in it is flat. The head is hollow and has evidence of heavy black mineral deposits on one side. Basic clay color is a gray beige. There are also traces of red paint on the face. Keep in mind that this is not a burnished surface and the texture is rough and the close up photos are to show condition. At a regular viewing distance the head seems more normal looking and the condition is very good with very little damage and no repairs. It is from a private collection and is Jamacoaque culture.

GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Pre-columbian necklace with figurine
Believed to be Mayan the figurine was separated from necklace for aesthetic reasons leaving a beautiful. Wearable green columbian agate bead and 14kt gold bead necklace. The figurine weighs 31gr for a gold value of around $900. It can be easily restrung back with necklace if desired and is included so as to not separate the pieces. Each of the hand-made agate beads is different in color and shape due to the natural stone but still have a soft feel to the touch. This would make a beautiful Christmas gift.

Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, Copador Bowl, circa 600 to 900 CE
14.00 14.00 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Description: Copador Bowl. Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, ca. 600 to 900 CE. Hand built bowl is rich for its iconography painted in deep red and brown slip on a cream ground. The interior features a large JAL sign also known as a mat sign referring to all woven materials- finely woven textiles, plaited hair, twists of rope, in addition to the reed mat which was the symbol or royalty. Surrounding the JAL glyph is a procession of birds- possibly turkeys as these were domesticated by the Mayans- with worms hanging from their beaks. Birds were associated with Mayan lords and shaman as well as with the deity figures associated with leaders of local tribes. Bird ornamentals were an integral part of the headdresses worn by Mayan lords as these winged creatures played a significant role ... morein mystical and ceremonial life of these ancients. On the exterior of the bowl is a series of six seated figures bending forward and presenting their large red hands in a pantomime-like gesture that suggests they are making an offering to a supernatural entity. At the same time the abstract, elongated hand gestures may be narrative signals specifying interaction among individuals. In spite of extensive studies of pose and gesture in Maya art, scholars offer conflicting conclusions and the true meanings of these formalized gestures remain a challenge. 9"D x 3 3/4"T Provenance: Ex-Santa Monica Gallery A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany piece.
Antique PRE-COLUMBIAN Central/So.American Carved GREEN &Red STONE 2-Faced FIGURE
This comes from a regular consignor. A long-time antique collector/dealer. He describes it as Pre-Colombian; I expect the experts out there can narrow it down by inspecting my detailed pix. It is an interesting piece[ one seated figure appears to be holding a basin or vessel which in turn bears another face on its front. I'm sure there is a better description/explanation than that. But. It is carved in mottled green stone with rust red veins& splotches running through it. Figure measures 4" H x 3-1/4" D x 1-5/8" W; weighs 1 lb. before packaging) Please check out! Wikipedia- Anasazi pottery is a form of Pre-Columbian American pottery that is widely studied and treasured by collectors and enthusiasts. The Anasazi are the best known of the ancient Pueblo peoples or ancestral Pueblo peoples whose culture centered on the present-day Four Corners area of the United States. Comprising ... moresouthern Utah, northeastern Arizona, northern New Mexico, and southwestern Colorado. They lived in a range of structures, including pit houses, pueblos, and cliff dwellings designed so that they could lift entry ladders during enemy attacks, which provided security. The word Anaasází is Navajo for"Ancient Ones" or"Ancient Enemy" Archaeologists still debate when this distinct culture emerged. The current consensus, based on terminology defined by the Pecos Classification. Suggests their emergence around the 12th century BCE, during the archaeologically designated Early Basketmaker II Era. Beginning with the earliest explorations and excavations, researchers wrote that the Ancient Puebloans are ancestors of contemporary Pueblo peoples. Pre Columbian Fine Maya Plumbate Old Fire God Jar Orange Olive Slip 7-3/4" x 6"
This auction features what I believe is a fine maya Plumbate old fire god jar. In excellent condition in my opinion. The exceptional depiction shows the Old Fire God having thick, bushy eyebrows, sagging bags under the eyes, recessed cheek bones and wrinkles around the nose and cheek area. The deity's chin juts forward and his mouth is open exposing only two teeth. He has small earholes and a wrinkled forehead with a small medallion at its center. The beautiful rendering is done with a plumbate slip achieving a cloudy olive to beige tone. The bottle is in excellent, intact condition with only a few ancient surface nicks. The plumbate surface is, arguably, a glaze that the Maya created with a high lead content. The color variety ranges from brilliant orange to peachy and olive green to dark brown, all depending on additives and firing temperatures. ... moreThe technique created highly durable wares much stronger than all other Pre-Columbian pottery or ceramics. I acquired this piece from an estate in the Palm Springs area, and I believe at one point it was used by Interior Designer Jeffery Jurasky& Associates, who placed the effigy jar in an award winning home in Mission Hills Country Club designed by Holden and Johnson Architects. Please examine all photos carefully and email me with any questions that you might have before bidding to ensure you complete satisfaction on this item. Good luck and happy bidding.
