Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine and beautiful Pre-Columbian annular footed bowl. From the Tuza ... moreCulture of the Narino highlands of Colombia. It has a simple rust-colored slip-decorated interior. The design is laid out in four quadrants, with two pyramidal grid or"net" areas and two figural motifs on opposing sides. To many Amerindian groups, the net motif referred to the Milky Way, which was metaphorically described as the net in which stars were caught and concentrated. As suggested by the large implement of office and the planetary head surround, the figure probably represents a shaman or other person of spiritual importance. The bowl measures 7 inches in diameter by 3 inches in height(17.7 cm by 7.62 cm) It shows wear consistent with a dating to the Tuza culture(1250-1500 A.D. including rubbing, tiny cracks, small chips, paint splatter and magnesium staining. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Pre-Columbian Mexican Sitting Figural Vessel Nayarit Culture. 250 BC- 200 AD ~ please scroll down for more photos ~ Pre-Columbian terra cotta figural ... morevessel from Western Mexico. Nayarit Culture. 250 BC to 200 AD. SIZE: Height- 8.25" 12 cm) Width- 4.5" 11.5 cm) Depth- 3.5" 9 cm) An anthropomorphic male sitting figure. Leaning forward with his left hand holding an object in, or up to his mouth. His right hand is on his right knee. The figure has foreshortened legs, long curving arms of unequal length, a flattened face with a proportionate nose and coffee bean eyes. He is wearing multiple ear spools. This figure's head. Body, and legs are hollow and there is a large round opening at the top of his head, making the piece into a vessel as well as a figure. The figure's hair is cut into bangs across the forehead and the details of the hair were inscribed into the clay before firing. The neckline also has dimension and is raised up from the body. Depicting the figure to be wearing clothing. The surface of the figure is of the red burnished- polished clay and there are remnants of white and possibly black slip pigments painted on the face. There may have been yellowish designs on the chest. As well, but if so they hardly visible now. The surface shows dark dimensional manganese deposits in many areas. And some light encrustations of dirt and other substances in the crevices. This piece is between 1.800 and 2,250 years old. It was collected during the 1940's and was obtained from an old San Francisco collection. Condition: This piece is in good excavated condition with no losses. The following is noted: A tight. Stable, very thin hairline extending from the front of the figure's throat, over his right shoulder, to the back of his neck. It appears that there is a very old repair where the upper left part of the head has been glued back after a separation. A line showing this runs under his left eye, up the forehead and hair and down the back of his head and over the left ear(please see photos

Pre-columbian Bead Lot Mayan Inca Aztec Peru Bird Human Effigies Gold ? Turquois
A very interesting collection of beads brought from Peru by a missionary in the early 1950's. I am not sure what age or time period they would be from. The stone beads appear to be from several different materials. The large ones are possibly turquoise or jade. The gold beads and effigies are of stamped metal. It's possible they have some gold content or are gold washed. As they show little signs of tarnish. I counted well over 300 beads total. The strand measures about 15" long. The face effigy measures 0.95" by 1.36" Please view our other auctions being listed over the next few days. We will be dispersing many artifacts from several recent collection acquisitions. Mayan Sculpture: the Maya created a great number of sculptures. Many of which can be seen at Maya sites and museums. A common form of Maya sculpture was the stele. These were large stone slabs covered with carvings. Many depict the rulers of the cities they were located in, and others show gods. The stelae almost always contained hieroglyphs, which have been critical to determining the significance and history of Maya sites. Other stone carvings include figurines, similar to the earthenware ones described earlier, and stone lintels which show scenes of blood sacrifice. The Maya used a great deal of jade in their art. Many stone carvings had jade inlays, and there were also ritual objects created from jade. It is remarkable that the Maya, who had no metal tools, created such intricate and beautiful objects from jade, a very hard and dense material. MEASURES 5" TALL AND 3" WIDE. Substantial piece. Ancient Peruvian CHANCAY Dolls in Boat made w 1000 YR OLD PRE-COLUMBIAN Cloth
3 Peruvian Chancay dolls in a chalupa(boat) ~ measures 8" long The dolls are made of authentic pre-Columbian handwoven cloth that dates at 1000 ad or earlier. These bits of cloth are remnants of burial cloth found around the ancient grave sites in Peru. Where scraps of cloth have been found scattered on the ground, survivors of decades of tomb looting and climate exposure. Similar dolls have actually been found in the tombs(now in museums) ~ this piece is of modern construction made of all ancient cloth, made by native Peruvians for tourist trade. Dolls are permanently seated in the chalupa. Their arms appear to be twigs that are wrapped with thread. The chalupa boat itself and the dolls' heads are semi-rigid and probably have some type of fiber inside as well as cloth. Each doll has an embroidered face, gauze cloth hair, and a patterned ... moregarment. The gauze cloth forms a wonderful and very realistic fishing net that hangs across the back of the boat! The cloth fibers are in amazingly supple condition for their age ~ although delicate they are flexible and not brittle so can be gently handled. There are many types of weaves in this little piece from the tight burlap-type weave of the faces to the loose lacey gauze weaves(see pics) Very interesting and displays beautifully although will need support as it does not stand upright independently. Each and every Chancay doll is unique of course ~ they are becoming rather hard-to-find even in Peru due to the rapidly declining availability of authentic ancient cloth scraps. In excellent antique condition with no evident damage or odors. From my smoke-free home. Please email if you need more pictures or have questions. Will be carefully packaged and promptly sent ~ thanks for taking a look!
