GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Dated 8/9/2011 This Red Colima Tripod was almost certainly part of the burial contents of a“shaft tomb” that was constructed in Western Mexico during the Late Preclassic and Early Classic Eras(150-500 AD) Although called shaft tombs. Several experts now describe them more as simple pits that were dug into the ground about 2 meters deep. This vessel. Like many others form this early period, is based upon gourd model. It is theorized that these vessels were part of a shamanic ritual and would hold food for the departed soul’s use as he/she traveled to the afterlife. eBay Note According to information I received. Large 10" Celt/Adze/Hoe - Pre-Columbian - Very Nice!
Large 10" Celt/Adze/Hoe- Pre-Columbian- Very Nice! Up for bids are several lots of Pre-Columbian Artifacts and Fossils from my Father-In-Law's personal collection. He collected his entire life which ended 3 years ago. It has taken me a long time to prepare these items for auction. Please be advised that I am selling most of these items AS IS because realistically there are no records on provenance or authenticity on 99% of them. You will notice stickers and markings on some of these items as well. I don't know what kind of record keeping system he used- we have yet to find a detailed list and probably never will. The items he found in the field he marked personally so you can probably take that to the bank. He was a true Rennaisance man and some of these items are really special. Enjoy. Panama - 5 Pre-Columbian Neolithic Celts, Knives/Scrapers from Upper Chagres Rvr
Pre-Columbian Neolithic Celts. Knives and Scrapers from Central Panama This item is a set of Pre-Columbian Neolithic Celts. Knives and scrapers from the Madden Lake region of Central Panama. All five of these artifacts are surface finds from the shore of Madden Lake when it is at its lowest level at the end of the dry season. These artifacts were found by George Chevalier who lived on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal Zone. George hunted for artifacts only in the American jurisdiction of the former Panama Canal Zone. All 5 of these artifacts have identification marks indicating the approximate location of the surface finds. All 5 have the letters" C. Z. M. L. which identify the artifacts as" Canal Zone Madden Lake" Three of the artifacts have the letter" S" with a circle to indicate that these three were all found ... moreat the same location. Two of the artifacts have the letters" R C S" to show that these were found in the same location. There are two celts in this collection. The smaller celt is made out of a layered sedimentary rock or a weathered metamorphic form of volcanic Basalt. This celt has a rough surface texture. One end is ground on both sides to a sharp cutting edge. The second celt was made out of a hard and smooth metamorphic Basalt. One end was ground and polished to a smooth and sharp cutting edge on both sides. Both of these celts are more primitive than most celts found in this region. There are also three lithic tools that can be used as either knives or scrapers. One was made out of Chert or Flint. The second was made out of Quartz or Quartzite. The third was made out of a dark colored. Very hard stone, possibly Basalt. The latter has a very sharp edge, almost like a celt but without the crowning. George Chevalier lived on the Pacific side of the former Panama Canal Zone until he retired and moved to the USA. He was on the same Balboa High School swimming team as my father. George used to hunt for artifacts along the Las Cruces Trail and on the shore of Madden

Lg Pre-Columbian Pottery Fragment & Unknown Bowl w/ Rat or Mice Motif + Figurine
Here for your consideration is a mixed lot of Pre-Columbian and unknown period pottery. This lot is from a nice collection of authentic pre-Columbian artifacts. I know for certain that the large broken pottery fragment in this lot is pre-Columbian. But I have my doubts about the rat bowl and sitting figurine. The bowl is completely hand made and beautiful, but the condition of the surface seems to be too good. There is dirt in the creases along the rats and looks soiled within, but you'll have to be the judge on this piece. Seems raku fired. The figurine appears to have been possible in the process of restoration? It's a cool little piece, but I do not know the age and cannot guarantee when it was made, so you'll have to be the judge on it too. If you'd like to share your opinions on these two interesting pieces, I like to ... morehear them. The man that amassed the collection that these were a part of, had a thing for authenticity, so I don't think these would have been in his collection if they weren't of some importance. This lot being sold as is as described, no returns. Low opening bid no reserve.

Post Pre Columbian Spanish Colonial brass stirrup Peru artifact relic 1875 AD
This unusual lovely brass stirrup was made in Peru during the Post Inca period Spanish Colonial rule. It is a heavy item and it still has a bright sheen with some tarnish and minor scratches left from age. It was not likely warn on a regular basis as it would be heavy. More than likely it is a ceremonial piece for display or used during a parade or inspection of a local troops when they were dressed up. It may have been an officer’s piece. Not likely a heavy brass piece would be carried through the Andes highlands. Notice the bar on top for the leather strap. Interesting is the décor on the side of the stirrup of an Incan figure head. The stirrup bottom is flat with a triangular hole in it. You can see the colorfully dressed uniformed Spanish troops in their colorful array. Horses and all, on a parade ground or a brass stirrup as a ceremonial ... moreitem or gift. Really nice artifact and one usually overlooked as it was a post Inca period Colonial rule item. It does show the influence of the Inca artistic culture on the stirrup. Ca: 1850 AD Hand embossed with metal work. A great piece to shine up a room as décor and bring conversation about olden times in the Spanish conquest of the Peruvian people. Please look at pictures and contact me with questions before bidding Provenance: purchased from an antiquities/antique dealer.
