Was a collector, former museum curator and lecturer on Asian art at the University of British Columbia, Canada. 7 Beautiful Kangxi Mark Porcelain Chinese Dishes With Bird and Rice Grain Design
Set of 7 Porcelain Dishes This is a set of 7 porcelain dishes with a blue. Red, and green pattern and a rice inlay design. The edges are gilt, as are various outlines in the design. Each features a blue bird in the middle. These are in mostly good condition. With a few minor chips and scratches. The gilt is rubbing off along the edges. Each dish measures 5 inches in diameter. On the bottom of these pieces the Qing dynasty reign mark is written as Kangxi in Chinese. I do not know the history of these pieces. Aside from that they were found at the same location where I found photos of what appeared to be a woman missionary/teacher in the 1940s? at a Chinese church/school. I do not know if these pieces are authentic to Kangxi period or if they are a later date. The experts would know more! The blue enamel appears to be under the glaze. And the other colors appear to be painted on top. The other colors appear to be slightly raised. On 4 of the pieces. On the other 3, it appears they were set in a puddle of glaze and sand. 4 appear to be by one artist. 3 appear to be by another(differences in the base calligraphy, design, and base finish)

Please read my notes about the piece carefully. Thanks: Description: A Chinese blue and white porcelain vase. With body adorned with an extensive landscape with buildings, figures and mountains. Base and neck decorated with bands of stylized floral patterns. Double ring under the base. On the base we can find a seal/mark which is from the Qing Dinasty Kangxi Period 1662-1722(Kang xi nian Zhi) This correspond end of XVII Century, begining of the XVIII Century. Bibliography: the porcelain seal/mark that we found in the base. Is reproduced in the book: The New& Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics" by Gerald Davison. Upon request of the future buyer I can send a copy of this page. Size: 23 cm. Defects: the piece suffered a lot of restaurations. NICE ASIAN BLUE WHITE VASE ~ KANGXI REIGN MARK ~ MOD AS LAMP BASE ~ 19th 20th C?
IT'S MY ANNUAL NEW YEAR'S CLEAN-OUT-THE-ATTIC SALE! PLEASE EXCUSE CAMERA GLARE. I'm trying to clear things out before the attic falls in from the weight of all my"finds. This is a pretty piece. HISTORY of the mark: Kangxi reign mark(Chinese emperor between 1662-1722) Kangxi decided that with the hundreds of thousands of ceramics being made with his name on them. And likely hundreds being broken each day, it was not good luck to have his name on them, so he forbade the placing of his name on them. Thus his mark is relatively rare, but has been reproduced in the 19th& 20th centuries, and that's probably when this piece was produced. At some point it has been modified into a lamp base, probably quite a while ago. It's roughly 9 inches tall. The base bottom is about 3.25 inches in diameter. The diameter of the vase ... moreopening is just under 1.75 inches. Looks wonderful standing alone- or use as a vase or make a unique lamp! No chips, cracks or crazing. There is only the small round hole for the electric cord to come thru if you want to make a lamp, plus the smooth indented place on the bottom where the cord can come out and the vase/lamp will sit flat- the typical thing on most lamps. The piece I think dates from the Daoguang period(1820-1850) period. But bears a pictoral mark used from the Kangxi period. It shows five red and gold bats all around its body and a very nicely painted central dragon medallion inside the bowl. It has a nice blue enamel meandering border on the inside of the bowl.
