Up for bid is an original WW2 Japanese Type 32 Army NCO sword in excellent condition. Its sharpened 30 and 11/16 inch blade is marked 12663 on its side and a character on the other side. Blade maintains its bright finish and has some dark patina spots. Blade is straight and handle is tight on the blade with no play or movement. Handle guard is marked with a Tokyo Arsenal mark and two characters. Handle steel maintains 60% of its blued finish and has oxidation spots. Handle scabbard attachment hook functions well. Checkered wood grip has no cracks and has some minor flaking(see photos below) Scabbard drag is marked 127116. Scabbard has fived dents. Maintains 60% of its blued finish and has dark patina spots. Wear and patina. There is about a 1" chip at one end of the handle, not too distracting, and the brass wire wrap is loose/unravelled. The original scabbard is in excellent condition with maybe only one or two very minor dings. Very good to near excellent"as found" condition overall as noted. This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed"Minamoto Moritaka with Kao 源盛高. 花押" dated"Showa Kanoto-mi Go-gatsu hi(a day May 1943) 昭和辛巳五月日" shinogi-zukuri shape WWll time period made blade. Moritaka's real name is Moritaka Yoshio. Was born in 1908 in Kumamoto prefecture, made swords during WWll time period and after the war as a gendai sword smith, listed in John Slough's book page 117, 118 and rated 2 Million yen High-grade Gendaito smith. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old full polish, no rust, no scratch, no stain and in excellent condition. The temper line is wavy Gunome with choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep ko-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend. No nicks, no crack and ... morecutting edge is very sharp. The blade is mounted in army mountings, scabbard is wood scabbard with hanger ring, no lacquer loss, no crack and leather cover is not presented. Japanese WW 2 Katana Samurai Sword with a wooden scabbord. Blade measures 21.5 in. long and overall length is 29.75 in. long. The handle has two stars on it with a tan.Red and green braid. The braid shows signs of wear and discoloration. The blade has some pitting.Rust spots and wear but is straight. The guard has a description of leaves on it and shows signs of wear. The blade is sharp all the way down so I think it is hand made but I have very little knowledge of these swords. From an estate. No reserve. This is a Japanese sword in honzukuri mountings. This Gunto is guessed use in Kamikaze corps or the tank corps. The blade is signed"Soshu Jyu Hiromitsu 相州住広光" Shinogi-zukuri shape, early Muromachi period ca. 1339 era made Hiromasa school blade.I am guessed three generation Hiromasa. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface. The temper line is Gunome with choji temper pattern and maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows no dent, no crack and in excellent condition. The handle wrap is old wrapping. Tight fit with gold inlay copper fuchi and kashira with matched gold inlay copper bird menukis. The tsuba is signed"Kunihiro 国広” Shikakugata shape iron tsuba. DESCRIPTION: Japanese samurai sword part of koshirae- KOGAI(hair arranger) It is probably from the late EDO period(1850-1867) K ogai was used by samurai as a hair arranger. It was fitted in the saya pocket opposite of the kozuka on some wakizashi's and tanto's. It is made out of shakudo(copper gold alloy) and has NANAKO background. It shows some wear but otherwise in good condition. The theme of this kogai is a KIRIN following PHOENIX in the air. KIRIN was together with PHOENIX and DRAGON one of 3 most common mythical creatures in feudal Japan. For auction is this 16th century Koto wakizashi in shirasaya. The blade is in mint fresh japanese polish with very sharp edge and crisp lines. Bright surface. There is a few tiny kizu due to age. Nothing bad or serious, in pretty good condition for sure. The hamon is especialy nice on thsi blade. The activities are clearly visible, very nice pattern. The tip is sharp looking and healthy with nice boshi with deep turning back. The tang shows deep patination. No signature, 2 holes. The blade is housed in good double copper habaki and shirasaya.
