Vintage Ottoman Islamic FATURAN red cherry amber with swirls full prayer beads. Full Imame +33 beads Weight: 97 grams Size of bead is 13.0 x 18.1 mm Length of the imame: 36.9 mm Great condition. What is Faturan? The exact composition of this material was and remains unknown. And the mystery surrounding it contributes to the legend created and to the appreciation of this material among collectors. It is believed that among the ingredients there are powdered kahraman. Mastic resin, frankincense, turpentine, natural dyes, such as wine, and phenol resin, a component of bakelite. Faturan was a very common material for prayer and worry beads mainly in Egypt. Turkey and Greece. Its production stopped in 1940, due to World War II and the original formula has not been reproduced ever since.

Just how old I don't know but I'd say it dates to be tween about 1890 and 1940. A very attractive piece- beautifully engraved and well patinated. Moroccan Islamic Dagger Jambiya Koummya Knife with Scabbard - Authentic
Up for auction is an antique. 19th Century Moroccan Dagger with a curved blade and scabbard. I've also seen it called just a 19th Century Moroccan Knife. By the Moroccan's it was called Jambiya Koummya. Total length is approximately 17" Blade is approximately 9" Blade appears to be made of steel. It looks like it was hand-cast. The wooden grip is white metal on the front and brass on the back. Handle had a peacock's tail pommel. The scabbard is brass with an overlay of white metal. Possibly silver and two large suspension rings. On a nitric acid test the white colored metal appeared to test positive for silver. These tests are not 100% accurate. And so there's no guarantee that it's really silver. And if it is, I can't say how much is on there-it appears to just be covering one side and it doesn't go ... moreall the way through the scabbard. But, if the Moroccan's were making these knives with silver sheaths, then this looks to be one of them. Again, no guarantee on the silver. If I had another way to test it I would. But all I have is the acid test. I've found no distinguishing marks on this piece. It was purchased at an estate auction from a world traveler's collection of edged weapons. There is a lot of information on these knives online. Please research before bidding and bid with confidence.

They were made to be dust-cum-decoration covers for that then very precious item. The television set. I made up two short skirts from them but they did not quite work. I am not a dressmaker and made them badly. I have now unpicked them and washed them. The embroidery is all hand done and very fine. Each piece has scalloped sides. Each piece measures approx. 90cm x 71cm(35 inches x 28 in. The condition is excellent. They have not really been used.
