George Nelson Designer CSS 3 Bay Wall Unit 1960's Produced By Herman Miller
We have a three bay COMPREHENSIVE STORAGE SYSTEM unit for sale. This well equipped CSS unit has five standard flat 12 inch teak shelves. Two 14 1/8" inch deep teak shelves, two slanted magazine shelves, two sliding blue door cabinets, one record divider-file cabinet, and one five drawer teak cabinet with the Herman Miller logo seen on top of the drawer pulls. It also has a small teak file unit, not attached. see photo) There are two black lights that are attached on each end. We are not sure if they are original to the piece but they are functional. Also included are some original CSS shelf hardware clips and connectors and a round foot piece. This CSS unit was designed by George Nelson and manufactured by Herman Miller. It measures 93 1/2" tall.and 97 1/4" wide. This mid century era CSS unit looks very nice overall and shows ... morenormal wear in a few places. There is some normal wear evident on the blue doors in places from past use. There is a small dime size chip in the teak veneer evident on the back top corner of the shelf cabinet with the cubby holes. The two 14 1/8" shelves were custom made from CSS shelving to allow for deeper vintage stereo components. The wall anchors are fastened properly to the vertical poles but the hardware used appears to be non CSS hardware but is fully functional and secure. We note a single hole down low on the front of one vertical pole and there are a few random holes on each pole down low on the back side of each vertical pole done by a previous owner. This is a very nice complete CSS set larger than you often see. This unit would look great in a Danish modern living room. This item is available for local pick up OR we are willing to deliver in a 200 mile radius from Seattle for $100. OR top bidder if out of state must arrange shipping and pickup of this item. This is a rare earliest edition original Howard Miller/George Nelson design wooden atomic ball clock. Dates from early 50's. It has a beautiful unique rare silver/greenish color on the wooden balls& clock face. It has the original hour& minute hands- not sure if it had a second hand but there is not one. It is very rare clock with an even more rarity of direct plug-in wall unit. Looks so beautiful& clean on a wall without a cord hanging down. I believe it is one of the earliest made. Has no numbers stamped on it. It works like a charm- had it plugged in for a week& kept perfect time. It comes from an early 1900's estate in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. It does have condition issues due to it's age and usage. It features the museum red dot with the red second hand on a chrome or silver colored face with Howard Miller emblem and has a concave shaped glass front. It works fine and keeps good time. I have not cleaned the brass and will leave this up to the new owner. For sale is this VINTAGE. BLACK and WHITE ILLUSTRATED, CLOTH-BOUND, 1ST EDITION HARDCOVER VOLUME of"TOMORROW'S HOUSE. by GEORGE NELSON and HENRY WRIGHT(considered to be one of the BIBLES of EARLY PIECES of LITERATURE about MODERNIST DESIGN. PUBLISHED DURING WWII, by SIMON and SCHUSTER, NEW YORK, C.1945. The hardcover volume measures 11 1/2" in height x 8 1/2" in width. It's in very good overall condition. With only a slight 3/4" tear on the lower left corner of the front jacket that doesn't go all the way through the width of the cover. It hasn't been taped and no effort has been made to fix it, since it doesn't interfere with viewing the book. The putty-colored cloth covering with crimson red font on the cover, displays its age, being slightly discolored and with a small, darker stain the size of a ... morepeanut. The pages are in very good shape, with all pages present and the black and white illustrations being clear and crisp. The interior of this volume as well as the exterior cloth cover, do not suffer from mildew or water damage. The book is in good/very good vintage condition and only 3-4 page corners have been turned slightly on the extremity of their lower corners. They have been re-flattened and pressed. If you want to have an early, very important Modernist volume in your library, that really introduces Modernist decor and Modernist architectural design to the American audience, readying them for the post-war experience, then you should have"Tomorrow's House" in your collection. The photos are outstanding and profuse. You'll identify many Modernist masters works of furniture design and remark. Wow, I didn't know those chairs were that early! This book was published in 1945, during the Second World War and there is even a disclaimer on the inside sleeve, suggesting that the quality of the paper used, is in accordance"with the appearance of books during wartime. I continue to sell a huge lifetime collection(hundreds) of antique and vintage Lake George. NY and Adirondack Mountains souvenirs and memorabilia, some of which date back to the mid-to-late 1800’s. The collection grew from an original"find" in the attic of my circa 1880 Lake George camp. All are in very good condition. Up for auction is an original EXTREMELY RARE hard covered forty-eight page book with map and eleven oil-color views drawn from photographs. Each covered with tissue paper to protect them for posterity. Folks. Understand what you are looking at: this is one of the earliest(if not earliest) comprehensive and detailed Tourist Guides produced. It predates the classics: Lake George by DeCosta, 1868; Adventures in the Wilderness by Murray 1869; Lake George by D&H Canal Co. 1880; Seneca Ray Stoddard's guides, 1870s ... moreand beyond. It is generally accepted that Murray's book is what generated a wave of interest in tourism and camp life in the Adirondacks and generated an influx of tourists that hasn't abated to this day. Soooo. It can be said that Nelson's Guide was the seed from which similar writings were marketed subsequent thereto. Look closely at the Table of Contents and you will see the areas of attention to which he set his pen. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE found only in museum research rooms. Excellent condition for its age. Rare Vintage George Nelson Howard Miller Chiming Lucite Grandfather Wall Clock
When I walked into the kitchen at the estate sale and saw this piece hanging on the wall my jaw dropped. Pictures do not really do this work of art justice. George Nelson and Howard Miller produced iconic clocks during the mid century period and this is certainly the"granddaddy" of them all. This is a 145 hour weight and pendulum clock that chimes on the half hour and hour. The clear Lucite that shows the works would have been modern enough but Nelson added the mirrored back to reflect them. The effect is the ultimate is mid century modernism. This clock was running and keeping time when I took it off the wall. It is in pristine condition as it hung there for 50 to 60 years. Of course every consideration and precaution will be taken when packing to ship. Wonderful DANISH MODERN styled. Pole Lamp. The globes alone are sometimes found online as"George Nelsons" and I have seen bids for $175.00+ per globe. They are very nicely designed with ribbed china like touch and they give off a wonderful suttle light, the switch will turn one one, then 2, then all three, which gives off a much nicer, warmer, light than any over head fixture, that I have ever experienced. This is currently in an eight foot floor to ceiling, which most likely is the max ceiling height plus a few inches. The oval is the most classic and pleasing form which always casts a soft, even light- retains original Howard Miller label. This light is made of a self-webbing plastic that was incorporated by Nelson from military use. It measures approximately 23" wide and 12" long; it comes attached to a heavy white cord measuring approximately 5 feet lamp is in working order. Please be sure to note the mellow color of the shade. Both lit and unlit and the fine"ribbing" on the shade which is so beautifully accented when the lit. The warm simplicity of this light would certainly be the focal point of and/or enhance your vintage or contemporary ... moredecor. For your consideration is this George Nelson design sofa for Herman Miller. It is their Steel Frame line and this one features a 3 cushion design with an attached end table. It measures just shy of 8' long overall and 28" tall at the back. It is 26" deep overall with a seat height of about 16" The attached white laminate table measures 24x24" While I have no doubt the sofa is as described. It would appear that this one is unsigned. It does show an identifying mark from Northern Illinois University. It is a strikingly modern design that is long and low, very much in keeping with the mid-century aesthetic. It remains in very nice as found condition with only a smudge or two on the back and a small area of minor wear to the back of one corner. Nothing that detracts. The Office of George Nelson(design director of Herman Miller) did the logo and packaging for many of the products for CREATIVE PLAYTHINGS. This packaging shows some influence of the Eames Office. Charles and Ray Eames were very passionate about the use of period graphics. I'm not an expert. But please take a look, the pictures tell the story, this appears to be complete in every way. Vintage, Walnut Herman Miller, George Nelson Designed 2 Pedestal Executive Office Desk and was most likely built between 1958 and 1963. The desk is from the Herman Miller Company’s Executive Office Group 8000 Series and is model 8865. The left pedestal has two drawers, an upper storage drawer and a lower file drawer. The right side is a 3-drawer pedestal. The"floating" walnut veneer desktop measures 84 inches long and 36 inches wide, 1-1/4 inch thick, and has a height of 29.5 inches. The attached privacy screen is in excellent condition. The desk is marked on two of the drawer handles with the Herman Miller name and logo, and has ... morelabels inside of two drawers that designate it as a George Nelson design. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and can be locked. There are 3 keys for the 2 locks. There are some small scratches, drill holes, tiny areas of veneer loss, an area of white paint, and areas of light fading. Holes were drilled into the top front of each pedestal to install plastic brackets to hold electric cords and two holes were drilled into the bottom of each pedestal. Overall this Herman Miller/George Nelson walnut desk is in very good vintage condition. See Photos) This desk easily disassembles for transport. The top can be removed with 6 bolts and the two pedestals are attached to the modesty screen with a few screws. According to the 1961 Herman Miller product brochure the 84 x 36 x 1-1/4 inch desk top is the largest available and weighs 110 pounds. This item is for pick-up only.
