19th century American folk art ship model carving ca 1880-1900. The work has a beautifully carved ship figure head of an eagle with beaded eyes. The ship is carved and inlayed with hardwoods and retains its original surface. The back of the ship has as a gilt copper eagle banner. The work was once covered in a glass enclosing. It can be taken out and put in a new enclosing or the platform it is in now can be brought back and a glass added. The ship is in good shape considering it has been exposed since it lost its glass. It is very detailed work that took a lot of skill to create originally. The ship itself measures 12"H x 10"H x 2 1/2"D and is being sold in as found condition. Found in PA. New England record cabinet folk art hand-painted cranberry with hanging cab
New England. Old record or Victrola cabinet, refurbished by the local folk artist K Cullbert(see her signature) with brick red paint and a cranberry motif on the front panel. Approx 44" H, 21" W, 16" deep. I boned it up with a turnbuckle underneath, but it needs a magnet latch to close. Key does not come out: it's epoxied in place. Back upper corner is separated a little. You can fix it or live with it. Some cutouts in back. We used it to hold a stereo and receiver(remember those? Cabinet is not antique, just old and perked up. Comes with a small hanging wall cabinet(bought new from an unfinished furniture store) with pegs, matching colors and cranberry motif. 12" H, 23" W, 6.5" deep. With each square making a unique contribution to this complicated and richly decorated extravaganza. There is so much to delight the eye here, from a variety of birds including a blue bird upon a branch, to exquisite flowers, and even musical instruments including a velvet harp, and violin with bow, and a row of delicately embroidered musical notes. This is a UNIQUE. Hard-To-Find, ANTIQUE, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand Crafted" Hand Carved Mahogany Wood Carving African Folk Art Wooden Hunting Game Food Knife& Sheath Scabbard Set" handmade in Ghana. Africa in the early-1900s. My friend's grandfather was a British doctor who spent the years 1901-1902 providing medical care in Ghana; this WONDERFUL Knife& Sheath was given to him by a patient. Upon his return to England. He displayed it inside a glass cabinet with other African objects from his travels and when he moved to the United States in 1922, it came along with him. Displayed through the early-1960s. It was p acked away and forgotten about until it was recently rediscovered; it has been safely and securely stored for over 50 years. It is in EXCELLENT Condition with NO marks. Stains, odors, chips, cracks or other ... moredamage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. Both GORGEOUS pieces are Hand Carved from a single piece of wood. The Simple yet SHARP Wood Knife has a height of approximately 11 inches and measures approximately 1 1/2 inches wide across the blade; it is NOT Marked or Signed. I dont know anything about this box. It appears to be quite old and handmade. The glass panel on the front is on a hinge that does open. Metal is not marked Sterling. But it at least appears to be silver plated. I cannot be for certain as I have no way to teach. There is come mark marks on the back of casing, and a bit of glue on the top center above the photo. Original, the purest and truest of all molas ever created were the geometrics ones and a must for any serious collection, harder and harder to locate today because most were created from the 1940’s to the 1970’s, they are abstract masterpieces of hand stitched applique. We pride ourselves in collecting direct, from village to village of the San Blas Islands, only the most outstanding, detailed, handmade and colorful panels we can find and the most traditional and oldest ones as well which are getting harder and harder to find. Folk Art rawhide laced wooden saddle tree/ book shelf from South of the Border. Down Mexico way. This is the best one I have owned. And the best one I have seen of this type that is not silver embellished. It appears to be in unused condition. And never fitted with leather for a saddle. It is very interestingly constructed by using wooden pegs and rawhide lacing's to hold it together. This suggests that it is an early piece. And dates to the late 19th century; not only because ... moreof the construction method, but also due to the dark aged patina overall. This piece is in 100% original and complete untouched patina that collectors love to see. Note that at the base of the horn where it meets the frame, there is only one wedge fitted in this 90 degree angle. The one side has a wedge with a wooden peg affixing it to the frame. The other side does not have this wedge, nor is there an indication that there was ever a hole for the wooden peg. Thus, it was made this way; perhaps uncompleted, perhaps intended that way. In any case, it is completely original. There are 2 iron nails that along with the rawhide lacing, help hold the top of the saddle back on, that appear to be hand made. Perfect as a book rack, Western, Western Americana, Cowboy, Vaquero, Old West, Horseman, Horse Trapping, Equestrian, saddle, saddle tree display; or as a decorating/ Folk Art conversation piece; or use as a book stand, placing the corner of the books in the middle channel.
