And have been treasured by several owners.  Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage. Damage/Repair, worn patina. Cracks, Bamana wood Door Lock. Mali, African. Additional Information: A wooden door lock attributed to the Bamana. This example has some age and the surface shows the piece was extensively used. Bamana door locks are composed of two parts: one is a fixed vertical element which is most often carved with abstract. Human or animal form fixed to the door with iron staples. The second part of the door lock is a horizontal wooden piece that slides through the vertical piece where iron teeth would fall into small holes locking the door. The doors had pointed corners that served as hinges and a sculpted wooden lock to keep it closed. A small key would lift the iron pegs to open the door. The sliding locking bar passed just behind the vertical part. The face on this door lock is carved in a Bamana style and recalls Bamana figures identified as representations of an ancestor, which presence is required to ensure protection and prevent the intrusion of bad spirits and sorcerers. Nice Vintage Brass Hanging Open Closed Sign Fireplace Damper or Door Handle? I had an opportunity to go down state Illinois recently for the homecoming of my Alma Mater and shopped the wonderful sales. Barn sales and antique shops along the way. I have a huge variety of oldees for you this week- from 19th century primitives to 1950s kitsch- there’s something for everyone! I'm not quite sure if this one was made to use as a business/store hanging sign- like on the door handle. Or if it was a fireplace damper sign- but what the heck, I can think of lots of uses for it in many ways- like the bathroom door, especially if you have teenagers! It's a brass relief sign that reads OPEN on one side and CLOSED on the other. The sign measures 3 5/8" by 2" tall, but is 6 1/2" tall in total if you measure from the top of the hanging ... morechain(when hanging) to the bottom of the sign. It's pretty hefty at the sign, weighing just over 1/4 lb. The hanging chain is not brass- it's either steele or tin with a brass finish, and it shows wear to the finish where you can see the grey color of the metal, especially on the two larger loops that attach to the sign. The sign is in excellent solid, sturdy and ready to use condition. It has minor scratching to the brass, but that's it. Ready to go to work for you! Please ask if you have any questions. The bearing assemblies we sell on ebay go thru the front of the tract and the wooden stops go at the very rear of the tract(up against the back of the unit) to act as the door stop. The size of our stops are identica to one another and are specific to each tract or size unit(D.C,G,H and 41 inch units) We have all sizes on hand. The finish looks like new wood but can be aged with a little walnut stain if you like. Original stops are on the left in the first photo for comparison. They come with 4 attaching correct brads but there were several styles of those used and we include one of the more common styles. The stop is important to prevent over opening of the door when pushing back the door and causing damage to the rear panel. Scissors assemblies as it holds the rear of the tract in place for smooth operation of the door. Without the stops the doors jams as it moves backwards, as the tracts tend to expand outward towards the rear if not fixed down. The pieces are precision cut and perfectly dimensional formed. But we're cleaning out the shop and need to let some things go. This is one piece with 4 wheels. It could use a little degreaser and a little oil and be good as new. But the wheels turn just fine. The wheels are about 2 1/4" wide and have a 57 stamped on them. Overall it is about 7 5/8" long and about 4 3/4" top to bottom. The wheel"tread" is about 3/8" wide. Very nice display advertising model for"Big 4" roller barn door hinges. Nice store display or can be used for any architectural project. Big 4" National Mfg. Co. Sterling. Ill. Hinges and hardware have never been used, only for display. Some spots of rust on some of the metal, I have lots of pictures so you can check that out. There is a logo in the center of each hinge that is stamped with the Big 4 and the pat. date, which is April 24, 1906 and the mfg. name. Hinges slide on the 27 inch track, shows how nicely they work. The two door rollers are-3.75 inches, work great. The washburne latch is missing. The wood frame is in nice condition and gives a nice presentation. Hardware can be easily removed and is ready to use for any project, if your not interested in a display model. This is a pair of Richards Wilcox barn door hanger/rollers coming from a farm contents sale and recently repainted using gloss black rust paint. These hangers came off the same door but differ in total length by about 1/2" One steel strap was more pitted than the other. And one pin has been replaced. It is hard to notice the differences. The wheels are about 2 1/2" diameter by about 1 1/8" wide and turn easily, showing little of the side-to-side"slop" expected in hardware of this age. One wheel has a 1/2" chunk out of its collar which does not seem to affect its operation. See my photo to observe the inner roller bearings.
